  1. Those doll-makeups freak me the f out. They're absolutely terrifying.
  2. There's nothing about going completely shirtless though....
  3. I'm revisiting Deus Ex: Human Revolution, this time the Directors' Cut or whatever it's called. It was on sale for 5€! That's my defense. It's long enough, so Deus Ex and playing around in the Dragon Age Keep should tide me over to November and DRAGON AGE INQUISITION! On the table top front of things, I've been getting into Magic the Gathering with my roommate and I've introduced him to the Game of Thrones board game.
  4. I'm usually a huge metal guy with a slide of Finnish rap, but after a friend of mine introduced me to them I haven't been able to give up listening to http://youtu.be/A7lxd7RL1To A friend of mine advertised a swing dance class in our town, and I'm really tempted to participate.
  5. I reaaaallly should update this more often (instead of my current style of forgetting to update for three days and feeling guilty about it for the rest of the week ) First of all, thanks to both of you but especially Blaidd for adding those tags. I really don't know what class I want to be, seeing that I want to gather strength and be able to ultimately run at least a half marathon and learn Escrima and parkour and a lot of other things. A friend of mine actually managed to entice me with telling me about a swing dance class in our city. I used to do ballroom dancing when I was younger and swing dance seems like a great alternative. But any way, the first week was... average I'd say. I bought tee for the first time living in my own apartment and it has already nearly taken out my interest in soda. A very nice alternative. I actually had some soda yesterday from my one allotted liter and it tasted... different, almost foul. A very nice change of pace so far. I've no idea how far along I'm with my strength goal, I haven't been able to hit the gym as much as I would have liked and haven't tested my maximum. My running has also been sub-par, only 10 km so far. I do have an excuse of being sick this week and still recuperating. But I actually have made progress on my life goals! I only need about 6-9 pages of essay for both of my courses. Thank you guys again for caring about my slow, slooooow quest I'll try to check in more often and do other stuff than lurk around the other forums.
  6. Hi, I once attempted to complete the "old style" challenge but failed miserably after one week. I'm hoping to finish this one. I'm The_Captain, a 22 year old Finnish student and overweight. My interests are nearly all of nerddom: video games, movies and TV, board games and lately Magic The Gathering (I ordered my first deck, a Golgari graveyard play, just today!). I'm also going to try to write some flavor text for my challenge thread (it was meant to go up with this post, but school got in the way of writing it). Without further ado, my Challenge thread. I'd appreciate any feedback and critique that you guys come up with! Name: Bhaskar Alias: Break-Spear Race: Half-orc Class: Spirit Warrior Age: 22 Alignment: Neutral Good Main Quest: Lose 30 kg in 9 months’ time A very good and old friend of mine decided to give up the glorious (sad and lonely) bachelor life and is getting married next summer. I am way too large to fit in my old suits and I really don’t have the money to get a new one. So I need to get slimmer, stat. Also, if I might go on a slight misogynist slant: I need to look good for the bridesmaids and for the wedding pictures that my friends are going to cherish till death do them part etc etc. And it would just generally be healthier (though that’s a secondary objective after looking good ). As such I’m trying to get all the knowledge and accountability that I can find, that’s why I’m here. Goal: Bench Press back to 90kg 1 rep maximum – 4 STR, 1 CHAMy former one rep max for bench was a solid 100kg (well, a bit shaky 100kg). But that was months ago and it has decidedly dropped after I stopped hitting the gym regularly. I’d like to see that max up there again, along with the rest of the major lifts. This seems like a reasonable goal when I consider my current max is about 75kg. Goal: Run at least 72 km – 3 STA, 1 DEXRight, there is also a secondary reason for this being one of my goals: I downloaded the Zombies, Run! app and ran the first 18 missions for a bet with my family and they were all awesome! This way I counted that I can run 4km thrice a week, which fit quite nicely in with going to the gym four times a week. Drop soft drinks to once a week, instead of everyday – 2 WIS, 2 CHAThis just seems generally smart. I drink way too much of soft drinks (specifically Pepsi Max) and it is not good for my teeth or general health. I drink around one liter a day. Goal is to cut that to just one bottle per week. Going tepid turkey with the beginning of this challenge. Life goal: Finish at least two of my missing courses from last year – 2 WIS I’m studying management in University of Applied Sciences, and if I ever want to graduate I need to start finishing off my courses. I’m starting with the intros to International Marketing and European Media Law to be specific. Luckily our teachers are really friendly and flexible so I get to do both of these courses virtually in addition with my current course load for this year. Both require a learning diary of 15 pages, so easy peasy lemon squuezy (nope not that easy at all).
