  1. Alright so quick update. Got my last cardio and strength session in this week. I'm going to have to step things up a bit though, not sure how but I am thinking working in an morning jog would be a good idea. Studying I missed on Thursday. My boss needed me to stay an extra two hours after my shit to close, happy to do but unfortunately that was when I had planned on studying. Still things could be worse. Also been eating healthy all week so far. Running for Third Week: 2/2 (First Week: 2/2, Second Week: 3/2) Convict Conditioning for Third Week: 2/2 (First Week: 3/2, Second Week: 2/2) Keep Eating Right: 16/19 Points Studying for Third Week: 3/5 (First Week: 6/7, Second Week: 7/7)
  2. I'll post a picture as soon as I get a uniform. Thanks. I think the focus will still be on getting to the point where I can meet the physical standards at least for the next challenge. I figure weight loss will happen as a result and after that I can make it my priority, Also thanks you Kishi and Terosx! I'll try to slip in as many healthy things as I can.
  3. Thanks everybody. So some basic information about my new Guard career. I'm going to be a 92G or a Food Specialist, basically a Cook, as an E-2. I ship out for Basic on January 21st but until then the Guard is going to start paying me and sending me to drills to teach me some of the basics (seriously that extra cash will help out so much). I barely got in on my weight, so going to have to really try and lose 24 pounds over the next 5-ish months. Still it feel pretty damn good to finally have reached my goal. A year and a half work finally paid off. But decided to take a rest day today and work out tomorrow. Next week I'm switching my schedule so that Monday and Friday will be rest days that way on weeks I have drill I'll have a rest day both before and afterwards. Studied a bit of math today, tomorrow I'm going to start studying ranks and insignia for them. That way I know who I need to salute and what to refer to them as. Still I'm really freaking stoked. Running for Third Week: 1/2 (First Week: 2/2, Second Week: 3/2) Convict Conditioning for Third Week: 1/2 (First Week: 3/2, Second Week: 2/2) Keep Eating Right: 14/17 Points Studying for Third Week: 1/5 (First Week: 6/7, Second Week: 7/7)
  4. Hey you're doing a hell of a lot better then you realize. One of my favorite quotes is "Every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" because it is so accurate about everything you do. Having to get reprogrammed, losing weight, joining the military, all these things seem like massive goals that will never happen. All you have to do to get there is keep taking those steps. Eating carrots instead of popcorn, going to the appointments, learning to drive, all these seems like tiny things but they are the beginning of those massive journeys. Most people never get out the door, most people never even get off the couch for that matter. You've already proven that you have the drive that will help you change just by taking those first few steps. You're going to have moments of doubt, you're going to have times when you falter and stumble, it's natural because what you're doing isn't easy. It takes hard work, it takes dedication, it takes grit, and you have that. If you didn't you'd be another one of the people who surf this site but never make an account, never sign up for a challenge, never try to meet your goals. Two weeks ago you decided to change your life and started the journey, and already you're two weeks closer to that goal. Keep walking forward. It'll be hard but keep walking forward. They'll be people who try and stop you because they don't think you can make it, but keep walking forward. They'll be times when you don't think you can do something, but just keep walking. Whenever you feel like what you're doing is useless just look at the progress you have made. Look at the changes in your diet, think about all the time you've been driving, look at how many Zombies Run Missions you've done. Keep walking. You're going to get there, it's just a matter of time now.
  5. Nice! Have fun. And like Zuel and Kishi said there are always options.
  6. Honestly a proper diet is the hardest thing to nail down because of how all or our bodies react to things. More then just the fact that some people can eat anything some people have issues with certain foods and all sorts of stuff. I'd play with your diet till you find something that sticks. And if your body is telling you to lay off a bit, do it. Whole idea of this thing is to get healthy.
  7. Hey any progress is good progress. Key is to get back on the horse and keep on trying to get better.
  8. So quick update. Wasn't able to eat well today, food they provided wasn't exactly good for you, but I did get my strength in yesterday and my cardio in today. Plus side though, I'm now officially a member of the National Guard. So yes, damn exciting. Running for Third Week: 1/2 (First Week: 2/2, Second Week: 3/2) Convict Conditioning for Third Week: 1/2 (First Week: 3/2, Second Week: 2/2) Keep Eating Right: 13/16 Points Studying for Third Week: 0/5 (First Week: 6/7, Second Week: 7/7)
  9. Don't worry about the paleo, it doesn't work for everyone. Better to find out what your body likes using this as a tool. As for exercising boredom is a killer for most routines. Maybe alternate different exercises or use an activity as a replacement?
  10. I think over time you won't have to worry about forcing yourself to resist that stuff, it just sort of happens over time. I had that happen. I've now gotten to the point where I see all the things, know they will taste good, but knowing they aren't worth it.
  11. Blacksmithing sounds like it would be an awesome hobby to have, not to mention all the cool things that you would be able to have. I've been wanting to try it for a while, especially after seeing the Art of Manliness article on making a knife from an old saw blade. The soupcan forge reminds me of something I saw on the Second Season of the show "The Colony". They had an artist there who I honestly didn't think was the best choice, till he made himself a forge and started forging weapons for them. His forge had a smaller mouth though, possibly to funnel all the heat into one area.
  12. Hey Birdwing what's happening? Haven't seen an update so hoping the challenge is going well for you. Drop me a line if needed.
