  1. Another late update!!!!!!!!!! Sorry but it could not be helped. Mix of good and bad news for this one. A good friend died Monday night so it's been a difficult week, and still the wake and funeral to go. It was quite sudden, but he lived a long and full life. Good part: Despite this tragedy ... KEPT UP WITH MY GOALS!!!!!!!!! Finally I have broken the habit of letting anything going wrong in my life put a hold on my health, fitness, and personal growth. To be honest, my diet has suffered greatly this week because I just couldn't be bothered cooking, but I have kept up faithfully with my green tea. Just finished another strength training session this morning before getting ready to head out to help with arrangements. I hope to keep this up and still go strong. Perhaps it's because this particular event that could have potentially wrecked my goals is something that teaches me DO NOT WAIT!!!!!!! I'm only 27, but fixing myself now will mean I don't have to leave my loved ones behind by a sudden heart attack. Will still try to get better about updating, but for now just happy I'm still on track.
  2. UPDATE!!! Very late, I know. But I've been quite busy late. And yet still .... I've stuck with my goals!!! Middle of week 2 and still going strong. I'm well on my way to being able to sing my Irish song, still a bit shaky right now trying to do it from memory, but I've got until Sunday night to be able to do that. Not sure how I'll track that, I know iphone has a voice record. For now about to go make my green tea, will try to update more.
  3. NEVER GIVE UP Round 3 Challenge 1 - my Dad went through surgery, I lost my umph. Challenge 2 - got the flu in week 3, and wasn't fully recovered until week 5 so left it off. Now? No excuses. I never chose extraordinary goals that were unachievable, even for a beginner. I just let life get in the way as an excuse. Well no more!!! I'm tired of it, tired of feeling tired and sore from nothing. I want to be tired and sore from a hard day's work! Putting myself in, head on. In it to win in. Let's git 'er done!!!! Goals Complete a 30 Day Challenge - This is a 6 week challenge. That's 42 days. I've never been able to do a 30 day challenge, or rather I've never even tried, because it's an every day absolute thing. There are a lot of days when I make excuses and am just lazy, but there's always at least one day a week when I just can't stop to do a workout. This time I can't use that excuse to not do it because I have 12 free days to work with. I know my schedule, when I'm camping for an event, when I have other training sessions, when I'm out with friends. 8 Days I know I won't be able to do training. That leaves 4 extra days for an unanticipated illness, injury, last minute work to do, etc, etc. Yoga in the Morning, Yoga at Bedtime - I miss yoga. I used to do it and always feel great. I've never had a huge problem with flexibility, probably one of the only fitness aspects that came natural and with little effort to me. But just because I'm good at something doesn't mean I should stop before getting great at it. Found some yoga routines, one to wake up, one to help you sleep. 8 moves, 30 seconds a piece. At the most a minute each. That's at most an extra 8 minutes. Green Tea - I've learned a lot about eating over the last two challenges, and I think I have a pretty good handle over it. Far from perfect but taking it easy. I need to focus on the little habits more than the overall picture. Cement one small habit, then add another, and another ... you get the picture. First one to cement is 3 cups of green tea a day. This country (Ireland) is obsessed with tea, so even if I'm out and about, at a friends, camping, there's always time for tea. Just have to throw a few tea bags in my purse and not a worry. First two weeks, 1 cup. Weeks 3 and 4, 2 cups. Weeks 5 and 6, 3 cups. Non-Fitness Challenge: Irish! - 3 songs. One each two weeks. There are 3 songs I've chosen, all with YouTube videos and full lyrics (both Irish and English). They're pop songs which have been covered in Gaelige, so I'm already familiar. One each 2 weeks. 'Little Lion Man' by Mumford & Sons, 'Rollin' in the Deep' by Adele, and a short Lady Gaga song medley. SO LET'S DO THIS!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH (WAR CRY)!!!!!!!
