  1. UPDATE! GOAL # 1 - The Advocare challenge seems to be going well. One thing I did in addition to this goal is to minimize my chocolate intake. I'm proud to say that I haven't had any chocolate in one whole week! We'll see how long this lasts. GOAL # 2 - I admit I've been slipping on this goal as I haven't actively practiced Hand Stand Push-ups. I'm going to start trying different techniques to see what I can do to get this down. GOAL # 3 - We haven't done any dead lifts recently at the gym but I feel that I'm getting stronger. It's hard to explain but I think it's because I've increased my protein and have been sleeping more. GOAL # 4 - I've been somewhat social as I've been making plans to reacquaint myself with old friends. A fellow CrossFit member has invited me to check out his Mixed Martial Arts school this week, so I'm going to try to make it there. Overall, I think I'm making decent progress. I need to make more of an effort to get those hand stand push-ups down and deadlifts.
  2. Today we did squat cleans and split jerks at my CrossFit gym. I was able to do 155 lbs which is a new personal record for me! Hopefully doing movements like these will help with reaching my Deadlift goal.
  3. One thing I did today was not buy any chocolate while I was grocery shopping. That's a big step for me! Part of the "Advocare" challenge is to limit sugars, so I wanted to reduce the amount of chocolate that I eat (which is usually a lot!).
  4. I do recommend watching Silver Lining Playbook. It's an unconventional "rom com" with terrific acting and emotional performances. Plus Jennifer Lawrence is pretty hot.
  5. Awesome goals, KnightWatch! You're doing great!
  6. Thanks Devyn and Benbot! I've been told I have the strength to do a complete hand stand push up, but I don't have the form down yet. I'll work on the technique first to see what I'm capable of.
  7. Today is Day 3 of the challenge and it seems to be going well. I haven't really felt any changes since I started the Advocare 24-Day Challenge but it's probably too early to tell. There is a herbal cleanse product that you use before going to sleep that's pretty cool! I spoke with other members of my CrossFit gym and they seem to be in love with Advocare products. I started researching ways to improve handstand pushs ups and one way to improve your efforts is to lose weight! Essentially your pushing your bodyweight upward which makes it difficult for heavier people (I'm currently 186 lbs). We'll have to see. We haven't done any deadlifts yet and I don't know if we're doing them soon because my CrossFit gyms posts their workouts one day at a time. I plan to go see Sliver Linings Playbook with a friend. Apparently, it's a good movie?
  8. It's going good! A friend suggested doing cartwheels to help with handstand push ups so I'll try that soon. The Advocare challenge consists of taking a fiber drink which does tastes kind of weird, but it's supposed to help. I'll make sure to increase my usual weights on Deadlifts next time we do it at my CrossFit gym. Maybe I'll speak to one of the trainers to see what I can do to get stronger at that movement...
  9. Thanks to Devyn I joined a geek group on www.meetup.com which should help me out on my fourth goal (being more social). I'm also going to start attending my local comic book shop (Bedrock City on 1960) more frequently to stay up to date with comic book happenings.
  10. Thanks Devyn! Good luck to you as well with your challenge.
  11. Here are my starting measurements: Weight: 187.4 Right Arm Bicep: 15" Chest with Shoulders: 49.2 inches Waist: 37 inches I started using Advocare products this morning so we'll see how it goes.
  12. Thanks to the encouragement from fellow NF member Devyn - I have decided to sign up for the 6 Week Challenge! Here are my goals as follows: GOAL # 1 - COMPLETE ADVOCARE 24 DAY CHALLENGE (+2 WIS) I've also signed up for the "Advocare 24 Day Challenge" at my CrossFit gym so I'm going to do this in conjunction with that program. The "Advocare" challenge consists of a package of supplements and products thats intended to detox and cleanse your body. You are also encouraged to eat clean and healthy. Advocare has been endorsed by my CrossFit trainers and I've seen people who have achieved results by doing it. I plan to continue using Advocare products after the "24 Day Challenge" is over and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. GOAL # 2 - DO A FULL HAND STAND PUSH UP (+4 DEX, +1 STR) I've been doing CrossFit for about two years consistently and I've always had trouble with hand stand push ups. It's an awkward movement for me and I haven't been able to get it done yet. I plan to work on building upper body strength and practice being upside down. GOAL # 3 - DEADLIFT 325 LBS (+4 STR) Recently, I deadlifted 275 lbs three times. My previous one rep max was 235 lbs. I want to be able to build enough strength to be able to deadlift 325 lbs as I know I'm capable of doing so. I plan to work on my Deadlift form and developing the necessary strength to lift heavier weights. GOAL # 4 - BE MORE SOCIAL (+1 CON, +3 CHA) As an introvert who enjoys solitary activities and works an unconventional schedule, I really don't go out much. I'm actually an easy going guy who enjoys spending time with people, but those comic books and television shows won't watch themselves! I plan to reconnect with old friends and not turn down any invitations to social events. I'll try to keep everybody updated on my progress. Excelsior!

    PS4.

It looks promising, but of course we'll have to wait and see. I noticed they didn't actually show the console or what the price might be. I am surprised to see Diablo III (a PC exclusive game) come to a console.

What are your thoughts on Sony's press conference about the Playstation 4? Here's a link that pretty much summarizes it - http://www.complex.com/video-games/2013/02/12-things-we-learned-about-the-ps4-from-sonys-big-announcement-event/

    I met Fran

"Fran" ain't no joke. You got it done, though. I'm sure next time you'll kill it!

    CrossFit!

Thanks for the link, msuroo. I've seen some completely ridiculous antics done by CrossFitters. I've even seen people get seriously injured (well, it was mainly their fault). CrossFit definitely has it's pros and cons.
  17. Nice to meet you all! I'm honored to be a part of the rebellion. Yes, I've been told I talk like Grover too.

    CrossFit!

I'm new to this forum, but I was wondering how the "Nerd Fitness" community felt towards CrossFit. I've been doing CrossFit since 2008 (off and on) and I feel it's one of the best strength and conditioning programs out there. There's a lot of criticism about CrossFit but it really has changed my life. I'm stronger and fitter than I've ever been thanks to CrossFit.
  19. I was just wondering if there were any other CrossFit practitioners in the "Nerd Fitness" community here. I currently train at CrossFit Champions (www.crossfitchampions.com) in Tomball, Texas. If you are a CrossFitter, which affilate do you train at? Who knows - maybe we can meet up and do "Fran" together one day!
  20. I was introduced to this website by a friend of mine and I must admit - this is pretty neat! I currently do CrossFit three or four times per week along with running. I also follow the Paleo lifestyle (to the best of my ability). I look forward to meeting new people and seeking different and better ways to improve my health.
