  1. Friday was a bit off-template I ate pretty decently, had the other half of my Subway sandwich for breakfast, and Korean food for lunch (Kimchee pancakes to stay with my side quest of "no seafood" rather than my usual saba) and then tortellini and veggies for dinner and a small bowl of potato chips/snackies. My husband and I basically spent the whole morning into the evening working on my Dad's house--or driving there. It's 80 miles each way. So an hour and a half there, met with a bunch of contractors, talked to a landscaper, and cleaned more stuff out. (We're prepping it to put up for sale.) After several hours of that, another 80 miles home, drop off the truck, check on the chooks, clean off the grime, and then in the car to my friend's house for our Friday night RPG game, which was fun, but I was too exhausted to think by 9:30, and everyone else was still hyped up on energy and going and I finally had to step in at around 10:30 and ask if we could stop for the night. *sigh* I'm an "early to bed, early to rise" sort even when I haven't been hauling stuff around all day. I definitely got in move around/outside time, though, cleaning . And despite two of my usual "soda" triggers (game/junk food and eating out), I chose water instead. Yay! For "Create" I managed to get a few inches on a pair of socks between all of the driving time and game. As for today, it's my Steampunk LARP, so I'll be out of the house for the majority of it, and it'll be another "off template" type day. I suppose I need to set some different expectations for the weekends....
  2. Harness: We don't have seasons here for the most part. It's just varying levels of overcast with a couple of weeks in the 70s in the summer, and a couple of months in the 30s and 40s in the winter, and the rest of the year is somewhere in between. XD It's kind of bland sometimes, but we also don't get WEATHER like other parts of the country, so I take it as a fair exchange. They do say we're due for a big earthquake, but there's not much to be done about that. It's been "due" my whole life. Skirler: Welcome back! Glad to have another fiberati around
  3. Move Around/Outside Time: Well, I certainly got a lot of outside time, but it was largely not physical time. I supervised free-ranging chickens from 12-8PM. Did a bit of light walking the property and bird-herding, but that's about it. Since my legs were completely stiffened up from yesterday's 4.4 mile walk, I'm okay with the light exercise today. Inside (My Body): Ha ha. So I made cheesy potatoes this morning, because we were out of eggs, and nommed on that for breakfast and lunch. When I got hungry again a few hours later, I started steaming some edamame to snack on, and realized it was 5PM, I had yet to eat an actual vegetable or fruit, and my husband was going to be home "late." So I shredded lettuce and kale to make a salad topped with edamame XD Later, my husband came home with a Subway veggie delite, so I ended up with plenty of vegetables Also, I made iced green tea. Create: While I was having said outside time with the chirpaderps, I was mostly sitting on my butt writing for a while, and then switched to spinning for the remainder of the afternoon/evening. It was nice for my legs, but the treadling probably burns about as many calories as typing on my keyboard. The next three days are going to be "off-template" as we head into the weekend and lots of plans and activities so we'll see how well I stick to the challenge... but more about that later.
  4. FaraXF and AfroElephant: Thanks! Most people describe it as "boring" but I've had "exciting," and I like where I am now much better than where I used to be XD I'm not much of a cook, but I like to make simple things like scrambled eggs, fried rice and other "one dish" type meals. Now if only the chickens would start laying, and more veggies would come up and I could make more "homegrown" meals! Sunmage: Thanks for the tips! I'm not a fan of cashews, but we have some almonds and pistachios around, I think.
  5. Move Around/Go Outside: I started with a 4.4 mile round trip walk to the library. I dropped off Season 1 of Game of Thrones, and picked up a few volumes of Blade of the Immortal manga. I love being a geek. In the afternoon I was out for a couple of more hours hanging with the chooks and did a bit of weed patrol. In the evening, my husband and I finished putting up fences and put together yard furniture, also while chicken-wrangling (they were getting into everything). Mostly, I'm proud that I didn't just turn into a useless blob of tired after getting back from the walk. Inside (My Body): Chickpea curry on toast for breakfast. Lunch was... not my shining moment. I had a PowerBar around 11 and another around 2. Luckily, I have no more PowerBars. I redeemed myself at dinner with scrambled eggs made with garden veggies. Yum. Drank a lot of hot tea and iced barely tea. No soda today. Create: 2 hours of spinning, and an hour of writing (2 entries of my 4 a week).
  6. 6/4 Move Around or Get Outside: About half an hour outside in the afternoon, weeding the tomato bed. 2PM in the sunniest part of the yard? Maybe not the wisest idea I've had.... Then I followed the chickens while they wandered around the yard and nibbled on grass and bugs and my herbs (sigh). Later in the evening, when my husband got home, we went back outside for another hour and I planted seeds for basil, borage, parsley and cowpeas and helped him putting up fencing around the yard. Inside (My Body): Oatmeal for breakfast Made a big pot of chickpea/spinach curry and had that over rice lunch. Then I had rice and kimchee and perilla leaves for dinner. Non-existent in the protein department, but it was refreshing. I may have a protein-oriented snack between now and bedtime. I was tempted by a root beer while making lunch, but checked myself and had lemon-water instead Ah, the power of accountability. I also made a pitcher of iced barley tea, and drank a fair bit of that this evening. Create: Spent 2+ hours spinning yarn, in addition to my dyeing work. Plan to do more spinning between now and bedtime. I did a little knitting on a sock, but it was almost 80 degrees out, and thick wool socks just felt kind of wrong.
  7. Thanks, MadScientist! I've a native Washingtonian, so I'm used to the rain. I don't mind mist or drizzle for a while, but when it's pouring, I'll balk It's actually wind that'll drive me inside more than the rain!
  8. Thanks! I checked out her site and put holds on her books from the library. Eggs will be staying a part of my diet (I have my own pampered hens now, although they won't be laying until fall), but I definitely can always use more recipe ideas.
  9. Good luck on the challenge! I empathize with the alcohol challenge... before I quit my old job, I went through at least a couple of glasses a night. After I quit and started my new career, I noticed that I'd go more than a month without thinking to uncork a bottle. I suspect those things are related >_>;
  10. Thanks! When I'm hungry, I get SUPER IMPATIENT, so if I get too hungry, I just want to eat whatever is quickly available. XD

