  1. So got out and ran/walk (mostly walked) about 2 miles today. Talked my son into going with me, I guess he got inspired because when he got home he started researching different races, and actually signed up to volunteer for the Spartan Race in two weeks. I'm excited for him.
  2. Hi all! Native Coloradoan here, so proud especially on beautiful days like today. I'm new to this site, and exercise in general, started doing the C25K and plan to run the Firefly 5K in July. I turned my son onto this site, and he got really excited about the Spartan Race, and Tough Mudder, which he is going to do in June. I'm thrilled because up until now the only thing he showed interest in was his XBox, so it's huge that he actually went out and ran today. I'm so grateful to have found this site, it has helped inspire and educate me on this journey of health. So thanks all and good luck to all you rebels out there!!!
  3. So i started my journey to a healthy me, and well I guess I did ok. I got out and exercised four days this week, was planning on running today but my Aunt Flo showed up and I really couldn't muster it. I've been reading other posts on how they ran 5 miles or warmed up with a 5K. Will I really get to the point where I can run longer than a minute without dying. I know I'm extremely out of shape, and getting started is the hardest part and my hormonal mind is playing self-degrading tricks on me, I just can't visualize this other me. In the past it was always about losing weight, and I gave myself a couple months, and I was usually successful, but never maintained it. This time it's for my total health five years from now, different goal, different timeline, different attitude. I'm hoping that with the right reason and realistic timeline I can get there. My plan has other life factors in it, like, mental well-being, social, and financial. It's one thing to look for work, it's another to know your qualified, know your resume is effective, have interview for fantastic jobs, but then never get them. Basically it's like saying "you're good but not good enough." I'm just not sure how many rejections I can take, I was hoping that focussing on something else would make the other stuff fall in line, or at least let me forget about it for a second. Anyway enough whining...
  4. I just downloaded RunDouble for android. It is specifically for c25K, does the interval timing, allows you to upload your own playlists. It has a ton of other features as well. I'm using it tomorrow for the first time, I'll let you know more then.
  5. I've heard this is amazing at flushing toxins out of your system, I haven't tried it yet but am eager too. In a hot (as hot as you can stand it) bath add 1 pint Hydrogen peroxide and 2 tbsp ground ginger. It really makes you sweat and since it's removing toxins, you will have to pee a lot, but a friend of mine swears by it. Let me know how it works if you try it.
  6. Okay, a little revision is needed for my goals 1. I have exercised 5 out of seven days, which is good, however the 2 mile run seems a stretch, so I'm changing it to 1.5 miles. I just don't know how fast I will build my endurance, and I think lowering the distance and reaching that goal will work better on my psyche than not being able to achieve my first goal. 2. I've decided to not do the Paleo diet as of yet. However I am limiting my dairy, carb and sugar intake. 3 and 4 stay the same. Similar to the grading system everyone has, I created a rubric for my goals.
  7. What a great motivation your are!!! I came to the same epiphany (love that word) only I'm 45. I have a lot of undoing to do for my 5 Year Plan but all my goals I can control, and some will just happen as I reach others. I bet that by the time you reach 175 lbs you won't be so shy anymore. Keep it up, I can't wait to see how you do over the next year.
  8. Panczo, I should have phrased that differently. I have my goals for each year, then I break it down. example: Year 1 My physical fitness goal is pretty broad. Just be in shape enough to start training for a major event like a marathon or triathlon in 5 years. Being that I'm a couch potato, that's a challenge. I am doing the C25K plan, this six week challenge is to run 1.5 miles (no walking) I had it at 2 miles, but I don't think I can do that yet. The next six weeks I hope to get to 5K, I want to participate in the Firefly 5K at the end of July. A year seems a long way away, even more so five, it's my nature to procrastinate. By making goals every six weeks, I stay in the present, but focused on the big picture. (that's the hope anyway)
  9. Yes, but I think my goals need to be revised. Also, when i read others goals they have all these grading scales and points assigned, I think this challenge will be more of . a learning experience, if anything. How, about you?
  10. My epiphany came to me sometime last week. I'm 45, only been in great shape 2 or 3 times in my life, my diet is a free for all and I have no passion for anything in my life. If I continue down this path I'm gonna be a mess when I'm 50. I don't want to feel this way anymore, I can't live this way anymore. So...I have five years to get healthy so I can be fabulous when I'm 50. I've been listing my goals for 5 years, each year, every 12 wks and every 6 wks, from all aspects of my life; fitness, diet, mental health, financial, and social. I stumbled across this website when researching my goals and it was a perfect fit, clearly I was meant to find it. I know the "f@#k it's" will get in the way, often in the beginning. In fact today was one of them, I woke up tired and sore and nothing seemed to function smoothly, I came up with 10 reasons not to go for a run, but I went anyway, I would love to say I felt much better afterward, but I feel the same, except less guilt. I know I won't feel so blah forever and I certainly didn't feel any worse afterward, so I know I can do this. So I survived today and managed to fulfill my daily goals so it's all good!
  11. I started the C25K, and it's going pretty well. The running part of it is a lot easier than I thought, but when I walk I get horrible pain in my shins, it doesn't bother me when I run, but walking is excruciating. Any ideas why and suggestions how to relieve this.
  12. hey griphon, Does it seem like too much? I did read the post you are talking about, maybe I'm just too excited. The job thing I'm obviously already doing, just not as regimented. I might take your advice on the running 2 miles, after today's workworkout, 2 miles seems like a lot. I have done weight watchers a bazillion times, so I'm using their measurements. 1 cup of milk is one serving, one slice of bread is one serving, rice, pasta 1/2 cup, etc. Have you posted your goals? Calliope
  13. So excited about this site and the goals I've set. I think they're SMART, but I'm sure there is s to be made. All of this is new, necessary. Goals 1. Run/walk 3X week. I'm following the C25K plan, when I accomplish this challenge, i should be able to run (not walk) 2 miles. 2. Start Paleo-diet. limiting my intake of dairy, grains, and sugars to 5 servings of each a week. 3. Meditate at least 5 days a week. 4. Send out at least 2 resumes a day, M-F, hopefully landing a job fore the challenge is up. I hope these sound ok, I feel pretty confident that I can achieve them. If anyone has suggestions PLEASE l me.
