  1. Alright everybody! I've somewhat fallen off the wagon with this for now. Will be striving to start anew as of Monday though! Life really threw me a curve ball and I'm currently very stressed because of it. My goals: 1. Work out 3 times a week. 2. Quit smoking and soda 3. Have some me time, 1 min/week of the challenge meditation every day or 5 pages read/week of the challenge each day. Everyone's goals are looking good so far. Enjoy your camping and good luck everyone.
  2. Well, I only own enough weight plates to get to 40kg (including the bar) so going higher than that for a while isn't an option. Unfortunately sh*t has truly hit the fan here... so I'm not sure how well I'll be able to keep up with this, I'll be doing my utmost...
  3. Too right! Workout and relaxation when I get in from work, followed by finishing off my shaving post! Busy man! Hope you're all doing good! I'll be making sure later! Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
  4. Glad I've been of some use! We all want to see your new rack! That sounded so much less dirty in my head...
  5. Day 2 Today is going pretty good so far, though it’s not even 1pm yet. Got minor DOMS in my legs from yesterday so a little stretching wouldn’t go amiss I think. Already don’t my 1min of meditation, I get the impression I’m going to be doing that more often than reading… My stumbling block with the Smoke Dragon has always been about the second or third day when it’s all out my system, meaning that right now I’m really jonesing for a cigarette. But the thought of having to openly admit that I’ve failed on day 2… that’s embarrassing enough that I won’t back out now! So far as fighting the Sugar Demon, all is well! Just drinking lots of water.
  6. Oh dear! That reminds me of being a silly student and playing that with a 3l bottle of Strongbow! I kinda want to try it also... but I'm not sure that I could jog for the length of the song, let alone throw in burpees!
  7. Day 1: So today is day one of the challenge, things are mostly going to plan. Just finished my workout and now it’s time to go walk a mile with the dog. But first I’ll give a few stats so I’ve got a record of my starting point. Height: 5ft9 (this really shouldn’t change should it?) Weight: 58kg And don’t worry, no topless photos of a skinny engineer! Today’s workout was pretty straightforward, nothing particularly special. My training partner seemed particularly enthralled in the whole thing though! Squat: 5x5 at 30kg Bench: 5x5 at 30kg Ok… this isn’t quite on a bench, it’s on the arm of the couch but that’s close enough right? Row: 5x5 at 30kg I’ll be tracking this on a popular workout tracking website if anyone wants to follow that directly wing me a PM and I’ll link you, otherwise if you know what site I’m talking about my username is the same there as it is here. As far as the other goals go… I’ll be getting my 5 pages read as soon as I get back in from my walk! The last of the smokes are gone so time to kick it up a notch and not buy any more! Bring it!
  8. Seems I’ve done this whole thing a little Bass Ackward by starting a challenge thread before this but oh well, here’s a little intro and some background: Who the heck are you? How rude! Anyway, I’ll answer you this time… I’m a 24 year old electrical engineering graduate. Can’t say that I’ve ever been overweight, in fact quite the opposite mostly since I’m about 5ft9 and 128lb. Some would say that’s a blessing, I’ve always seen it more as a curse. Pretty much always been a massive nerd, was one of those guys who managed to soar through High School pretty much without a hitch (ok one small one) but got picked on and beaten up throughout its entirety. I got to about 16 and decided screw getting beaten up and started training kick boxing and kung-fu and as some of you will no doubt know people who [learn to fight] for the wrong reasons, they never last. Truth be told I didn’t, I lasted about 9 months then packed it in. Not before doing what I shouldn’t have, fighting back to the bullies and came out worse that I would have in the first place. Since then I’ve dabbled off and on in other “sportsâ€. I competed for my University in archery and won, not that it was exactly stiff competition in the men’s barebow category… There was 2 of us. But it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or by a mile, winning’s winning so I’ll take it. Since graduating University last year, I’ve not really done much. I’ve done a little bit of powerlifting, well would like to say I had, but was pretty much just lifting heavy weights and getting shown proper form by a guy I knew who is/was a competitive powerlifter. So hopefully I had better form than my buddy up there. I’ve also dabbled a bit in airsoft and was a member of a semi-competitive team, we liked to think we were competitive but we all know we were just a group of men, and women on occasion, running around the woods “playing soldiersâ€. Oh, sorry about that… So what brought you here? That’s better. Well like I’ve said, I’ve always been a nerd. I can’t really remember how I stumbled across this site. It was one day at the end of last year and I subscribed to the mailing list instantly, however I never really frequented the forums much. But since I’ve just returned from 2 weeks in Orlando nerding it up in Universal Studios and sitting on my butt I decided now was the time to actually get the finger out and put this forum account to use! No recollection of how you found here, rats! What do you hope to gain from being here? Nope, sorry! I'm not exactly sure, I love the idea behind the real life RPG as I've played a handful of table-top RPGs in the past. I suppose I really like the idea of the mutual support the whole community brings. Everyone encouraging each other to do well and better themselves. And most importantly I’m looking forward to making some adventuring buddies and conquering the daemons life will throw at us, together, as a team! Thanks for your time! Don't mention it! Just be nicer to begin with mmkay? So I guess that’s a little bit about me, why I’m here etc. Look forward to joining you all in this adventure we call life! TLDR: Go read it…