  13. Running Alright so this is going very well. My distance has been shooting up from where it was and I've been putting on a little speed on top of that based on the fact that I can do drills for a longer period of time. Plus I am actually enjoying my runs. While I love Zombies Run I haven't been taking it with me, wearing a backpack is just too cumbersome, and it is now my walking companion. Unfortunately haven't been walking as much as my new going to the gym five times a week has been meaning I've been sleeping like the dead, not enough time in the morning. That will probably be something to work on next challenge I think. Convict Conditioning So this one is going okay. I say okay as I have hit a bit of a snag with Horizontal Pulls. Basically I am progressing at a snail's pace. I knew this would happen as I've never been good at pulling exercises but it still really sucks, especially when my Knee Tucks are getting near the progression standard. Frustrating I guess is the word. But going to stay the course. Eating Right Surprisingly easy. I've found a couple of farm stands nearby that sell all the veggies that I could possibly need and a few that I don't. On top of that trying to cook more meal meals so been getting variety on top of that. Studying Math is really bloody boring. Unfortunately it's also my weak point so where I need to focus. Since my ASVAB is tomorrow I'm giving myself the next two days off from studying, tomorrow as I'll actually be taking the test and afterwards because of the fact that I am sure doing all the contract stuff will be exhausting. Still I'm going to keep in the studying habit. I think I will do alternating days. Day 1 is Math as it really is something I need to work on. Day 2 Will be my Science day, Crash Course has a series on both chemistry and biology it would be good to catch up on so use that for a while. Day 3 will be humanities, either History or a subject of my choosing. So here I can read a psychology book, watch the CrashCourse World History series, or something else "soft". Keep alternating and I'll be a scholar in no time!
  14. Alright so update for the last two days. All went well, did my extra running this week and as an added bonus managed to do my running drills for the entirety of how far I ran last time and ran even farther then that. Since I don't think I've talked about the drills I will now. Basically it involves telephone poles. ... That pause was for comedic purposes. But yeah, I start my run at a nice jog until I hit my first telephone pole. Once I pass that I start to run at around 70% until I hit my next telephone pole where I slow it down again and so on and so forth. It's basically a way to help increase my endurance even faster and apparently it has been working. But on a bad note I did break with the diet today, munched on some chips today while playing Portal 2 with my roommate. It wasn't a lot but still was a break in the program and they didn't even taste that good. Weekly wrap up is next. Running for Third Week: 0/2 (First Week: 2/2, Second Week: 3/2) Convict Conditioning for Third Week: 0/2 (First Week: 3/2, Second Week: 2/2) Keep Eating Right: 12/14 Points Studying for Third Week: 0/7 (First Week: 6/7, Second Week: 7/7)
  15. They actually turned out pretty well, like Beth said they weren't very sweet but still good. The next bit is me going off on a minor cooking tangent so skip if you want I ended up throwing a couple handfuls of raisins into the mix as well as some dry ginger as I've found anytime you add cinnamon ginger is a good one too. On top of that I added some honey to the top after it had baked. Texture wise they came out pretty well, kind of like a cross between banana bread and a brownie. Taste and aesthetics wise they do need a little work. Due to the wheat flour the ginger and cinnamon got leached away and the raisins while healthy don't help much there either. Look wise they kind fo turned people off (I always share) so need to figure out a way around that, possibly by making a bit of batter minus the oats on the side and placing it on the top so it looks like a brownie. Taste I think I'm going to add fresh grated ginger and dried cranberries instead, as they'll help it have an actual taste other then oats and flour. On top of that someone gave me the idea of adding banana to it, so going to substitute that for some of the milk. Exactly.
  16. Alright so in giving with my budget much free food and broccoli was eaten today, and amazingly enough all of it was healthy. ASVAB wise I am still sticking with math for the current moment, gotten to the point where I can do long division in my head with only an occasional error. Strength conditioning went well tonight as well. Now for a ten hour shift tomorrow! Also thinking about trying this recipe tomorrow as a nice snack to bring to work, though adding raisins either instead or with coconut I think. Running for Second Week: 2/2 (First Week: 2/2) Convict Conditioning for Second Week: 2/2 (First Week: 3/2) Keep Eating Right: 11/12 Points ASVAB Studying for Second Week: 5/7 (First Week: 6/7)
  17. I may have to try that. Luckily I've pulled my roommate into the grocery system, came home today to find a couple of things from my portion of the list were crossed out as he had bought them for me. Yeah pull ups are something I need to work at. Had to add a step to the pull system as I can barely do ten horizontal pulls...
  18. Ugh hate it when that happens. Still kudos for actually getting up and doing the workout!
  19. Nice challenge! Cleaning is a tough one, I did that for my first challenge but sort of fell off the wagon. Hopefully you'll inspire me to get back on it.
  20. Actually it is Charles Duhigg's "Power of Habit", seems we have the same taste in books.
  21. Alright so today was rest day which was nice, but also meant I was hungry all the time. I think when my body figures out that we're relaxing for the day it kicks into overdrive trying to repair everything. Everything was good. I ended up making a chicken pot pie which was good, fed my group which means it's also gone. Still love to get compliments. Started a few new ideas like a grocery list on the fridge and an actual schedule for cleaning the house. Running for Second Week: 2/2 (First Week: 2/2) Convict Conditioning for Second Week: 1/2 (First Week: 3/2) Keep Eating Right: 10/11 Points ASVAB Studying for Second Week: 4/7 (First Week: 6/7)
  22. Theoretically I'd head for basic in November. They weren't actually able to reserve my job due to a computer error so it's a tiny bit iffy. Still that also means that no one else could reserve it and I doubt to many people are going for Food Specialist Positions. Exactly. I'm prepared for the fact that they're going to pressure me and such, it's just a bit of pre-meeting jitters for me now.
  23. Interestingly enough my current reading choice is going into willpower. Just remember that it's like a muscle and it's getting stronger everyday.
