  1. One pie day? Pffft. It's not like you blew the whole day, you had one "bad" thing (love that mantra Mitch!). And holy crap Leksifer I hope you're wearing a helmet! For the love of being able to think, be wearing a helmet!! As a big guy (falling can do more damage) who has had a series of bike accidents and other falls, READING your bike speed made my heart rate and blood pressure skyrocket haha. The hand numbness definitely dies out, your hands need to get used to the weird angles and pressure is all. You're doing great! Next time you eye some pie, imagine one of your fellow bats just smushing it with their hand and flipping the pie plate over in disgust. Can't help you with the wine. I drink when I hike lol.
  2. Dude, don't worry about that gain at all. weighing daily is a way to drive your stress levels through the roof and make you panic over a "wonky bit of dinner that is lingering". I.E: "trying not to read too much into it" is a thing you're doing now. Maybe just do once weekly weigh ins and not look at your weight at all during the rest of the week? Great job with the sleep (even though it's not a goal, still good!). Good luck with the run! (12k. I can't even.)
  3. ^beat me to it haha. Also what Arkham said! Sucks that you got injured, especially this early. Don't push yourself on that shoulder at all, take it easy and take patch's advice on the replacement exercises. Maybe the squats could replace your push-ups goal wise until you're healed so you don't fall behind just because of an injury?
  4. Halfway to your checkpoint is awesome Vortex, great job! make up those missed miles on the weekend for sure, you're doing so good! YES. Routine and regularity should lead to consistent effort which should lead to results and progress!
  5. Hello fellow rebels! I'm still a super n00b at this whole fitness thing, but I'm interested in parkour for future challenges. Specifically parkour in the woods/ on trails/ on mountain bike trails. I've seen tons of parkour videos of people in cities, but the only videos I see of woods parkour seem to be urban runners doing a one-off interesting video in the woods (or an Assassin's Creed 3 cosplay in the woods). I mean I'm, 6'3", 270 lbs, and I can't really run, but like I said, this is for the next challenge (or later) once I condition myself a bit. I'm not looking to do flips and the acrobatic stuff (which I hear isn't "real" parkour anyway), I just want to run through the woods like a direwolf at some point, and go wherever the hell I want. So parkour folk (assassins?)! Is this a thing any of you do? Do you know anyone who does this? If yes to either, got any tips?
  6. So day 4. FOOD: Breakfast: -2 glasses of water. -Bottle of water. -2 paleo pancakes (a banana and egg mashed together to get 2 pancakes) with maple syrup (because Canada) -3 slices of ham sandwich meat. Lunch: -Assorted meat sub (horrible gas station kind ). -Bottle of water. Throughout work: -3 more bottles of water. -The same steak and cheese sub from yesterday. Biking home snack: -Apple. Late night meal (snack?): -2 boneless skinless chicken breasts. -Bottle of water. EXERCISE: Well today was almost a lazy day. Almost. Early rise this morning to drive dad to work so I stayed up and biked to the store to buy bananas, a newspaper, and a bottle of water (17 min roundtrip total). Played some Skyrim because Skyrim, and ended up taking a half hour nap right on the couch. I didn't want to move. At all. But then I saw the FotB walking into the rec-room, seeing me napping/ being lazy, and collectively shouting "WTF SILAS GET UP!". I hopped up, and did the BBW circuit straight away with a 10 minute stationary bike warm up and stretches after (both of which I'm counting as part of the circuit btw). Then I biked to work (7 minutes) and biked home (~12 minutes). So all totaled for today: 1 BBW circuit, 36 minutes biking, completely failing on the heavy bag, hike was already done. I'll get the heavy bag tomorrow or over the weekend though, promise! SAVING: I should be able to cash that check tomorrow, at which point I will be depositing a large chunk of it into savings (long story, but I definitely need to purchase a light for my bike haha). Updates to follow! Having lunch/ coffee with a friend tomorrow so we'll see how that goes food wise and hopefully getting a pro beard trim at a great downtown shop if I can get an appointment (new attitude deserves new beard?). Also, just so you guys are aware, in addition to these daily posts I'm updating my first post with overall progress daily as well so It's all nice and in one spot!
