  1. I did it for the first time this year - by far the most fun race (I did the half) I've ever participated in. It was a great time, I plan to do it again in a few years.
  2. Geez, the Dumbo is sold out Registering for the half now. Shoot.
  3. Wow, the Dumbo Double Dare is $320! That's about what our plane tickets would be! Seriously considering it though, that's a lot of medals...
  4. Hmm, that's not bad. I wish there were a 'Dopey Light' - run all but the marathon.
  5. Yeah - I'm more than a little tempted to go for the Coast to Coast. A long weekend in LA in August would not be a bad thing at all... and the medals are so nice!
  6. very well thanks - I wrote a big blog post about it: http://www.slowroad.net/races/disney-world-half-marathon-january-11/
  7. Lifting at the gym this morning, plus 15 minutes of rowing. I've never used the two Concept 2 rowing machines at this gym, it was quite nice. I did an upper body routine (3 sets of 10 each), planks (normal and side), Russian twists with a 6-lb ball, and Bosu 100's for core. I also do 3 sets of 10 each on the leg press (two feet and one foot) and seated curl. My calves are feeling a lot better today. I had waffles and bananas for breakfast after
  8. December 21 - indoor 3-mile track run with the last Magic Mile. Today was the last Magic Mile (time trial mile) before the half in January. Funny but I did it in the exact same time as 2 weeks ago – 10:16. That was all-out for me, and pretty good considering my calves are still sore from Tuesday. I went to 3.12 miles today and a time of 35:10, 3 seconds slower than my last 5k. The track goes above the weight room and the pool. The pool side was so hot today – I’ll bet it was 82F easily over there. It was hard to run in that as the workout went along. Based on the three Magic Miles my race pace will be 13:20.
  9. December 19 - pool run. My calves were very very sore from the long run Tuesday (which was odd because I was taking very short, quick steps and wore my calf compression sleeves) so this pool run felt really good. I’ve been doing a lot of Stick this week to try to work out that soreness. I did the ladder workout in the pool this morning: 1 min easy alternating with 1 minute hard for 20 minutes30 seconds easy alternating with 30 seconds sprint for 10 minutes
  10. December 17 - Long run. I’ve been working out inside during the deep freeze we had recently – I tried an outside run a few days ago but there was still too much ice out there for me to feel comfortable. So today was a nice change, it’s gotten very warm in the last couple of days. I decided to run on the Power Trail since it’s in the sun, it only crosses I think 3 roads, and there was likely to be less ice, if any. I was right about that, I only encountered 2-3 icy patches on the whole run. The Power Trail is about 5-ish miles from end to end, and my plan was to run down and back and then do a bit more at the end (the goal was 12 miles for the day). My long run 2 weeks earlier was really crappy due to my own screwups so today I was careful to stay at my target slow pace (about 13:30-14:00) and walk consistently 1 minute out of five. I did both. It was about 25F when I started and I had my hydration pack so could shed the arm warmers and long-sleeve top as needed. The run down was nice, no problems. When I got to the south end I was a bit over 5 miles (due to where I’d parked) and decided to run through the neighborhood there to pick up a bit more distance. The neighborhood is a hill – very steep hill. I ran up and down and back to the south trailhead, that put me at about 5.6 or 5.7 miles. The run back was harder. I kept on pace and run/walk schedule, but didn’t get to 12 miles, I topped out at 11.11 when I reached the car. That’s all I had that day, plus I was stressing about work since it was a Tuesday and I normally do long runs on the weekend. Overall, a much better run than the last long run. One more to go before the half in January, the next one is 14 miles.
  11. Catching up on entries here. December 11 - Treadmill hill run. 31 minutes on the treadmill, no zombies today – I just watched the news, which was scarier. Today I increased the incline by .5 every five minutes. No problems with the ankle, except some tenderness on stretching as usual. Average pace 13:38 today (kind of slogging up those hills) and total distance of 2.26.
  12. It was around zero again this morning so I went to the gym to do my Magic Mile and the other two miles. This was the second of three time trial miles leading up to the half on January 11 per the Galloway plan. Today was good - I did the first mile in 10:16 (better than the 10:29 I did two weeks ago) and the last mile at 10:15. If I'd thought, I would have gone 0.12 miles further and smoked my 5k time for this year, but I failed to think and started walking at 3 miles. My time was 32:49, and my best 5k this year back in the summer was 35:07. I could have shaved 2 minutes off that! Happy with the run today! Two more long runs, one more Magic Mile and I'll be at the half. And in warm, sunny (maybe) Florida, away from this Colorado winter.
  13. I'll keep that in mind and make one of my short runs a hill run each week...
