  1. I personally find dancing more fun if you're doing it with a partner. And if you're both good, it can be quite a workout. Especially complicated salsas and tangos.
  2. So far... not that great. My sleep schedule is still out of wack, and I haven't really done much running. My grades are pulling up though, slowly but surely. As far as the dating thing goes, I've tried asking this girl out twice, and while she said she'd like to go, she kept rescheduling until she just ended up cancelling. Note to all the ladies out there who read this: few things are as annoying to a guy as having someone say "yeah, sure, that sounds like fun!", then asking to reschedule at the last minute. I don't mind doing that if something actually comes up, but... if you know that something's coming, let us know so we can reschedule before we spend money on movie tickets. And try not to do it more than once. It really makes it hard to plan, and makes it harder for us to trust you (especially when we see you on facebook or tumblr during the time we would have been on the date. not. cool.)
  3. Hello there! My name is Julius, and my goal is to become like The Doctor, from Doctor Who. Okay, maybe not EXACTLY like him. I don't have a TARDIS, for one. Though if anyone knows a Doc Brown with a spare DeLorean, that'll do in a pinch. This is technically my third challenge, but, well... It's been a few months at school eating low-quality food covered in bread and cheese. Not very good for someone on the Paleo Diet (which worked wonders for me). I figure It's a good point to start over with a clean slate. So, what's my goal for the next six weeks, you ask? Yup. My goal is to lose 5-10 pounds by Christmas. I am currently around 220, so that would put me back in the 210's. Not where I was when I was on paleo, but it's a good start. So, in order to do that, I have these four goals: 1) The Doctor is, well... Yeah. So, my first goal is to pass all my classes this semester with C's or higher. It's not as easy as it sounds, but hopefully I can pull it off. The daily part of this is simply doing all the homework assigned for each day, and turning in all papers. Again, not as easy as it sounds, especially for me. (WIS 4) 2) Run at least half an hour every day. I'll log how far I go, and try to improve at least a little bit every day. This may get tricky, considering I'm in Utah and it's November, but who knows, running in the snow might be fun. Right? (DEX 2, STA 2) 3) Date more. now, hold on, I know what you're thinking! "But Julius, the Doctor is one of the most socially awkward characters in television!" That may be mostly true. BUT, he is not always. I present to you, this classy son of a gun He's only on the air for one movie. But in that movie, he becomes the first doctor to do THIS One appearance, and the 8th Doctor is further with the ladies than any other regeneration before or since. Yeah. Think about that. 9 and 10 never kissed Rose. Fanfics don't count. Anyways, back on topic. My goal is to go on at least 3 more dates this semester, and talk to a girl every day. I will count texting, because there's this one girl I know who doesn't really get out much. I still like talking with her though, so that'll do (for now, at least) (CHA 3) 4) Get my sleep pattern back on track. Even a time lord needs to rest once in a while, especially when undergoing a physically taxing transformation. Well, my sleep pattern is royally screwed up at the moment (you may note that this is being posted at 4:30 AM. I've been awake all night doing homework. I don't know how tomorrow is going to go, and I'm not exactly looking forward to it). The faster I can get it back on track, the better. Seriously, even my grades depend on this. So, my goal is to every day get to bed by 10 PM, be asleep by 11 PM, and wake up by 8 AM. If I can get on that schedule, I should never miss another class this semester. (CON 3, STA 1) So, there we have it! My plan on becoming a Time Lord, with a side goal of "master a British Accent". But that one's just for fun, I'm not going to put any points into that one.
  4. New challenge, New goals, this time focused on preparing to return to school in the fall. 1- CUT BACK ON VIDEO GAMES. My dad is concerned that my grades will not survive this next semester if I spend as much time playing games as I usually do. So, new rules are these: a. 5 hours a week b. 2 extra hours on Sundays REWARD: +3 WIS, +2 STA 2- WORK OUT EVERY DAY. a. Some form of intentional physical activity that works up a sweat. Treadmill or crossfit gym (or something else along those lines) preferred. b. Minimum time of 40 minutes c. Sundays excluded d. Every other day while on vacation REWARD: +3 STR, +2 DEX 3- HAVE $5000 SAVED. Pretty self-explanitory. I have to pay for this next semester, and it’s going to be pricey. I currently have $2600 in my savings account. Let’s roll. REWARD: +2 WIS 4- PHYSICALLY PREPARE MYSELF. Yeah, this one needs a bit of a list of rules. a. Brush and floss teeth every day b. Take Accutane twice a day REWARD: +3 CHA Hopefully, this'll do it to get me in shape and ready to go back to school!