  7. Patch: Good point and will do! Taking it slow on the diet is a must for me. I don't crave specific things really, just food in general. I crave quantity. Of basically anything. Leksifer: It IS awesome! Everybody come here! DO IT! lol But seriously though, just looked at mammoth Lakes and it looks even more awesome than here so don't be too jealous haha. Our mountains are on the West coast of the island (~8 hours away), so we just have hills and woods really. Check out Gros Morne and Marble Mountain though! Arkham: Self-experimentation = more hot than creepy haha. I get what you're saying with the diet adjustments. I tried paleo-ish/ gluten-free for a week or so not too long ago and had the same results. Most shocking for me was the alertness. I felt like a fog had lifted. I'll probably make that a goal of mine next challenge, just didn't want to overload myself this time around (it's my first time, i had to be gentle on myself haha). Also, this is a caramel log. It is sugar, and it is the best bar that was ever made ever. Super cheap, super yummy, and basically my one sweet thing I craaaave. As soon as I see them by the checkout, I'll get one. Maybe two. Ben: Appreciate the signal boost to what Arkham said. I'll definitely modify my sub order. Subs are definitely a staple for me. I just need to stop getting the kind that are all processed meat and cheese at the corner store haha. I couldn't substitute the green salad for any of that stuff, just because it was a pre packaged cold plate that I bought from work, at work, but I should just plan ahead and bring a similar lunch. Biking there makes that difficult though. I'll look into alternatives for sure. Cookies I can cut out. Bread? Next challenge I move to gluten free probably, but I'll try to limit it here now.
  8. Way to go resisting the soda during a gaming session Essilore! When we get together for MtG, it's super hard to not eat McDonald's and drink soda for hours on end, so I commend your willpower! You're doing great so far, keep it up!
  9. I read in a prepper forum one time that this guy had visited us folk in Newfoundland and came to the realization that just about everyone here has a prepper mindset because of the outport deal/ our hunting fishing and camping culture/ harsh storms, but "prepping" as a separate activity is not really popular here yet. I also have an urban EDC set up, and a standard loadout for hikes too that has pretty much everything I need in any situation I'm likely to come across during the day at school/ on a hike etc. Not so much into the apocalypse/ huge emergency prepping, but like I said, most of us are prepared for emergencies to a degree around here anyway. I'm fairly confident in my basic survival skills, though my first-aid could use a refreshing. I have a Gerber as my main EDC knife (I love knives too). I picked it up while doing some work as a roadie and haven't looked back. that was what...7 years ago now? It's still kicking and I'd be lost without it!
  10. *single tear of pride rolls down Silas's cheek*
  11. ^this, the bolded especially. Progress comes through perseverance. ^this also. Persevere through these next 5 weeks and you WILL reach your goals. fact.
  12. Yay for feeling sore! (I've been dying since Monday haha). Also good job nailing your paleo goal on Monday! That one cheat day is fine, just watch it for the rest of the week. Can't have you betraying your fellow bats... i don't use any fitness apps at all. Increasingly intrigued by this zombies run deal though. Might check that out, but I really can't run and can't bike that well either so maybe not for me yet haha.
  13. Sad face by the running indicates dissatisfaction with results. Don't get discouraged that you ran 25 minutes today. YOU RAN 25 MINUTES TODAY. Do it again. And again. Next thing you know you'll be telling us you "ran an hour today " haha. Just keep at it man. "Pull-update" ha. Fitness puns. Great job on the decluttering too! Home office tidiness is difficult, glad you're getting it done! FotB!
  14. Good call spitting it out. That's dedication! I'm also really glad it wasn't back into the pot haha. I tried gluten-free/ paleo-esque diet for a week and a half and found a huge jump in overall mood, alertness, and body comfort so I get how it is and am really glad you're sticking to it pretty well! Missing an exercise day is fine, so long as that day counts as your rest day and not just a day you did nothing in addition to your rest day! Little bit confused by your editing numbers...you got four more pages done yes? (sorry, long day haha)
  15. Hey Kilana! Like the goals! Chin-ups and running are things I just cannot do. They're not even on my radar yet, so give yourself some credit! You're all the way at the bottom lol. Also, I agree with WeirdAbbott, great grading scale! It seems well thought out and enough to challenge but still reward you, good job! What's your starting point on these goals? Can you do any chin ups now? How far can you run and in what time?
  16. Of course! Steady progress with those push-ups and negative pull-ups! That's great to hear! 4/7 is totally doable, you got this. Push it out and keep your form disciplined! I'm also impressed with your complete lack of snoozin'. I have been so bad for that lately with my new job schedule/ night hikes/ exhaustion from bothering to move all of a sudden. Becoming a real night owl bat!