  9. Yet another challenge newbie here, I'm in if you'll let me that is!
  10. I'm with you on the smoking one! I was off it last year for a handful of months then started again, oops! I'm quitting this challenge also, accountabilibudies? As far as exams go, I'm sure you conquer this one! You've put your mind to it now so just need to get your head down! Your goals seem good! I'm interested to watch the progress with your lifting as it's almost exactly what I'm doing this challenge, what are you starting at weights wise? Good luck! You'll rock it I'm sure!
  11. Woo! Good luck! I'd love to be able to join in on the PLP challenge, unfortunately I don't have a pull up bar in the house, yet... Interested to see how it goes, subbing!
  12. Thanks a lot! I'll definitely look her up! That does seem like a pretty awesome reward for doing it, hardest part'll be breaking old habits and making new ones!
  13. Alrighty! Well this is both my first post and my first challenge, long time lurker finally getting off his ass! Goal 1: Train! (STR: 5) I’ve been a bit of an underpants gnome in the past, always planning to train in different ways but never actually really sticking to it. Time for this to change! The solution I see to this is be strict, keep it simple and focus on the endgame. I used to train a couple times a week (off and on) but have really neglected it lately, just back from vacation and got another coming up in 14 weeks-ish… so time to step up. The plan is to stick to a 5x5 routine 3 times a week, which for the purposes of this is 18 workouts. Since it’s been a while I’m going to back it off and start back down at 25kg for everything (except deadlifts) and work back up. So how my success at this will be graded is pretty simple, if I reach the number of workouts below I get that grade. A: 18 | B: 13 | C: 9 | D: 4 Goal 2: Remove Vices! (CON: 3 | CHA: 2) I’ve always had a pretty addictive personality so now is the time to make a move on the addictions! The primary one is quit smoking! Not exactly earth shattering or surprising but this is a big one to cut out. Been doing it “casually†for about 2 years and have noticed that I’ve been losing lung capacity and there’s always the obvious risks associated with it. This is another simple one to grade, it’s completely pass/fail and will be worth 67% of the goal. The other vice is one a lot of people have also… Cut out sugar/soda! I’ve not exactly been much of a soda drinker but the last 2 weeks I spent in Orlando were spent with a Mountain Dew in hand several times a day, so need to wean myself off that. It’s also a case of cutting out sugar in tea/coffee as well. I don’t really eat sweets/candies so that’ll be easy mode! This one is pass fail also worth the remaining 33% of the goal. Goal 3: Chill out! (CON: 2 | WIS 3) Well this seems simple enough right? Nope. I’m constantly sitting watching YouTube videos, someone livestreaming or regular TV when I’m not working (stupid sedentary lifestyle) so I’m looking to give myself a couple mins a day to just relax rather than sitting in front of a computer screen. So, taking inspiration from (read: directly copying) Steve’s own goals I’m going to start having some chill time. Every day I’m going to do one of two things: Spend at least 1min/week into the challenge it is meditating Read 5 pages/week into the challenge Similar grading style to goal 1 here, for each day I do this I get 1 point, up to a maximum of 42. A: 42 | B: 30 | C: 21 | D: 10
