  1. You know, just like Micabug, my flatmate also has fibromyalgia while I have unidentified joint pains. The yoga and calisthenics should help greatly in keeping your body in place I've never heard of the Walk to Rivendell and after googling it, I still couldn't figure out the major details. Anybody want to give me a basic rundown? Also, you're awesome!
  2. Hey Y'all! After spending a week or two carefully considering my weaknesses and strengths, I have concluded the following skills that I need to work on: patience, static strength, courage, and self-discipline. Thus here are my 4 goals: 1) Courage - moon and sun salutations: +2 CON +2 WIS I'm a creature of routine. I thrive on the constant rhythm of life and it's quite uncomfortable (to say the least) for me to add/subtract new aspects into my life. Thus, I'm going to start incorporating yoga into my workout. Being that I love pairs (slight OCD ), sun and moon salutations will be my starting point. My goal is to go from a mindful concentration on each movement, angle, and muscle into a mindless meditation. 2) Static Strength - handstand +3 STR Another odd feeling is that of being upside down, which is something I want to get used to (I dream constantly of flips and jumps!). In order to hold myself in a position like that, I need shoulder and tricep strength. ***BONUS: eventually I can meditate in this position? 3) Self-Discipline - workout 3X a week +2 STR Being that I have joint problems, it's easy for me to lose motivation. My goal, thus, is to keep up with my workout and toning them down instead of dropping it off entirely. On top of that, I read that if we concentrate on working out in absolute silence, it improves the quality of the workout exponentially. We'll see 4) Patience - Blog twice a week. +2 INT, +2 CHA I started a blog last week (2, actually, for different purposes) and I'd like to keep up with it. Once things get moving, I'll provide a link Until then, I'd like to post/ discuss meaningful ideas on a consistent basis. That's it! Good luck to us all!
  3. Feeling slightly uninspired at the moment. Alas, tomorrow is another day!

  4. So the next 6-week challenge will shortly be upon us. What are we going to do? I don't know about you guys, but I often get bored with simply making the same goals harder. Thus, I'm looking for a few new things to do. BTW, this will be my first official 6-week challenge. Let's make it fun One of my goals is definitely going to be to learn to do a handstand without a wall, may even add the ability to do a handstand pushup!
  5. Meditation is simply the practice of returning your attention to yourself and the present, as opposed to thoughts on the future or the past. Yoga is one way (actually several ways) to meditate in motion, where you use your body to assist your mind's "cleaning" process.
  6. It's a very useful practice to be mindful even outside yoga and meditation. I read Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman and he discussed a very interesting idea: There ARE no ordinary moments! Make every moment special, something to remember, and you'll soon see yourself breaking previously-perceived barriers- physically, mentally, and spiritually.
  7. I can't explain how much I love the above post. My fellow classmates are looking at me weird because I'm smiling at my laptop when everybody is talking about anemia... hahaha
  8. And regarding nerdiness, I love role playing games in all their forms. I'm still trying to quit my video-game addiction, but it was once far worse. That article about becoming a superhero really tug at my heart strings and fired me up
  9. Hey everybody! I've been reading NF for a few weeks now (and am quite impressed with it, really) so I thought I'd join up in the community around here. Also, I noticed a severe lack in Druids My name is Merrick, and I'm 24. I'm an American who moved to Israel 5 years ago to enlist into the IDF, though I've already finished my service as a Fitness Instructor there. Currently I study Naturopathy and teach English on the side. Life is good! Regarding personal goals, no matter what I do I couldn't seem to stick with a gym routine, even though I worked in one for 3 years. I realized eventually that I greatly prefer calisthenics; this is actually how I stumbled upon NF. Now, at 5'9" and 140lbs (or whatever 65kg is), I started last week with the beginner's routine and have been enjoying it immensely! Also I'm trying to get my stomach adjusted to eating every 3-4 hours so I can put on some muscle. My goals are very simple: stick with the above routine at least until the first of July (1.5 months) gain ~5 kg in muscle drop body fat ratio to around 10% feel good about myself Also I'm a Druid who in the past was a Monk. Ideally I'd like to multiclass into Assassin, but first I need to get over my fear of pain. hahaha Anyway, it's great to meet you all and I look forward to our progress both individually and communally!