  5. Time to report I guess. 1) Run for a minumum of half an hour every day at at least 4 miles an hour. Endurance is the key here - no stopping until i'm done with the workout I assign myself for that day. +1 STR, +2 STA Failed. I didn't work out at all. F. No points. 2) Paleo. 30 days. Go. (actually, I started this one last monday) +2 CON Managed to do this spectacularly! I lost 15 pounds just from this! It worked Spectacularly! A+, +2 CON 3) Read from my scriptures. Five days a week, work my way up to every day. +1 WIS Ish? I did it about 2 times a week. D. +.25 WIS 4) Learn a new accent every week. This week: Russian, followed by Estuary English and possibly Texan. +1 CHA Sorta. I got a terrible cold that actually knocked my voice out for 2 weeks. However, I did learn the Texan accent, and my Russian and RP English is getting better. B. +.75 CHA OVERALL RESULTS: +2 CON, +.25 WIS, +.75 CHA
  6. Okay, because I only did three of the six weeks last time (and because of other extenuating circumstances) I had to begin my challenge this week. Once again, I am only giving myself half points, and this time I am not going to level up. That way I should be all caught up. Anyways, on to my goals! 1) Run for a minumum of half an hour every day at at least 4 miles an hour. Endurance is the key here - no stopping until i'm done with the workout I assign myself for that day. +1 STR, +2 STA 2) Paleo. 30 days. Go. (actually, I started this one last monday) +2 CON 3) Read from my scriptures. Five days a week, work my way up to every day. +1 WIS 4) Learn a new accent every week. This week: Russian, followed by Estuary English and possibly Texan. +1 CHA Onwards to glory!
  7. And so ends my first (half) challenge. I have traversed the area around the vault and now feel comfortable with where I stand. Granted, I could do better with working out on a consistent basis, but I intend to make that part of my next challenge. Perks gained: Swift Feet (Rank 1) - In order to survive in the wasteland, you must be able to get away from a tight spot quickly and efficiently. Try to run two miles at 5 mph or more without pausing on that treadmill you still have. Everyone has to start somewhere, after all. +1 DEX, +2 STA REPORT: Began walking 2 miles at 3 MPH. Ended running 1.75 miles at 4.9 MPH. GRADE: B POINTS AWARDED: .8 DEX, 1.6 STA Cap Collector (Rank 1) - If you are going to get anywhere in the dog-eat-radroach world of the wastes, you are going to have to have some means of trading with others. Saving up 1000 caps ($1500) should do the trick. +2 WIS REPORT: Current bank account balance: 1561 GRADE: A POINTS AWARDED: 2 WIS Zit Free – Plenty of ladies survived the apocalypse. But oh no! You are periodically afflicted with large and unattractive pimples! Fortunately, Vault-Tec scientists have the cure! Take one pill of Accutane every single day, and you can bet that those buggers will never come back. +1 CHA REPORT: Achieved. Did not skip a single day. GRADE: A POINTS AWARDED: 1 CHA Thirst Quencher – Ahh, the sweet taste of a nuka-cola. But wait, what’s that noise? Your pip-boy is clicking away at an alarming rate! You’d better stop drinking soda and switch to purified water ASAP, or you might just end up a fat old ghoul! +1 CON REPORT: Achieved. Did not drink any soda, despite eating at a place with one of those really awesome choose-your-own-soda-and-flavor machines a couple of times. GRADE: A POINTS AWARDED: 1 CON I look forward to my next challenge, where I begin my transformation from an adventurer and wanderer into a combination of Scout and Assassin I like to call a "Thief". I may stick around here a little, but I think that this is a much more fitting final goal for me.
  8. wall handstand. The 1-2 minutes wasn't all at once, mind you. more 2- 30 second-ish reps (another thing I learned- it is really hard to count when upside down) and then having my feet slip off the wall on the last attempt I'll remember that for next time though
  9. Well, today I learned that I need to figure out a way to keep my blood from just pooling into my head. I was able to do it, but I couldn't hold it for more than a minute or two. Anyone else have this problem?
  10. That sounds fantastic! good for you! Diet is certainly a big factor in skin heath. Unfortunately for me, I have a genetic predisposition towards cystic acne. My face will be perfectly clear for weeks, or even months, then suddenly BAM! Giant zit that gets ridiculously uncomfortable (seriously, these things can get about as big as a dime, and often show up right next to my eye or inside my ear). That's why i'm going to be taking accutane- it's the only thing that really knocks it out permanently.