  7. I picked up the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. I read his book Heroes and when I saw this trilogy on sale in a local bookstore I just had to pick it up. Abrecrombie writes deep and intriguing low fantasy. Or is it grimdark? No idea, but I love it.
  8. I've mostly been playing Fallen London and Crusader Kings II: Game of Thrones mod. In Crusader Kings I started as the head of House Belmore, small house in the Vale. Currently my first characters' great-great-great-great grandson is the king of the Mountain and the Vale and in a bloody war with the kingdom of the rock. The king on the Iron Throne is peculiarly a wildling and rules over Kings Landing and little else. It's great mod!
  9. Hi. I'm The_Captain. You are allowed to remember me from few months back when I basically quit the challenge. Well I'm back. To go at it again!. The. Basically I'll be updating my blog about the challenge (and generally) more frequently than this topic, but I'll still probably lurk around here when school gets boring. MAIN QUESTIn six weeks, lose 5 kilos of weight. At the time of writing this I weight 132kg in my gym gear(yeah, I used the scale at the gym, sue me.) with a horrendous body fat percentage. During this challenge I will weigh myself on each tuesday and report the changes or the lack there off here.First Goal - Training (+4 STR)The first goal post will be visiting the gym four times a week. My routine goes as follows: Monday and Thursday are upper body days, Tuesday and Friday are leg and arm days. This is were I failed last time around. I couldn't get to the gym one Thursday and just gave up. No this time! If I won't get to the gym on allotted day, I'll just have to do it some other day during the week! By the way, kind of a small addition BUT NOT AN OFFICIAL GOAL: I'll try to increase the weight of the three main lifts by at least 5kg, hopefully more. That means Bench Press (80kgx6), Barbell Squat (130kgx4) and (Romanian) Deadlift (95kgx8) Second Goal - Training (+4STA, +1DEX) The second goal will probably be the hardest for me as I detest running. The goal will be to start the Couch to 5k program As to why I'm going to be running if I so detest it? Simple; my mother. She enrolled our whole family to run in a marathon in Las Palmas this January. We (or at least I) will only be running 10km but that is still more than I've continuously run in my whole life. Third Goal - Nutrition (+3 CHA)I'm a huge fan of a certain fizzy drink that used to contain leafs of the coca-plant somewhere along it's long history. That's right, cocain... You know what I mean. I usually gulp couple of liters of it per week. During this challenge I can only by 3 litres per week. Trust me that's going to be a challenge for me! Fourth Goal - Life (+3WIS)My last goal will simply be to update this blog regularly. Weekly to be exact. In part because to it have some meaning, in part to keep myself in check for the Six Weeks Challenge and in part because we are required to keep a blog and update it at least once a week for my Creative Writing class. But that's the least reason, I wear (no I don't)Welp, that's it for know I think. See you on the other side... On in your nightmares!!! A song for the night: http://youtu.be/DSlSaGcc0QM
  10. Becoming Batman 6th of May 2013 Ever since I can remember I've wanted to be Batman. I think that we all can agree on the fact that Batman was (and is) awesome. He is a hulking figure of a crime fighter, incredibly intimidating warrior. He is intelligent. He is strong. He can move like a shadow and not be noticed. He can defeat any enemies sent his way, be they a dozen of random mooks or Bane, the man that broke the Bat. But two things stand above all of those facts. He worked for those powers. Those two facts always spoke to me. Unlike Superman, Batman was not born with his abilities. Unlike Flash, Batman did not get his powers in a lab accident. Unlike Green Lantern, Batman did not get his powers from a dying alien. Batman worked for his abilities. He is determined. Batman: Year One states that Bruce Wayne trained his body and mind for 12 years (other comics say other things, just go with this). 