  1. Been lurking on the site for a while. I'm in southern Ontario. Currently living in Kitchener-Waterloo, but i've travelled around a bit over the past few years. Always happy to say hey to some other Canadians.
  2. Hey all. I've been lurking for a while. I think a 6 week challenge is a great way to keep myself motivated. I constantly "binge and purge" as it were on fitness type stuff. Gym for 2 months, then dont go for a motnh here and there. So for the next 6 weeks I want to remain focused. Goal 1. Keep up with gym program and record it all. Like I said I tend to wander off the path. I also work a strange schedule that keeps me on an 8 day cycle. so out of the next 6 weeks it's just over 5 of my 8 day cycles. I work a physical job so only two of my off days I hit the gym. A - 11+ gym sessions. This is above and beyond what is planned B - 10 gym sessions. C - 9 sessions D - 8 F - less than 8, meaning I missed the equivalent of a whole week Goal 2. Increase my weekly running Mileage. I love running, I enjoy the time to myself. I also just recently turned 26, so I figure this is the year to do a full Marathon. As such I need to increase my weekly mileage (or kilometerage??) I usualy am between 15-20km a week right now so we will use 15km as the baseline A - steady 10% each week, meaning up to 24km in week 6. B - 22km in week 6 C - 20km in week 6 D - 18km in week 6 F - less than 18km in week 6 Goal 3. Cut out the Alcohol for 6 weeks. While this will be impossible to cut out completely. I Make beer for a living and am required to taste it from time to time. What I can do, is not drink socially. This one will be hardest to put to a scale so im not going to, I'm just got to keep my head down and do it. Goal 4. De clutter house. Me and my wife both work a lot. Our house while it isnt dirty, it is very unorganized. I'm going to set away 2 hours a week to burn through a room and get rid of some of the junk that accumulates. Bits of paper, receipts, odds and ends. For instance, I will start with my kitchen counter as soon as i'm done posting this. Why is there 3 vials of used yeast on there from work? Who knows, but they're in the recycling right now! Looking forward to the challenge everybody. Cheers!
  3. @eliz being a craft beer fan can certainly take it's toll. I track everything in myfitnesspal and make sure my beer can fit into my daily goals. There are times where I do go overboard, like last night when I was judging the Ontario Brewing Awards, but don't let one day get you down. It's fairly easy to "drink your calories" so moderation is key.
  4. My work days tend to be my short work out. Brewing is somewhat physically challenging. Up and down ladders with 55lb sacks of grain, dragging around hoses filled with water, holding awkward poses to inspect and clean something etc...I do a little bodyweight stuff in the morning, and am trying to get in some HIIT on work days. The real challenge is diet. Alcohol is great in moderation. A few local people have started the idea of "paying the beer tax". Working out and eating right, to counter balance the consumption of craft beer. Also emphasizing the quality over quantity rule. I will certainly be checking out the next 6 week challenge
  5. Heyo! Figured i'd drop an introduction thread since i've been lurking this site for the past few weeks. I really enjoy the concept of Leveling up your life. I'm only a casual gamer, sci-fi and fantasy fan, but that concept gives a good starting point. Basically asking myself "is what im doing right now making me a better me?" My real geekdom comes from beer and brewing. I am a professional brewer which obviously has it's own challenges when it comes to fitness. I currently work fairly exhausting 12hr shifts, 4 on 4 off. I'm working on making those less exhausting by improving my overall fitness. On my off days I hit the gym for 2 full body workouts, focusing on compound lifts. I also really enjoy running so I try to get a run in here and there when I can. Anyways looking forward to hopefully meeting some like minded individuals and we all work on our own personal goals. Cheers
