  1. So I'm thinking of buying a bike but I have no idea what to get. Work is about 6 miles away, takes place overnight, and involves physical labor, so I doubt I'd be doing much bike commuting there. I might ride to the grocery store and things like that sometimes. Mostly I just want something to ride around for pleasure. I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood and near a major trail. Most of the trail is paved, but some of the farther-flung parts are gravel, and I may get ambitious and go fo a weekend biking trip at some point, you never know. I had an older model of this bike before and liked it fine: https://www.harobikes.com/mtb/bikes/fixies/2013-projekt I'd consider purchasing another if that seems like a reasonable choice, but it's awful expensive if there are better options. I really don't know anything about bikes at all, other than that I enjoy the feeling of riding, so any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Rebels!
  2. Ugh, I'm sorry to hear. That's awful Let us know when you find out. Pets with serious health concerns is almost more difficult than human family, in ways.
  3. I'm pretty damn rusty myself, but I'm going to stalk/pop in. I miss it. We should totally learn to talk about fitness things!
  4. I'm officially ashamed! My adult dog used to be trained to do the very basics, but when we got the puppy he was like "nope". So now we have 2 rotten brats until I figure that out. I would like to do agility with at least one of them eventually. Step one: You each have your own name, please stop responding to both!
  5. A search didn't turn up anything super relevant sooooo... How many nerds out there have dogs? Anybody into training beyond basic obedience? Share pics and stories! Mine:
  6. Berries drowned in heavy cream you guys. Holy. Sheet. Ice cream used to be my weakness but no longer! Also, I have a recipe for avocado chocolate truffles that's awesome when made with super dark chocolate. Yes that results in a bit of sugar, but it's not too bad too indulge in every now and then.
  7. I have the same issue as mentioned above: droopy and lopsided. :/ So I haven't thought about implants much, but a bit more perkiness and evening out is something I'll probably do in the future. I say whatever makes you happy/comfortable. If you're doing it for you I don't see a problem.
  8. I started what I think will be a fun form of battle log on tumblr. I made up a character and a bit of back story, and will be writing little snippets of story here and there based on my training successes (or lack thereof). I'll have plenty of plain old workout logs too, but I doubt I'll be able to post daily. Anyway battle log can be found at: 5orrel.tumblr.com
  9. I definitely need to get a slow cooker next time there's a little space in the budget. Coming home to chili already made would be amazing. It hadn't occurred to me to use the puppy as a workout trigger but that's a fantastic idea! I foresee lots of push-ups in the next month or so. xD
  10. As evidenced by this post, my problem is that I'm so busy I forget to log on and check in. I never manage to keep in touch and build a real support network within the community. The people here are great, but I'm awful about connecting.
  11. Thank you both for the support. I think the main way I'm going to tackle things is by having one active goal at a time in each of the areas I'm working on. (So one work, one home life, and one health). My current home life goal pretty much has to be house training our puppy because obviously nothing needs to take precedence until that is accomplished. So that's simple for a couple months. Work is also simple, as I'm in limbo waiting on my supervisor to make some decisions. Health is harder. I can focus on food or on working out. I enjoy working out a lot more than paying attention to food, but food is going to do more for me in the long run I know...
  12. I've been here before, shamefully fell off the wagon. So here I am for another try, with plans to do it smarter this time around. About me: 25, married, with one child. Currently 5'7" and ~165lbs. Functional strength seems okay, no idea what my lifting weights are anymore. I work an unpredictable second shift. (4pm to 2 or 2.30 am Mon through Fri, with weekends up in the air until Friday afternoon. During the summer I work most Saturdays and some Sundays). I have 2 dogs, a child, and just bought a house. Time is my enemy. I have so many goals and so many wants to deal with that prioritizing cooking and health is REALLY hard. That's what tripped me up last time I was here. I'm determined to finally get it right and get my life in order though. Here's to the rebellion!
  13. Wow you guys, this quitting thing is HARD. Tonight's attempted substitute is going to be calling home on one break and working on a project on the other. We'll see how my willpower holds out. The deal I've made with myself is that I'm still allowed my limit of cigarettes, I just have to have them after work.
  14. Well, I essentially failed the entire first week. I walked the dog... when it wasn't raining and I woke up in time. The life challenge I did manage every day. Smoking, I went over my limit all but one day at work, 0 cigarettes for the weekend. Work is where the smoking habit is so ingrained that I can't seem to not do it. My habit isn't a nicotine addiction, because at home I never even think about smoking, and I don't get cranky without them. It's just purely a social habit triggered by breaks at work. I'm considering trying an e-cig minus the cartridge thing as a substitute habit. That way I'll be holding something cigarette-like and so on, and then maybe I can slowly sub in some completely different habit. Any thoughts on that?
  15. You know, I actually like the notepad idea much better than doing it electronically.