12 gruelling years. He did not cut himself any slack. He trained incredibly hard. And he became what he is with determination. There must have been times when he thought his training was going to kill him (or not, he is the goddamn Batman). But he powered through. That is determination. Those are the two things that made me admire Batman the most. He was only a man. But he made himself better. He pushed himself to becoming the best himself he can be. And he is still pushing. Even after Bane broke his back he came back! I want to become Batman. Not a vigilante surging through the night to put the fear of the Bat to superstious cowardly lot, but to became what he stands for. Justice. Determination. Iron will. I want to become a man known for his determination. I want to become a man known for never giving up. I want to become known as a friend to all living things. I want to become a better me. With that introduction out of the way, I present to you my epic quest. It does not match all the prequisites of becoming Batman but I have other goals in my life as well Physique Get to shape (other than round) Get to my ideal weight (between 90-100kg) Be able to lift my bodyweight in a multiple ways Be able to run a half-marathon faster than 1h 42 min (the peak time for males) Move like Batman Learn Parkour Fight like Batman Learn Escrima (more like Nightwing than Batman) Travel the world Not all who wonder are lost... - Visit every continent 1. 11. Hi! I'm an omnivore. I also know that meat production can be incredibly cruel and unethical. I try to eat organically grown meat and natural ingredients. Luckily my uncle owns a dairy farm so I've got first hand experience of dairy production in my country, which is surprisingly humane. Anyway, my completely vegetarian friend is coming to stay over for two nights, and we were discussing meal options. We decided to make some compromises and I'll eat some grains, i.e. rice and we are going to make fried tofu and possibly something soy based. I actually really like fried tofu and have question. Are soy and tofu good for building muscle? Or are they horribly foods and I'm dooming myself by eating them? I've heard that since soy contains estrogen it really isn't optimal food for strength training...
  12. Stardate whatever. Captains' log: entry 4 I realized that I've been tracking only half of the weight of my barbell reps. I mistook some dumbbell tracking guide for barbell guidelines. So all moves even remotely involving barbells should be double the weight in my previous entries. I've been having trouble getting to sleep early. That has meant trouble getting up early. My holiday ended this Monday but I haven't had any lectures till tomorrow afternoon, so I have been able to sleep in mornings. I've steadily gotten up earlier each day from 10 am on Monday to 9 am today. For tomorrow I've set my alarm at seven am. If I get up that soon I'll head straight to the pool for morning swim. If not I'll have to try do that after school aka after 5 pm. If I can't manage that I'll have to do it on Thursday which a another gym day and I'll probably be pretty tired. So basically I have to wake up. But anyways here's today entry: Food tracking: Breakfast was a strawberry smoothie spiced with peppermint. Again, this smoothie was made with fat-free, natural yogurt, so about 50 calories. A protein drink (200 cal) after workout. Lunch was a pre-made sweet chili chicken with rice. 700 cal! Dinner of about 350 grams local chicken breast in a low-fat onion sauce and salad (approximately 680 cal) . And finally supper was three rye bread slices with tomato and cucumber and one whole bell pepper for about 350 calories. Total calories for the day are about 2000 calories. Workout: (this time with full weight) Barbell Curl:15 kg x 10 reps (+14 pts)20 kg x 7 reps (+14 pts)20 kg x 7 reps (+14 pts)20 kg x 6 reps (+14 pts)Close-Grip Barbell Bench Press:20 kg x 14 reps (+44 pts)30 kg x 7 reps (+45 pts)30 kg x 4 reps (+38 pts)30 kg x 5 reps (+41 pts)Barbell Squat:35 kg x 11 reps (+53 pts)35 kg x 10 reps (+52 pts)40 kg x 8 reps (+54 pts)50 kg x 8 reps (+63 pts)55 kg x 8 reps (+68 pts)Leg Press:100 kg x 10 reps (+29 pts)100 kg x 10 reps (+29 pts)100 kg x 10 reps (+29 pts)Seated Calf Raise:100 kg x 10 reps (+34 pts)100 kg x 10 reps (+34 pts)100 kg x 10 reps (+34 pts)Romanian Deadlift:30 kg x 10 reps (+38 pts)70 kg x 6 reps (+62 pts)70 kg x 6 reps (+62 pts)70 kg x 6 reps (+62 pts)
  13. I just finished The Heroin Diary by Nikki Sixx and just picked up Watch You Bleed: The Saga of Guns'n'Roses by Stephen Davies. Oh, the debauchery!
  14. It's half to eleven at night and I have to wake up at 7 am to go for a swim. What better time to re-organize my linen cupboard!

  15. Am I the only one here from Finland? We're supposed to be tech savvy damn it! You guys have your danish meet-up, I'll stay up here and go pout in the sauna.