  17. We literally have a dictionary of Newfoundland English that's quite sizable and an actual academic work, so I hear you haha
  18. Episode 9....I feel bad for what's about to happen to you haha How'd the yoga and splits go?
  19. Long day 3. FOOD: Breakfast: -Apple with goat cheese. -2 slices of turkey sandwich meat. -A big glass of water. -A glass of organic lemonade. Biking snacks: -1 Tunnock's caramel log. -Small 40 gram bag of french onion Sun Chips. -Bottle of water. Home Snacks: -Bowl of organic corn chips and salsa. -2 glasses of water Supper: -Bottle of water. -3 thin slices of real turkey. -2 slices ham sandwich meat. -Small cup of coleslaw -Small cup of macaroni salad -Small cup of potato salad -A dinner roll. -A chocolate chip cookie. Snacks: -2 more bottles of water After-work "I'M STARVING!!" meal: -6" steak and cheese sub from Subway (Honey Oat bread, monterey jack cheese, steak, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, mayo, honey mustard). -Small piece of one of my brother's cookies -Sip of his diet Coke zero -Glass of water So, I feel like I don't eat horribly but that I eat a LOT of food. Thoughts? And I had some junk today, yes, but I also opted for Subway instead of McDonald's for my late night chow down! They're right next to each other and my brother was planning on getting McD's until I said I was going to get Subway. Also, my work shift is always 3-11 pm, so breakfast is usually 10-12ish, with another meal at work at 5, and then usually something smaller on the bike home or when I get here. Horrible to be eating so late, but that's just the schedule I'm on now. I need to sleep later and eat later to make it through work because work is late. Just for the summer though. Exercise: Biking today! Had to go to the shopping plaza by my house for some stuff so I chose to bike it (7 minutes there, 7 back, about 6 biking to different stores). Then I biked to and from work (7 there, 20 back). The bike home was the hardest. It's uphill and I took the wrong trail a couple times and overshot my house (it was dark, I was tired, don't laugh at me haha). Anyway, I wound up BACK AT THE SHOPPING PLAZA so I had to then bike home from that. My legs feel like chiseled oaks just from the hiking and biking this week (3 DAYS!!). Awesome. So all totaled up, that's 47 minutes that I biked today. Goal exceeded. Kind of. There's no way i can bike for 30 minutes straight. I can on the stationary bike, but I hate it. I want real world activities (hence woods, hiking, biking out of necessity). I'll have to do those 30 minute bike sessions differently. As long as I get those 90 minutes total throughout the week, that'll be good. Should I bump that to 120 minutes total biking in a week since it'll be shorter individual trips? what do you guys think? Saving: Got my first check from the new job today! About $400 for less than full time hours in a week. Can't cash it for a few days, but my first round of saving is incoming! Anyway, I've got to get to the heavy bag at some point this week, twice, and also the BBW 2 more times. Beat, but feeling stronger overall. Pain was horrible today (still is lying in bed) but no meds! I pushed through, but I feel sooooo drained. Need rest now. Can't look back, I've got work to do tomorrow.
  20. Katia: I'll be putting together a strength training and general work out routine focused around building relevant parkour muscles, so I'm looking off other plans for suggested things. The actual parkour moves like I said will have to be kind of left open for other people, but I'll test run some stuff and describe what works for me in what situation so people can have a look and adapt. A direwolf does not conform, a direwolf learns and adapts such that she may dominate all the more efficiently haha. Patch: Thanks for the encouragement and also the link to that pic! I do shift and do similar things, i'll just focus more on changing it up. I learned to not lock my knees a looong time ago (one good thing that came out of warehouse work I guess) haha. But also, the back pain isn't so much from my muscles as it is from pinched nerves and subluxated disks in my back from several accidents, exacerbated by all the extra weight and recent lack of chiropractor visits due to a lack of funds. Hey Kilana nice to meet you! I feel like a tourism promoter, but you should come to Newfoundland if you ever get the opportunity! the heavy bag routine has actually not even happened yet because of soreness and scheduling, but it's basically some Tae Kwon Do-esque sparring against a heavy bag (jabs, elbows, kicks, knees, backfists, dodges, even more kicks). Tracking food definitely helps with the willpower! I work in a gas station with sweets and junk more than readily available. Knowing that I'm posting my food on the internet lets me stroll right past that garbage haha. Thanks for dropping by! I'll check your thread out in a bit now too! Note: day 3 report incoming, too hungry, back later!
  21. How goes the challenge Leksifer? Got an update for us? Your fellow bats are listening for your screeches! lol
  22. That boot camp man... wow. Keep. That. Up. i can't imagine being even as tired as I am and having children to care for. Deep respect for pushing yourself THAT DAMN HARD knowing full well you had kids to deal with later, and owning it like a boss. Well done!
  23. Tell me about it. Do you have any idea how common that word is around here in multiple other senses and contexts? Secret, inappropriate hilarity everywhere now! haha How'd the day wind up Katia?
  24. Glad to have inspired you Katia haha Great idea for a replacement too Arkham! I'd be wary of replacing stuff in your diet plan too often, but on those days when you can't take the craving, carbonated water with some fruit > coke/ coke zero.
