  1. The tastiest! And in properly sized (.5 L) glasses, none of that tiny 12oz crap in the States =)
  2. Week 2, Days 1-3 update: Fitness & diet goals: I've been doing my push-ups every day (slowly and painfully), and I've recovered enough to swing some kettlebells and finally make it to a kung fu class. Now I just have to make sure to go tomorrow and Friday to hit my goal this week. As far as eating... I'm doing well on the food itself, it's the liquids that are the problem. Yesterday my roommate begged me to share a post-work beer on him and I said yes (though I did tell him I'm not drinking during the week so at least now he knows). Damn you, liquid bread, you are my kryptonite! Life goal: the book is coming along. Tomorrow I'll have a third edit done and am sending it off to a friend to proofread/comment. I'm still thinking of ways to substitute kung fu training next week. One idea is to finally properly learn some wooden dummy forms. I could watch youtube videos and try to master one form (or half a form) every day.
  3. Hi Browncoats! I actually heard something right up our Alliance-busting alleys on the radio the other day, so I thought I'd share it: http://sciencefriday.com/segment/01/11/2013/the-fallacies-of-fat.html *And by radio, I mean podcast. Does anyone listen to the radio anymore?
  4. Oh, those munchies! Those evil demons made me order a pizza one night as well...
  5. I started snowboarding when I was 15 and it was fairly easy to pick up, but it took a few seasons to get to where I was really comfortable. I'd say it's easy if you have experience skiing or skateboarding and are not afraid to fall... a lot. Yeah, I already sat Monday out (though I did do a few kettlebell swings just to keep active, and those seem to be the one workout that doesn't hurt) and I might even take today off and just do Wed-Thurs-Fri. Good point about being active, I need to force myself to do that as my usual post-snowboarding strategy is too spend as much time in front of the TV as humanly possible =)
  6. Good in general, though the result is I'm sore as hell and week 2 is starting to look far more difficult thanks to that. Also, haven't started my Alliance-busting assignment yet =/
  7. I had a great time, but now I face a dilemma: 1. I can barely walk, my arms feel like rubber and my legs ache after sitting in the same position for more than 2 minutes. Needless to say, working out this is going to be a challenge, not to mention surviving kung fu. I barely managed to do my morning push-ups, and that was with way longer breaks than normal. 2. My kung fu class is on a weird winter break schedule, which means that instead of offering four classes per week, there will be five longer classes this week and no classes at all next week =( What's a rogue monk to do?
  8. I decided that having sore arms from kung fu wasn't enough, so I gave myself sore legs as well thanks to this: Good times, but man does my body hate me today.
  9. To everyone already sore from working out, I hear you! After three straight days I'm giving myself a break today, because tomorrow I'm going snowboarding for the first time this season, which means fun... and then epic pain the next day. If I'm able to walk to the computer on Sunday I'll give an update =)
  10. If anyone was curious as to what three straight days of kung fu-ing do to your arms, wonder no more: Other than that, so far, so good still on all counts. Today I'll skip the kettlebells because A. I am sore as hell and B. I need to finish editing a first draft of the entire book by 5 pm. Eek! Also, tomorrow I'm crossing the border down to Slovakia to get my first day of snowboarding in this season Here's to hopefully not breaking anything!
  11. I don't know if it's a hard and fast rule, but if we can add cells we might as well add names. My thoughts exactly. I already have the online Battlestar Galactica RPG bookmarked and have yet to touch it cos I've had too much work =/
  12. Day 2-3: So far, so good. I arrived to last night's kung fu training half an hour early so I could squeeze in a kettlebell session as well (their 12 and 16 kg kettlebells > my 10 kg kettlebell at home), so both my workouts are done for the week! Not that that will stop me from a bonus session Friday morning if work doesn't get in the way. I decided an informal goal this challenge is to get my weight back down to 60-61 kg (133 lbs), where it used to hover until the epic two months of non-activity I just had. That way, I can start the next challenge trying to get down to my "ideal" of 56-57 (125 lbs). So the more kettles I swing, the closer I get! I also had an amazing kung fu session in general, where some of the moves seemed to finally "snap" in my head and I felt more confident than I have in a while. Though on the downside (or upside, maybe), my arms now feature bruises in all colors of the rainbow. I decided to keep myself accountable and informed as far as my food intake goes and started using this app again: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/perfect-diet-tracker/id405832950?mt=12 It's been quite helpful in helping me figure out if I need to eat more protein (generally, yes) and keeping the carbs down to a minimum. Anyway, I'm digging the momentum I feel from doing an NF challenge after such a long break and having you guys (and now my Browncoats) as teammates!
  13. Hmmmm, "Drunk Nerds Anonymous"? =) Yeah, the worst part is when you start making it a hobby as well, because homebrewing and wine-making definitely do not help in cutting out the booze. Of course, neither does working in any kind of creative field...
  14. It's hard to replace jumping jacks with anything that's less disruptive. All I can think of is one warm-up move we do in kung fu, where you keep your arms in place up to your face (kinda like a boxing block) and then jump in place, twisting your torso. It's kinda hard to explain without a video but the youtubes seem to have failed me.
  15. Welcome! Though I recommend sticking with paleo for a full three weeks before you decide - that appears to be the minimum time for most people to see any results in their health, energy levels, etc.
  16. Sounds awesome, especially keeping yourself accountable by having to cook dinner =) Good luck on saving money. My trick is to put half of each payment immediately into my savings account, and then take it out only if I REALLY need it (i.e. food or rent).
  17. Now that is a badass monk! What will you be doing for #1, specifically?
  18. Kittens! I think I just suffered from a cute attack (plus awesome music on the vid!)
  19. Everyone is welcome on deck (unless the mods have some sort of rule against adding cells in the google doc I'm unaware of)! We'll just have to move the cattle out of the storage bay...
  20. I think my Alliance-busting myth strategy is to read the 4-Hour Cookbook (which I picked up a couple weeks ago but still haven't even cracked open) over the next two weeks and see what tidbits I can squeeze from there... and then double-check them on the interwebz, just to be sure... Let's aim to misbehave!
  21. Good goals, fellow Browncoat! I have the exact same problem of sleeping late, probably because it usually follows several days of not sleeping enough, and while I think my body is overcompensating I still just feel tired that day. Good luck!
  22. We also get punching bags on Wednesdays. For some reason, those are my favorites =)
  23. Agreed, it would be awesome to do one of those obstacle 5Ks, the regular ones seem so boring in comparison =) Good luck!
  24. That's awesome! How exactly does one get to attend an MMA camp in Thailand (*jealous*)?
