  1. Hey everyone, Long time lurker, first time poster. I figured that a good way to make sure I'm really dedicated to being healthier is to get involved in the community. The reason I'm finally motivated to do something is that I'm currently really not feeling in control of my own life, and that's not something I find acceptable. This is a way to take some control back. I've been a little overweight and a lot out of shape for probably the last 7 years or so, since I left high school and it's structured sports activities. I used to play fullback on my school rugby team, for any fans of the game out there. Since then, I've toyed around with cardio kickboxing, pilates, and zumba, but I've never been motivated enough to stick to anything. I'm going to change that now. I've joined a softball and soccer team for the summer, and I want to start running (no better way to prepare for the zombie apocalypse). I also really got into biking when I was living downtown and could bike-commute, and I'd like to bike more for fun and exploration. Diet wise, I'm working on cutting out eating-when-bored from my life, and of switching to healthy snacks (fruit and vegetables instead of chips and chocolates). One thing I know I should work on, but am very nervous about, is cutting down on soft drinks. I'm a serious caffeine addict and the withdrawal won't be pretty. On the personal side of things, I'm a grad student living in Ottawa, Canada. I'm looking forward to the return of Game of Thrones (although this season is going to be devastating), and the new Neverwhere radio series (next week!). I picked the name GirlFriday in honour of Rosalind Russell and 1940's His Girl Friday, an inspiring woman to kick start this new lifestyle. Cheers, GirlFriday
