  1. Electronics Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer, USN. Four years aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), now entering my 3rd year with Mobile Comms Det Navy Spec War Group 2. My experience was bootcamp is not physically difficult. There was a kid in my division that couldn't do a single pushup when we started and passed the Physical Requirements Test by the end of the 8 weeks. Army and Marine Corp bootcamps are going to be a little more physically demanding of course but I can't really imagine it's that difficult. I think bootcamp was pretty easy in general. You just kind of "turn off." I mean you don't have to think about anything. Someone tells you what to wear, when to eat, what to eat, when to sleep, when to run, when to PT, how to make your bed, how to fold your clothes. Everything is dictated. Easy days IMO. I think the hardest part for most people is being away from home and unfortunately that doesn't really change much. I don't have a wife or kids and even though I love my parents and brothers it doesn't bother me to be away from them but I know some people who can barely deal with it. Being out of country for anywhere between six and 24 months, depending on branch and job, can be hell. I kind of like it myself but that's just me. Just over 7 years and I've seen 23 countries.
  2. I must agree, it is certainly overrated. I think all isolation exercises are overrated. I like to bench cause it makes you feel good but lets face it there are much better lifts to be doing.
  3. I'm James and thats what everyone calls me, well more or less everyone. I'm 24 and a member of the US Navy. I just think that snoozing is a terrible habit and I have no idea when I got into it. I would like to get up early enough that I don't have to rush on PT days (I have to be there a 6:30 and it's a 30 minute walk from my flat). Ideally I would be waking up at 5:00 but that almost never happens. Usually I snooze at least 3 times.
  4. I'm not trying to start reading the Wheel of Time series again so if its Eye of teh World, I'm out.
  5. I can sympathize with that. Getting out was one of my bigger motivations for joining the Navy.
  6. I've definitely read somewhere (and if I have time at work today I'll try to find it) that decline in particular is, as Perry Randall said, better for very specific applications. It might just have been an article in Men's Fitness now that I think about it and obviously their word isn't law. Personally I never feel like I get a good chest work out unless I do some flat bench, but that may just be a mental thing.
  7. Get out and do your own thing. It will be way better for you.
  8. I'm in. I actually started out today after only hitting it once, though I considered hitting it again for a really really really long time.
  9. I'm in and I'll read anything as well. I would prefer something I haven't read though.
  10. I was born and lived mostly in Artesia but I had a lot of family in Alamo and went to college in Las Cruces.
  11. I'm in a fairly decent shape so I figure instead of trying to increase reps or add weight to my workouts I'm going to continue doing bodyweight but try more complex exercises. My balance isn't all that great so I imagine a free standing handstand push-up will probably be the hardest out of the following three. Strength One slow muscle up (+1 STR)One free standing handstand push-up (+1 STR, +1DEX)Five pistol squats per leg (+1 STR, +1 DEX)I used to go to the pool all the time and I loved it. I prefer it to running as cardio and it's less taxing on the body. If I go at lunch everyday I won't have the excuse of "I'm too tired" when I get off work so thats the plan there. Stamina Swim for at least 30:00 2x/week (+3 STA, +1 CHA)I general eat pretty healthy but thats just how I was raised really. I think its time to make a more conscious shift to a better lifestyle. Diet Eat at least one paleo meal a day (+3 CON)I totalled my car about a year agon and I feel really dumb about this but the Credit Union I got my autoloan through has been adding insurance every year. Since I have only been making the minimum payment I'm not making any head way on paying it off. It's time to stop procrastinating and get my finances in order. Life Goal Get caught up on my car payment (about $1,000) and set up an automatic allotment. Also I will get do whatever I need to get the Credit Union to stop adding insurance payments on a car I no longer own. (+3 WIS)
  12. Well I'll be, a fellow New Mexican. I'm going to do the Bataan Memorial Death March one of these years.
  13. Obviously, well maybe I shouldn't use that word, it's not the best tatic and shouldn't be used at every slight. Ender only went full force when he believed that there was no other solution. To relate it to my personal experiences when I put my feet on a deck which I know or resonably suspect to be occupied by a hostile force there is in my opinion no better way to neutralize the threat. Now thats at work when certain things are known. If I'm at the bar at some drunk guy shoves me I'm not going to stab him in the neck with a broken beer bottle. That would be dumb. It's good that neither NK or the US have acted in this manner but you better believe that if it comes to a war we will.