  12. 6/3 Move Around/Outside Time: Spent two hours outside this afternoon--started with some writing and reading while chicken-sitting, then readied a bed for wildflowers, and also planted more okra, edamame, and bush beans in our vegetable garden. Inside (My Body): Had a 2 egg scramble with kale and pesto for breakfast, and nibbled on kimchee/edamame fried rice for lunch/afternoon (I'm a grazer), and I'll finish that off over dinner and I have some pistachios to snack on. No soda or "bad" snacks today. Create: Morning Pages done, along with about 45 minutes of spinning yarn and an hour of writing-related activity. I also signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo!
  13. Dunno how much time you have, but I can usually get mine done in about 15 minutes.
  14. Good luck! I've tried the Rivendell walk a couple of times, and I love the concept, although I've yet to manage to get out of the Shire on any attempt XD
  15. Wonderful goals! Looks like you're a pro at these challenges by now! I hear you on the getting house projects done... we bought a house several months ago and we keep having to tell ourselves that getting the yard and house the way we want it is a lifetime project, because there's so much to do XD
  16. Have fun with your summer internship! You have great goals! I'll have to check into the Happy Herbivore... I've been a pescatarian ("vegetarian" who eats fish) for several years, but I'm trying to cut the seafood, and a lot of my protein dependence falls on eggs and cheese (and seafood).

  18. Good luck! I hear you on the walking... I live a 1.5 mile round trip from our post office, which I usually go to at least once a week to ship orders... and half the time I drive. Sometimes I drive for good reason. It's pouring rain and I don't want the package labels to get soaked, or I have a particularly large shipment that would be awkward to carry... but just as many times, I drive because I'm lazy and it would take 3 minutes instead of 30 minutes. (Walking more often is also part of my goals this challenge.)
  19. Ah! Jealous about Call of Cthuhlu! It's one of my favorite RPGs, but none of my current gamer friends are Mythos like I am. I did Tatters of the King with a group years ago and loved it. XD Right now we're finishing up a mini-campain playtesting D&D Next (classic dungeon crawl), a story-in-a-story concept game using the Fate Core, and about to start a space opera also using Fate Core.

From Juila Cameron's website: I've been doing them (mostly) consistently for about a year and a half, and they really help me work through my thoughts (the good and the bad) without feeling like I need to censor myself like I would on a blog. I tell people that journaling that way changed my life, and it's absolutely true. I use a more modern version, called 750Words, which was inspired by Morning Pages, but are typed out.

  23. Thanks RFG and Thredith! I'm still fussing around with my goals. I want to do too much too quickly, but as I think about it more, there are some other things I should maybe focus on. Ah, well the challenge doesn't start until Monday, right? XD
