  1. Moved to a better location. Garrison Park, next to Crockett High, Stassney & Manchaca. Same time, 530pm Wednesday.
  2. Bruce Lee in the Tao of Jeet Kun Do recommends starting with small things, like putting your shoes and pants on standing up. Sounds goofy, but it really works over time. If you can't do it immediately, lean against the wall or a chair, and slowly work your way up. Standing one-legged anytime helps me alot too.
  3. Super-effin cool! My da and I grafted an orange onto a lemon tree, orangey lemons taste great....might have to try and go for limes onto it too!
  4. Parkour is on my mind!

  5. Week 2 of Challenge Wrap-up: Long week. My motivation was low, though I still managed to complete all my goals. Did my bodyweight workout thrice, practiced parkour twice, and ran. I didn't track my running, just ran a mile twice. I seriously have parkour on the brain. I find myself waking up in the morning, wanting to go run and jump and balance on stuff. Almost to the point that I've considered calling in sick to go jump off crap.
  6. Not yet, ATM I can't really afford it. They do have classes at the Crossfit&Fearless gym not too far from. Soon...*rubs hands together excitedly*
  7. Wonderful Wednesday Workout: Went to Town Lake with Scarlet and Denniah, and practiced some parkour. Lots of box jumps, balance beam, some running. It was really nice. We went for about 2 hours, and totally passed out by 9pm. The knee was sore after a while, but doing okay today.
  8. Totally forgot to update this. On monday, I did my bodywieght workout, adding extra reps on everything. I don't feel anywhere near as sore anymore. Tuesday, I busted my knee showing off like a dumbass. I was showing my workmates how I can do a wall run up. I landed it the first time, but missed the grab at the top. the second time, my foot slipped, and I bashed my left knee on the wall. It's sore, but didn't stop me from doing my bodyweight workout again, along with some crunches. It's a bit sore today, but not too bad. Might have to take today off.
  9. 1st Week of 6-Week Challenge Wrap-up What a wonderful, invigorating, infuriating week. I met all of my goals, with an added bonus. I did my bodyweight workout thrice, ran 2 miles, and practiced parkour twice. The bonus is that my lovely wife is as excited as I am about parkour, and we've been training together. Maintaining a training regime has made me happier, more energetic, and so freaking hungry! If I had known that this is how it would make me feel I'd have started years ago. I'm very excited for week 2, even though I got the serious drag-ass today.
  10. W/ Windows Movie Maker I could turn out a montage in a couple of hours, as long as the footage is good, and everyone doesn't clog the works by sending 2 hrs of footage with only 3 mins of usable footage.
  11. Spent another hour or so at the park with Scarlet practicing parkour. Jumps, balance beam, arms, etc. We did 5 post runs, lots of precisions, I was able to cross the swingset with just my arms and a bunch of little things. We both feel energized and confident. Something about getting over the mental block that says "I'll never make that jump" and landing it is quite invigorating.
  12. Thank you so much for sharing! The quality, editing and flow of the film was wonderful. Should be a film school must-watch. Watched it this morning with my wife, then hit a park to practice! Ultra-mega-supra-inspiring vid!
  13. I'm sure it's from exercise. I went from not working out at all to a junkie in a few days. I've always been a bit stiff in the legs, and have been stretching alot, which helps. But no pain prior to beginning this challenge.
  14. *nodnod* I'm quickly finding out that this statement is 100% true for me. After we did our lil Parkour thing on Weds I did 70 box jumps. woke up so sore, but even doing 5 mins of stretching and some jumping jacks made things much better. Thanks!
  15. Just curious, are we talking traditional Jiu-jitsu or Gracie/brazilian? I agree with DJ, Jiu-Jitsu and a good bodyweight routine.
  16. I've been having a very curious sensation as of late. In the mornings my legs are very sore, and stiff, specifically my thighs, calves and ankles. I stretch out, which relieves it to the point that I don't walk funny, but I feel it with every step or sit down. Then, after work I do my bodyweight workout or run, and the pain and stiffness disappears. Certainly I feel the workout, but the increase in range of flexibility and general easing of tension makes me curious. IS it simply a matter that by getting my heart rate up and moving I am flooding the muscles with O2 and fresh blood, causing the feeling of release, or is there something else at play that I am unaware of? Any help would be appreciated, as I am a very curious cat.
