  1. Thanks Katia! Thanks for stopping by Essilore! I've pretty much always lived near the woods because thats just how our island is haha. Even in the capital/ biggest city it's only a quick jaunt down the road to find hikeable woods/ cliffs. Go hike! lol And woods parkour seems to be a thing that regular parkour folk dabble in to make an interesting video, but that's about it. Spent hours looking into it last night, but I think it comes down to just what kind of woods you'll be running in. We don't have very tall, old-growth trees here. We have gnarled, dense woods mostly. Ergo I probably will be using moves like the vault, stride, kong vault, and precision jump more so than anything CLOSE to aerobatics, flips, rolls (in these woods? NOPE!), one legged reach jump, or cat jump (pounce?). Direwolf training program is def in the works now! The wheels of thought are a-spinnin'!
  2. Great job with your progress Essilore! Just keep at 'em and keep moving, you got this! I've recently been drawn to parkour as well, but in the woods lol. I'll be getting into that for the next challenge I think, once I've lost a bit of weight and gained a bit of strength. It looks super fun. And hey, this is nerd fitness, you can totally use your wood elf as a role model haha.
  3. Booo headaches again D: That really blows. Don't worry about the circuit today, migraines are terrible, just relax and try to feel better. You can make it up on another day. Hope it passes soon!
  4. ArkhamWhore, gettin' it done. 3 push-ups even on your knees is waaaaay better than 0 push-ups! Baby steps remember. You will improve as long as you keep at it! When you're doing push-ups/ any exercise, imagine the fellowship around you, shouting encouragement (or getting angry with you for thinking about quitting if that works better lol).
  5. Way to go with the water and choosing to walk for dinner! You gotta push through days like that man, we all want you to kick your goals' asses! Like you said though, you've got a few days to get the running in, just make sure you get it in. We're with you!
  6. So way to destroy all your goals Patch! Reading about your workouts makes me sore haha. And keep off that Coke! Resist! You're doing so good (not even a sip? So Batman!). Whenever you find yourself considering getting some Coke (even Zero), imagine the rest of us standing between you and the vending machine/ cashier looking disappointed and ready to fight. Do you want Coke bad enough to fight your way through the fellowship? To betray your fellow bats? I don't think so. Stay strong! FOTB!
  7. YEEUHH!! Way to go Vortex! Swingin' a sledge (warhammer? ) like it's nothin'! FELL-OW-SHIP! FELL-OW-SHIP! FELL-OW-SHIP!
  8. A backrub would go a long way for sure haha. I have decent shoes, and they have really good standing mats there for us. I can also move around a fair bit, take breaks, tag out with someone else for a bit, etc. Consultations and better shoes/ inserts are expensive, I've looked into it. I've had such a high level of pain for so long now but haven't taken any meds for it that now that I'm actually losing weight and getting stronger I'm going to allow myself some over the counter stuff to help me push through for a few weeks.
  9. That's a crazy workout dude! How do you even move after something like that? Way to kick your second day in the face. Awesome job!
  10. Ok so day two. Food: Breakfast: -Veggie stir-fry (broccoli, red and yellow peppers, onion) on a bowl of rice with sweet chilli Thai sauce -Cashew Larabar -Glass of water Snacks: -Half a popsicle -Extra large green tea milkshake from Bergs Lunch: -Ham and goat cheese sandwich with mayo and BBQ sauce -3 glasses of water Supper: -Small piece of salmon with some goat cheese -3 glasses of water Exercise: No hike today (obv). No biking. No heavy bag. Still not paid so no savings deposited. BBW circuit: 10 minute stationary bike warm-up, and then through the circuit fully in 5 minutes, 2 minute rest, then stretches (SOOOOO tight/ sore from yesterday still). Then, for FotB, I did 5 extra push-ups on my fists straight into another 15 second plank. Feels so awesome, but so sore. Not looking forward to work tomorrow (still not used to standing as a cashier for hours). Also, bit of a downer, my back pain is CRAZY bad today. Definitely need some ibuprofen tomorrow. Hoping to bike to and from work tomorrow, and get a heavy bag session in before work. Katia: Transcendentalism indeed! Though I do like the idea of anarchist collectives more than spread out individualists. Communities and societies can work, but capitalism corrupts human nature. Being in the woods is such a part of our traditional culture here (hunting, fishing, etc) that I think most people have used snowshoes to hike in to a pond or something at least. You should get some and do it this winter! Vortex: If you do, you might be a warg! Now I'm off to work on that direwolf program, read a bit, and drift into sleep.