  4. No tattoo voting unfortunately. It all depends on what design is perfected first/what money I can put towards it. It definitely won't be one of the larger tats, something I can complete in one session. Week 3 is busy, but good. I've not been keeping up online but I have been reaching my goals. Weight watchers 100% tracking and honest, my second roller derby is tomorrow morning, and I'll have time for my 3rd belly dance on Saturday. Been trying to be good this week since my son's birthday is Sunday and I have the entire day planned, so no time for exercise, and there's breakfast pancakes, party with cake, then off to Pizza Hut, then the cinema. Definitely not going to be a low carb day. But we all need to indulge a little for special occasions. Next week will back and motivated. How's everyone else doing?
  5. Hey guys, hope everyone is feeling pretty good. I've been trying to cut down and been doing ok. Little disheartening that the scale doesn't move or has even gone up a bit. I know this is because I'm gaining muscle (5 intense training sessions a week). One big thing is I've given up alcohol (for the most part) because I know it's empty calories. Anyone else doing this? Does it make a huge difference?
  6. Little bit late with my update but at least it's a good one! Week one went really well and I've been trying to keep it up. Went to my 3rd roller derby session today and I have a training/scrimmage on Sunday! That makes 4 this week! But I have still been keeping up with belly dance. Another 2 hour session on Saturday and it will count as a win for the week Weight watchers has been kept up with. Still some high point counts, but still trying things out and aiming to get things even. Been laying off the alcohol to keep my count down. Any little bit helps, even if a glass of wine at the end of a hard day is hard to go without! As for the tattoo, still deciding on which design (realistically I have 3 to narrow down from which to get now). Hope everyone else is going well with their goals!
  7. Hey guys! It seems everyone on here is doing quite well. Dates, birthdays ... woot! Hope everyone is doing ok this week. I've been completely honest recording my food and watching how much it adds up. Not doing too bad, but I could do a lot better (always). Week one is really being used as a learning curve. Slowly cut down my calories (must drink green tea, not regular sweetened, must drink green tea, not regular sweetened). Trying to let my fitness not be a factor in my eating habits. What I mean by that is just because I did a really hard roller derby session that morning, does not mean I can add extra portions that night!
  8. Oohhh, we should get together and play Zombie tag! Or like set a date to do go to a paintball place and do a zombie game!!! That's assuming everyone else is as into zombies and the idea ...
  9. Thanks everyone for the support! Just checking in for the week. So far so good. Been honest on weight watchers, everything has been put on there. Which makes my point count very high, but hopefully I'll use that to start slowly getting my intake down. Though adding roller skating to my activities has really put my earned activity points up! Went to two skatefit sessions, I knew it would be all I'd get to this week. Though next week I'll be free for 3 of them, so that's my goal. Always wrecked from it, but really glad I went. Recommend it to everyone! Limerick even just started it's own men's team Belly dance is more for weekends, got some in already but hope to make sure I've got my goal by Sunday night. No work on the tattoo yet, I need to decide which design I'm going to commit to and then get it in. Hope everyone else is having a good first week!
  10. Sorry that you don't have the practice space. We rent out a skating rink for skatefit, Friday morning and Monday evening so it's no problem with the public. And our derby goes on at a big sports complex that has a skating section. I definitely wouldn't trust myself to work on anything with kids around. Though I just got my son his first pair of skates, so will be taking him to the public sessions. Good luck in the future!
  11. I just joined Ireland's Roller Derby League. Anyone else in the sport?
  12. I'm in! I love all sorts of books, so far the only thing I've seen suggested that I've already read is the Terry Goodkind series. So hopefully the group decides on something new. I'll throw it out there - "Physics of the Impossible" Michio Kaku
  13. Hey! 3 other Nerds in Ireland! Hopefully we can create some sort up meet up/support network! Fair warning - I'm from Texas, living here 6 years now.
  14. Hello Fellow EU Residents! I'm living in Ireland but it doesn't look like there are many nerds here. I would love to have an excuse to make a trip to Denmark for a meet up though