  17. Day 5 went very well. I completed my 3rd Beginner Bodyweight of the week, and feel absolutely fantastic! I am really surprised how quickly I am coming to crave a workout, and by how good it makes me feel. In the mornings, I wake up sore and stiff. Down a liter of water and stretch, and pretty soon I want to work out. The two mornings I didn't do anything this week, I felt very stiff, so much to the point I'm doing stretches and crunches in my cubicle at lunch. I came home yesterday with a serious case of the "Don't Wants", engaged my 20 second beast mode, and suddenly I'm doing the Bodyweight twice through. I even worked on my life goal. Practiced step-slides, bounces, and tried to freestyle a bit. It felt awkward, but I'll get there! The most astounding thing to me is how on the days I'm the most sore, a workout both loosens and mollifies my musckles. And now it's just a lovely tingly soreness, my legs saying "hey...workouts are great!"
  18. I have 1 friend who practically prides himself on being a fat, pale, outta shape IT nerd. He was kinda messing with me yesterday, when I was complaining about having sore everything. I forget exactly what he said, but was something along the lines of "you're already skinny and have a hot wife, you're wasting your time working out. That's really stupid." To which I replied, "If you really have a problem with me improving myself, we're not really friends." That shut him down rather quickly. He called me this morning, apologized and said he's just jealous. Of course, I told him about NF, how it has inspired and motivated me, and sent an email with success stories. He texted me back saying "I can do this too!". Made me happy, and I told him I'd help him anyway I can. It's one thing to get crap for a valid mistake/accident/bad choice, but not for self-improvement. Anyone I love who is making an earnest effort for self-improvement gets mega-props and encouragement from me!
  19. I can't believe we forgot the food! Austin is a huge foodie town. Almost everywhere you go you can find healthy alternatives. Excluding very occasional fast food(UGH!) I haven't had any corporate crap(chili's, red lobster, olive garden, etc) in the 3 years I've lived here. There's even a local fast food joint that serves only organic local beef and produce, with 5 locations around town. Furthermore, there are so many interesting food trailers. Just this week I had Moroccan, Indian, Peruvian, Cajun/Creole, Ethiopian and the best Italian sandwich made with wood-fired bread baked right in the trailer!. The most expensive was around $10 a meal. Tons of farmer's markets, spice shops, and local produce/meat to be had. Lots of people here are workout junkies and/or have special diets/restrictions, and most places make a very good effort to please. Many places have vegan/gluten-free/Martian/"I don't eat things with toes, seeds or skin" menus. Speaking of churros, Cammy can you recommend any good places in Pflugerville? Just started working here and so far the choices are disappointing to say the least.
  20. Day 4 of my 1st 6 week challenge. So far I have maintained the schedule of working out every day, which makes me happy. I was absolutely dreading it today. My calves and thighs were so tight and sore i did this weird duck/old man shuffle/walk thing all day. After stretching a few times throughout the day, and doing a long, slow warmup. Once I was ready, I powered through it and now I feel so much better. My legs are sore in a good way, I feel energized and ready for a HUGE meal of veggie enchiladas! Did the Beginner Bodyweight, with 10 extra rows, and managed 40sec plank.
  21. Spent an hour or so with my wife and Denniah, practicing basic parkour stuff. We did precisions, jumping from 4x6 to 4x6, worked on rolls, did a lap around the park, and massive box jumps and step ups. Feeling pumped and totally wanting more.
  22. I wanna chase cheese. Can I sign up twice? I did 70 box jumps at our lil NF Parkour meetup this evening. And I still plan on running a 1/2 mile uphill later this week. Does jumping up onto a picnic bench count as a box jump? I'd think so, it was about 2.5 feet off the ground, but I'm a FNG....
  23. After being contacted by another member of the rebellion, we decided to start our own beginning Parkour training club. We meet 530PM on Wednesdays, at the park on the corner of S.1st Street and Emerald Wood, Austin TX 78745. Open to all, please come! Tonight (2/27/13)we'll be practicing precisions, rolls, and general flexibility.
  24. Allrighty. Can do, Esteemed Guild-Mistress. I'm on it like white on rice....or flies on poop, whatever your preference may be.
  25. Challenge Accepted! I'm already halfway there, as my 1 mile jog is half hills. Is there a specific time/distance requirement? I'm new and just trying to get a feel for how challenges work. Thanks!
