  1. Thanks! I think I got it. There were a few in there with intern topic names. Salacious. Sensual. Supercalifragusomething. 😂
  2. Thanks for sharing this from FB! I hadn't had a chance to make it back here with updated information.
  3. Hey all! Just updated the forums' software! If you see any issues or if anything is out of whack, please just let me know and I'll get it patched up as soon as possible. (Or in other words... This is my first software update on the forums and I hope I made Staci proud... but if not I'm ready with the utility belt to ensure things work right!)
  4. Hey all! The NF Team recently did a pretty significant overhaul to the website. I know some of the plug-ins to the back end they used for XP and character quests were not working with some of the new changes. They were correcting a few things, like epic quests, and getting as much back up as possible. The academy may still work because it is on a slightly different configuration than the main site (I think). There's not an attempt to put some of these things behind a paywall or anything like that, rather just trying to move to some newer platforms/designs and losing a bit of older capabilities. I'll reach out to see if there is an ETA for some of the character pages getting brought back.
  5. +1 for the AoS reference! I have another trip planned for 9 days in April. After that I will have a month off of work travel, but some vacation time planned out. I expect a few more bursts of 7-14 days at a time throughout the year. Probably not as much during the second half of the year. I really need to find a better rhythm when traveling for sure. I'm usually with a group that works long days and then everyone goes out to a big dinner and drinks. I love the social/team building aspect, but it is at the sake of my health goals, so I may just have to be "that guy" and go to the hotel gym instead of dinner Thanks!!!
  6. Hey all! I'm a bit behind on posting my goals. Work has been crazy. I'm doing a lot of traveling. And I'm tired. In short, I've really just been apathetic to my fitness goals this year. It hasn't been a priority and I've not really cared about it being a priority in my day to day. I justify why skipping my workout is ok so quickly and easily these days. Same with eating healthy. Though when I zoom out on life like you do when you start a new challenge like this, I realize that it needs to be a priority. I feel so much better both physically and mentally when I put my health first. So this challenge is going to have an extra focus on Apathy negation. I'm going to try to find / rediscover the joy in the process. And this challenge, my main focus is to bring in a bit more community/friendship to my workouts. So here we go! Goal 1: Do 1 Activity with friends or a group each week I love doing things with friends, but I have been in a terrible funk when it comes to making any plans or committing to activities. I do things, but planning things out just seems daunting these days. "I can't tell you if I'm free next week because who knows what may come up!" But I need to start actively trying to lock down fun plans and stick to them. So here are some of my options: Weekly Pickleball (I know a group that plays on Wednesdays and a group on Saturdays and have been invited to both. Just need to go.) I want to start running with a group again. I'll probably start with the local Hash group because that is super low-stakes. I have a group at work that is also going for runs, but I'm a bit slower than them. I will join them at least one time over this challenge though, even if I fall behind or have to turn back early Try a group fitness class at the gym. Just something to get me to interact with people more. Probably yoga or one of the Body Pump classes. Goal 2: Find a Gym Buddy / Accountability Buddy Taking my son and his friends to the gym makes me realize how much I miss having a gym buddy. It makes the time in the gym fly by. But it's hard nowadays as most of my friends schedules don't line up with mine or our fitness levels are out of sync or we just don't go to the same gym. But even if I could have a single weekly hangout session around some heavy weights with a friend, that would make me happy. (Full disclosure, this is a goal that I want and need, but I am 100% sure I will stress out having a gym partner because I'm terrible at managing a consistent schedule and I become very socially awkward when I think they are frustrated at me for being terrible at managing a consistent schedule). Goal 3: Have more fun with my workouts Once a week - I want to just have fun with a workout. Let's call it Sunday Funday! A nerdy themed workout A new movement / piece of equipment Some silly goal. Goal 4: Meal Prep This is not a community/buddy goal. I just need to control my meals more. I hope everyone has a great challenge! I'll try to follow along as much as I can and check in!
  7. Greetings rebels, far and wide! Pull up a chair and join us for the kick off of a new Challenge! The year is still young and a new challenge is always on the menu at the rebellion. I hope you last challenge was fantastic! And if not, I hope you continue to join us in the challenges to refresh and try again. As always, some links: Challenge How-to (Updated 12/28/2023) 2024 Challenge Dates General forum rules and guidelines Guilds, Clubs, Adventure Parties, and PVPs And... It's become a long-standing tradition for me to add a bonus theme/thought to each challenge based on a recent email/post from team Nerd Fitness (and by long-standing, I mean I did it last challenge and will again do it this challenge... long-standingly of course). Steve's recent email spent some time talking about how throughout our life, we start to become more like the people we spend the most time with. I look back on my personal goals and can tie a direct correlation in my successes (and my failures) to the people in my life while I was working towards them. Who you surround yourself with, who you look up to, and who you trust to push you can drastically shape your journey along the way. So as you are enjoying drinks around the table of the Rebel's Roost Tavern and crafting your epic adventure's quests, think about how you can shape your path by who you select to be in your party. Can you enlist a friend to go on your daily walks with so you will be more eager to step out the door? Can you join a class so you will have a community to support you? Can you tailor your online / social media presence so you see more posts from people who inspire you? Can you use this very group to help drive you and keep you on track? What's something that you can do help you immerse in the people / groups / communities that drive you to be a better you? I hope this challenge is the start of some beautiful friendships and some crushed goals! Cheers!
