  1. I wasn't saying that I like smith machines, I hate them, but I can't afford a better gym right now. My old gym had barbell racks, lots of them. Because I could afford a better gym. When I can afford a better gym, I'll be a member there because, right now, money is the biggest deal breaker for me. I'll stick to the dumbell ohp's in the mean time.
  2. So I've joined a Planet Fitness and they don't barbell racks, which annoys me to no end, but their membership is 100 dollars for the year. I can still squat and deadlift, while feeling annoyed about them, but can anyone suggest an alternative for the snatch and shoulder press? Or even just the snatch? They have those mini barbells but they only go to 30kg and I was doing 60kg on the snatch and overhead press.
  3. There I was doing squats and calf raises and this guy stops and starts watching me. After I finished both exercises he asks "What muscles do THOSE exercises do?!" "They work your legs mostly" "Man, I never do legs" *lifts up tracksuit pants to reveal the skinniest legs* Me: "Start doing legs man."
  4. Thanks for the kind words!! It's very exciting and scary at the same time, I love it!
  5. Delighted to be back on NF!

  6. Hi guys! I live in Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn now, looking to meet people to nerd out with and to network a bit for jobs etc. I'm hoping the nerd-vine can provide!! I'm pretty busy this month with my current job but I'd love to hear what's going on!!
  7. My life has taken a big turn since I was on here last! I WAS going to go to Canada and visit NYC on the way but the visit had something else in mind for me. I met an old flame, THE old flame, and we fell in love all over again and after I spent 2 weeks in Canada, I flew back to New York and married THE old flame. I've been in NY for 5 months now and married for 3. I'm a very happy man and wanted to give a big w00t w00t!!
  8. Hello again my fellow nerds! I was quite active on here for a few months earlier this year and then I just kinda dropped off the map here. Reason being; I was planning a move to Canada and I had a lot to plan and spend more time with my friends in Ireland and I rejoined facebook after a 5 month hiatus so I had less time for Nerd Fitness. But my life has taken an interesting and wonderful turn! The last time I was here I mentioned in a post that on the way to Canada, I would be stopping off in New York to meet up with an old flame and I was hopeful that we would hit it off again. Well...we did. And now we're married and we live in Brooklyn, New York! It felt right and IS right and I couldn't be happier! So I'm here to say hello again and to basically look for friends in the New York City area to hang out with, geek out with and all that jazz! If you were at the New York Comic Con this year and visited the Midtown Comics booth and you saw/heard/talked to an Irish guy working there, that was me! I'm also looking for an under the table job or two while I wait for my green card/visa to come through! SO! If any of you fancy meeting a new guy in New York or can help a fellow nerd out with job leads, I'd be hugely appreciative! Send me a private message and we could talk about something! It's good to be back! Oisin!
  9. Honestly man, try to meet her face to face. If she puts it off or keeps giving excuses, then forget about her! Sorry to hear that I-Jo, but you seem very outgoing and sure of yourself so you'll be graaaaaaaand!
  10. I love seeing myself getting stronger in the gym!

Cheers bro! I only did 3 reps last time, so I think I can add maybe an extra 10kg soon

      That's really great, good luck!

  11. Stop texting. Try to meet her face to face, then you can have a real conversation and actually get to know her. Plus, there are some people who just like people to text them so they have attention on them. Even if you try to meet her and she shoots it down, at least you won't waste time on her. Trust me on this one brother, knowing the truth is better. I am very experienced in this. As for dates, my best dates have been to art galleries, museums and walks on beaches or along scenic routes. I just went on a date to an art gallery and then on a cliff top walk, it was fantastic and the conversation was flowing freely! HOWEVER...I have learned the hard way that asking a girl to go up the mountains with you as a first or second date is "weird". Bringing them up a mountain alone is weird apparently.
  12. Playing a rugby final today. Bring it on! SILVERWARE!

  13. So last week I posted about my Canadian Visa getting approved, well, now I've booked my flights! Vancouver, here I come....via New York, I'm meeting an ex there to tell her that I'm still in love with her and I want a clean slate. Yes, we'll be on opposite coasts but we have a bad past. But it's the past and I'm willing to try. Feels odd sharing that but we're all friends here and I need the encouragement! haha!
  14. Two of the guys on my team talking about a guy who used to play with us "Oh yeah, what was it we called him...'Joe Juice' hahaha, what a terrible nickname...'Juicy Joe'" Prolific steroid user in the off season, hahaha!
  15. Adding an extra big-lift-day to my routine this week, bring it on!!