  11. Okay, one week down. so far, I'm 1/3 of my way to getting the "Cap Collector" perk, and have been sticking to "Zit Free" and "Thrist Quencher" very well. Haven't had a single soda all week. The one I've had the most physical progress on so far is "Swift Feet". Out of the last 7 days, I have worked out for 4 of them, and increased my speed from 3 MPH to 4 MPH, so I'm halfway to my goal. I think once I achieve it, I'll go for longer distances. This next week, I think i'll take on one of the additional Adventurer challenges, or maybe one of the Assassin challenges, since I want to level up into an assassin.
  12. Thanks for the encouragement guys! The soda thing will be a bit easier than it sounds, since I generally only drink soda when I go out to lunch at a food court or somewhere like that. Still, considering how often I go out for lunch at work, I figure that's as good a place to start altering my diet as any. I don't usually have caffinated sodas anyway- just carbonated and full of sugar. Imagine it in Ron Perlman's voice. So awesome. XD
  13. War. War never changes. Since the dawn of man, there has always been struggle. From the duel of Achilles and Hector to the arguments between two siblings, struggle has been part of our nature. For the last several years, I have been struggling to find an effective means of bringing my body out of the slump it has always been in- a slump I will call "The Vault". However, the discovery of Nerd Fitness has inspired me to exit the Vault and explore the difficult wasteland of personal fitness. And so, the vault door grinds open, and I take my first steps out. Perks I plan to gain: Swift Feet (Rank 1) - In order to survive in the wasteland, you must be able to get away from a tight spot quickly and efficiently. Try to run two miles at 5 mph or more without pausing on that treadmill you still have. Everyone has to start somewhere, after all. +1 DEX, +2 STA Cap Collector (Rank 1) - If you are going to get anywhere in the dog-eat-radroach world of the wastes, you are going to have to have some means of trading with others. Saving up 1000 caps ($1500) should do the trick. +2 WIS Zit Free – Plenty of ladies survived the apocalypse. But oh no! You are periodically afflicted with large and unattractive pimples! Fortunately, Vault-Tec scientists have the cure! Take one pill of Accutane every single day, and you can bet that those buggers will never come back. +1 CHA Thirst Quencher – Ahh, the sweet taste of a nuka-cola. But wait, what’s that noise? Your pip-boy is clicking away at an alarming rate! You’d better stop drinking soda and switch to purified water ASAP, or you might just end up a fat old ghoul! +1 CON [Disclaimer: I found out about Nerd Fitness two days ago. I signed up yesterday. I am eager to begin transforming into the person I want to be today. And, as luck would have it, I came in exactly halfway through this 6 week challenge. I don't know exactly how it works, but because I am only doing the second half of this one, I figure I should only award myself a maximum 7 points for this time. I think that sounds fair.]
  14. Hello! My name is Julius. I am very new here, and am very excited to see how this new system of working out goes. Also, I really like meeting new people. Anyways, since stats seem to be in fashion in these introductions, I may as well list some basic info about myself. Age: 19 Height: 6'3" Weight: 228-233 lbs, depending on lunch. Home base: good ol' Atlanta Georgia, y'all! Career: Currently an intern doing data entry. I know, fun, right? and very physically demanding! Favorite game: Skyrim, hands down. Skills: Voice acting, drawing, writing, and gaming. I'm also learning animation and editing, but i'm primarily a voice actor. Random stuff that I think is neat and somewhat related to this forum: I like scuba diving and flying airplanes. Favorite pony: the changelings and/or The Doctor As far as past workout experience goes, i've dabbled in a lot of things, from Taekwondo to Crossfit, but never really settled on a single workout system. My most recent one is watching netflix while walking or running on the treadmill: combining my desire to do nothing with my desire to do something (as paradoxical as that sounds)! After reading over the Real Life Role Playing thread, I came to the conclusion that I am a level 1 Human Adventurer who is looking to eventually become an Assassin/Monk hybrid, focusing on agility, power, and endurance, but mostly agility. I don't know what that would be called, so i'm just going to call it a Ninja class. If there is a generally agreed upon name, let me know. I don't really know how to divide my stats right now, so... i'm not going to just yet. Anyways, I would love to get to know some of you guys better! Please, feel free to leave a comment introducing yourself! And if you have any helpful tips, it would be greatly appreciated!