  8. Hey all! A quick Sunday update (I missed last week). I have been off a bit from what I want to be doing. Here's a rough estimate of where I am on my goals: Move one mile - About 50% on this one. Lot's of days got away from me, but I didn't totally fall apart. Drink 3L of water - About 75% on this. And on the days I missed it, I was still 2L plus. Not beating myself up much here. Quick kettlebell swing break... ... and I'm back Read 10 pages - 100% if you count audio books. About 90% otherwise. Track food - This is where I fell apart. Only about 15% completion here. And I've had a few rough days of eating for sure. I'm aiming to really improve here because I've sort of lost my natural sense how many calories I'm eating... And girl scout cookie season isn't helping that. On a positive note - I've been at the gym three days in a row! Usually I'll get a quick bodyweight workout in at home, but my son and his friends have been dragging me out and I've got in some great sessions thanks to their pestering encouragement. Though I'm definitely sore from the extra load. Also, we're doing the 31 Day Challenge in the Journey app (and here too if you want to join). I chose Burpees. Why? I don't know. I hate burpees, but there's only one way to improve them.
  9. Thanks for sharing Everstorm! And to add to that, if you want to start on "Day 1" today, there is a tracking spreadsheet you can join that will tell you what you need to do each day, even if you join in today, next week, or even at the end of March
  10. Day 2 Done for me! 3 more burpees this month so far than I normally do!
  11. Hey all! We are running a featured adventure in the Journey app call the 31 Day Habit Challenge! But I wanted to extend the challenge out to the entire Nerd Fitness Rebellionverse beyound those that are just Journey App users! The challenge is simple: Pick a movement! The app features a burpee or squat option, but this can be any movement you want - push-ups, lunges, minutes walked, etc. Do one repetition of that movement starting on March 1st Increase the number of reps by 1 each day (basically, whatever day in March it is, do that number of reps) Keep the streak going!! In the app we have always have a story/RPG based approach to building habits (because we're nerds). This adventure is all about testing out the Rebellion's new state-of-the-art training room (think X-Men's Danger Room) where you have to defeat increasingly hard battle robots that well test you on the common pitfalls of starting and maintaining new habits. Did I mention that the battle robots are terribly cute bunnies called "Habit Rabbits" (because rhyming!)? This first week, we have to overcome Spinertia! If you would like to join in the challenge and represent the Forums Faction of the Nerd Fitness Rebellion, you can use our Community Tracking Spreadsheet! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TKvwgPBsmwMJn8SnvewY9qzzzAOFLs_zLo0eQlDWGCg/edit?usp=sharing Happy Burpeeing Rebels!
  12. This seems logical! Have a happy Kolinahr!!! No wait... that doesn't make sense... Have a Kolinahr. (there... much more Vulcan)
  13. I second L&L and the prequel Bookshops and Bonedust as well. Just a fantastic read! I never read "cozy" books before that, but now I want to mix those in between each heavy book or long series.
  14. Got the W on the bot filter!! Also happy to see another puzzle nerd! So many great puzzle lessons for life - whenever I'm overwhelmed I often think about how the beginning of a puzzle feels. So man pieces in utter chaos, but if you just put in the work to flip and organize and find the patterns and then work one piece at a time - one section at a time - you can make a beautiful picture out of the chaos. Trust the process Following along.
  15. This reminds me of this threads post from Steve I also struggle with this. I have to parent myself sooo much All your goals are great BTW! Following along.
  16. That's a great idea. Not a full block or app delete (which is hard when you use the same apps for good things), but just one extra unit of effort/awareness to slow you down from falling into the doomscrolling trap sounds like a great plan. I'm super interested in knowing how this works for you over thee week. Following along.
  17. Checking in! Hydration: ✅ Late start to the water (1pm), but 3L down and I'm floating. Tracking: ✅ Though I didn't do great as I got caught in a snack attack at work with some "office goodies." But I'm aware and can go into my night knowing where I stand and that's the main goal. Reading: ✅ Just finished the Pawn's Gambit by Darrin Kennedy this morning while waiting for the kids to get ready for school. Looking for my next read (probably the second book in that series unless anything on my TBR screams louder) Moving: ❌ Though I did 2 miles yesterday. I had a few appointments and busy day back in the office after being on travel for 2 weeks and I just missed my normal window. I still may get up and walk a mile here in a few minutes, but I need to finish up some NF Journey App things first and am 100% ok missing today. In other news - I went to the gym yesterday and got a great KB workout in. But more importantly, I brought my 14yo son with me to get his first gym membership (he's on the right)! I usually work out at home, but he has a bunch of friends that go to the same gym as me and wanted to start lifting more! Excited for him and I will 100% selfishly use his desire to go to the gym to drag my lazy butt there as well
  18. Yep... Looks like we're set up to only allow image posting for a little more established members... but the post content count needed looks pretty low, so a few comments/reactions/posts should get them there!