  11. Early panic seems to be a problem for a lot of us, but just keep at it like you said and you'll get there! Mid July you'll be wondering where all the time went and all that misery, panic, and muscle pain will be a (fond?) memory. Just keep going, keep pushing, and keep on top of those lessons! Consistent effort is what's important. Also, you're not a solo bat so don't despair lol
  12. *ugh double post again tapatalk? Really?*
  13. I actually just used photobucket and got my link from there so I don't know about uploading in this site. That would have made more sense though so I'll probably change that haha.
  14. Leksifer, I live in Mount Pearl in Newfoundland, Canada! This trail is right next to downtown St. John's (the capital) which is like a 15-20 minute car ride from my house. Mount Pearl is basically a suburb of St. John's now. Mountain man title = massive confidence booster! Thank you so much! I snow hike too! Hiking in any conditions can be super enjoyable given the right mindset, company, and preparation. Still got my snow-shoes that my grandfather made before he passed a few years back that I use on "proper" trails. He was a bad ass logger/ moose hunter/ coast guard/ search and rescue guy/ line cook from "around the bay" (basically anywhere on the island outside the St. John's Metro area). He first taught me how to use an axe and what the real meaning of hard labour is, despite my townie (read city boy) upbringing and tendencies. His first name was Silas but everyone called him Mr. Dave (one of his middle names). Every time I'm in the woods or hiking I think of him and want to make him proud. I can feel him with me in the woods. But now I'm rambling into sentimentality and pagan theology unbecoming a discussion on the internet, so... new topic! Arkham! Altoids tins! perfect container for a little prep kit in a semi-urban outdoorsy situation. I carry two with me: one full of tinder, one with some money, a whistle, a lighter, a sewing kit, a small swiss army knife, some meds, some safety pins, emergency/ mundane numbers, alcohol swabs and bandaids. Super convenient, small, lightweight, and full of EVERYTHING you'd need in all kinds of situations. I try to have a knife and that kit on me all the time, even in the city (usually a less frightening Gerber multi-tool in the city, not a hunting knife lol). I will absolutely be developing a Direwolf Expedition TM exercise/ hiking/ parkour manual. this will be long term but awesome. Can I also say that EVERY woman should be that lady? Just woodsy lady-bosses everywhere. Love a woman who can start and tend a fire and skin a rabbit haha. Katia, it is indeed hardcore, which is what it must be! I'm not much of a gym/ city person. I want to live more like Thoreau as he did in Walden. Gimme a one room cabin in the woods and I'm good to go. I've been far too softcore most of my life in terms of just being the kind of person I admire in terms of woodsy stuff and fitness. I'm fairly pleased with my mind, beliefs, morals, etc. but it's time to bring my body in line with my vision (hence this whole deal obviously lol). Push push push. And then cozy up with someone by a fire haha
  15. Well you'd want a decent sized knife with a belt sheath. Just a typical hunting knife. I need mine here for coyotes just in case (ours are becoming a problem and are half-wolf hybrids), general protection, batoning some wood splits for a fire (lighter than a hatchet), etc. A knife is just a basic woods/ life tool so I always have one on me, especially on hikes. I also have a basic med kit, flashlight, tinder, matches, urban emergency tin, and a few other things that would make an emergency situation that much more doable. I'm a bit of a prepper so I carry things that have multiple uses in various situations, both emergency and mundane. But a knife is basic. If you have a good enough knife, you're pretty much set. Also, I find just having these things on me when I hike, even if I don't use them, has residual benefits. Like being extra weight to make me push harder and putting my mind in a very alert state so that I am less likely to find myself in an emergency situation to begin with. And you never know who you'll run into on the trail who could use some help! But hey, "Better gear than good sense a traveller cannot carry".
  16. O_O Direwolf training program. Yes. Why is this not already a thing that I've done. You may have just changed my life. Best way to find a hiking trail: walk into the woods and followed rabbit/ moose paths. If Sweden is anything like Newfoundland in terms of outdoorsy culture, the best trails are likely not on maps yet. Explore (with a partner and/or knife)!
  17. I totally just high fiver myself. It was awesome. You need to find someone near you to hike with ASAP. Incredibly fun. I am in SOOO much achy pain right now and have four huge blisters on my hand and a couple burns, but I want to do it again. Like right now. On a related note, I think a future goal of mine will be doing woods parkour. I want to run through the woods like a direwolf.
  18. Hey Arkham! The point isn't to rock your goals immediately else get discouraged, it's to do what you have to. You did the things you were supposed to, and you'll do better next time! You got this! FotB!
  19. Hey Essilore! The Elder Scrolls reference grabbed my attention, well done haha. Your goals look great, and have a decent grading system. I particularly like the idea of your fourth goal! Forcing yourself to be direct and honest like that should boost your confidence in a major way by the end of the challenge! For your second goal, do you do any strength training/ swimming etc now besides the grav yoga? When you say strength training what does that mean for you? Push-ups? Free weights? Farm labour? lol Good luck with the challenge! I'll be following you!