  19. And thanks to everyone following along. I just got back from my two week work trip late friday night. Celebrated my daughter's 17th Birthday with family in town yesterday. And today, I'm now planning out my week ahead and ready to attack this challenge!
  20. Additional alliterations are absolutely anticipated. You made it work! 🤣 Yes... That is absolutely a problem for me too. The notifications become noise when that happens. But, I'll still try it Yeah, I know a lot of people struggle with tracking and it can trigger all sorts of things. I've been lucky that it is usually only helpful for me. I don't hyper-focus on it, but the awareness really helps make smarter decisions on snacks and portion sizes... as well as force me to plan and prep ahead more because I don't want to have to guess on how much I ate. Why does that never work!?! I would be so productive if I completed the things I said "I'll do right after this..." Well now I need to be on the lookout for silly out-of context quotes and highlights
  21. Hi all! This is my first challenge in... 6 years? Which that was my first challenge in... 7 years? So it's been a while. But I'm here now! Though in my research of when my last challenge was, I realized I was a part of NF Forum Challenge #2! Should've internetted harder and discovered NF 2 weeks earlier to claim founder status . Where I'm starting: I have been in a very inconsistent state with my health and fitness. I've been on work travel for two weeks, which has thrown off my schedule and eating routine completely. But I'm flying home tomorrow and should get back to a reasonable schedule. But even before that I was all over the place - I'd get a great lift session in two days straight and then miss a week. I'd meal prep and eat healthy for a week and then fall apart late at night. My Plan: So my plan this challenge is four simple daily goals: Move one mile - run, walk, skip, griddy, whatever. Just move my body 1 mile. Drink 3L of water - gotta get that H20 in Read 10 pages - Any book, any genre, just read instead of scroll (unless the scrolling is my kindle app) Track food - Full tracking preferably, but even a nightly check in to what I ate would suffice All of these are simple and achievable every day. And most of which are "just do it now" type of actions. If I think about doing my daily tasks, I probably just can just something right then to make progress. All in all, it should take 30 minutes at most out of my day, and that time is easily integrate-able into my natural breaks/idle time. I have other goals and workouts to do, but these are the simple ones I want to hit EVERY day. In the general chat, I mentioned reflecting on past goals you've struggle with and reflect on how you can attack it slightly differently... Tracking my food has always been a powerful tool for me. I don't even have to intentionally change anything about my diet, but the hyper awareness of my day's intake naturally helps shape my actions towards healthier eating. My only problem is I forget to track or just get lazy at night and don't... which often leads to late night snacking choices not being in line with my goals. So to change up a bit on how I attack this goal - I've turned back on notifications for MFP so it will ping me when I haven't tracked my food. And I have set up a reminder at 9:00pm to remind me to track (or just stop and think about my food intake). I also want to be be more intentional with my walking so I get it in earlier in the day and I'm not scrambling at 11 o'clock at night to fit in a walk/run while avoiding waking my wife up or making a dog bark or - dun dun dun - skipping my walk altogether. So I scheduled an 11:30 meeting in my work calendar three days a week to go for a walk (would have done 5 days, but some people seem to like actual meetings during lunch). The meeting with myself to walk is officially on the books. My time is blocked off. Can't stop me. I'll update here at least weekly. Maybe daily. Not sure yet. Maybe I should be more intentional at setting that task I'm excited to join you all in this challenge!
  22. I totally RES - Really Enjoy SET! Or you could say RESET.... I totally RES - Really Enjoy SET! Or you could say RESET... I totally... [oh no I'm stuck in a wordplay loop] I love the simple goals!
  23. What are some of your favorite mobility videos that you've save recently? I struggle so much with my mindset around my time. Maybe similar to you I will spin in circles when I don't have a looming deadline, but I can't enjoy the time or relax because I know I "should be doing things". How are you planning on attacking this? I have had decent success recently scheduling things out a bit more... I'll spend 30 minutes doing X, 30 minutes doing Y, and the I'll read a book for an hour guilt free, It works about 20% of the time.
  24. The capital Z makes this the perfect level of intensity! I love all of these. I'll be joining you in casting some Cure Wounds this weekend!
  25. Oof I feel this. I'm not sure if this exactly what you are going through, but I'm in a phase of life where I'm just tired and general apathy bursts onto the scene for things - fitness, hobbies, etc. It's tough. I think it's a phase of like thing, but I'm trying to break free of it. I'm really working to keep things as simple as possible and focus on the bigger wants and just letting some things fall off. It's not going well Did I mention I'm tired? All your goals and musings sound amazing though! I'll be here to cheer you on and give you whatever encouragement you need! (But apologies in advance, I will still go easy on you if you report in that you are struggling. Can't help it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
