  1. Time to report! This was my challenge: During the course of this six week challenge my body's odometer will turn over 18,262 days (i.e., 50 years) --- yay..... So it seems fitting that I should have a 50-ish theme this time around. Main goal: Lose 50 lbs. Nah, let's move the decimal point over and make it 5 lbs. I'm not going to commit to that over six week's, but who knows?! Here I failed, and probably moved the needle in the wrong direction. How to get there: #1: 50 jumping jacks/day Bam! #2: 50 pushups/day Bam! #3: 50 squats/day Bam! Resolution: If I slip a day, the requirements will rollover. In the past, I've made my goals too complicated, so by simplifying the challenge I hope to actually notch a victory. I think I had to employ the rollover rule once. Can I do this? Yes! Lesson learned: Set realistic goals and you can achieve them. Unlike my 100 push-up challenge last year, which prevented me from doing any other strength exercises, this time I was able to keep up a fairly regular practice of doing bodyweight exercises, e.g., Spartacus. But I'm disappointed in the overall weight issue, and so when my wife suggested we embark on the Whole30 plan, I said "I'm in!" Onward, Assassins!
  2. I'm back!!! Happy to report that I have kept the 50-50-50 challenge going every single day.... and I have also now officially turned 50. Speaking of 50, I'd be happy if the thermometer hit 50! Ha.
  3. Yes, I'm looking forward to stick art again in the spring! As for the Big 50, my plan is to make it the same as any other B-Day. My dear wife, though, has been doing a 50-day countdown, giving me a gift each day. I'm a lucky guy.
  4. Challenge posted. Enjoy!
  5. THIS is a fantastic challenge, Mad Hatter. Has no one given you avocados? Enjoy! It's always a roll of the dice as to whether one's avocado is going to be ripe or disgusting. Fortunately, today was a good day. For breakfast I separated three eggs, whipped the whites, folded in the yolks, added a generous dash of Tabasco sauce and made an omelet with an entire sliced avocado in the center. Mmmmmm.
  6. Six days in and the streak is alive!
  7. Love the photos. Stump removal = fun, right? How nice to get a workout while accomplishing a task for the family. I remember clearing out space and setting up a railroad tie border for a swing set. Building the new swing set was a nice Lego-project, and wouldn't mind doing that again. Also had A LOT of fun demolishing the old swing set. Good luck!
  8. As someone who is about to turn 50, I'm just curious what you mean by your Level 50?
  9. Hello, Urzie. Better late than never, huh? What is a cruiser board?
  10. This pooch is an inspiration. Such confidence and control!
  11. Hey, Assassins! I haven't participated in a mini-challenge for a while, but I'm back today. Just did level one stretches. Man, that camel pose is hard. Let's go build that bridge!
  12. Hey, Assassins. After three days, I'm 3 for 3. This "simple" approach may just work. The pushups are getting a little tougher, though....

  14. Hello, fellow assassins (and Whovians)! With the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who occurring during the midst of this challenge, it seemed only fitting to tailor my challenge with a Doctor Who theme. Long-term quest: The Adipose are irrepressibly cute. But they are also 100% fat, and if I’m going to become more assassiny, some of them are going to have to go. “If you love someone, set it free!†Time for these young creatures to leave the nest. Current goals to advance the quest: 1. “Run!†At some point in many an episode, the Doctor's response to a danger is to Run!!! Accordingly, I will endeavor to do sprint/tabatas twice/weak. 2. Doctor Who Episode Workouts –This is going to be fun. For kicks I Googled “Doctor Who Workouts†and found a few drinking game-inspired workouts to perform whilst watching episodes. For instance, every time someone says “Doctor†you must do 10 pushups, and every time the Doctor uses the Sonic Screwdrier you must do 10 lunges. Opportunities abound to connect exercises with recurrent happenings in Doctor Who episodes. After some experimentation, I’ll try to post my favorite version of this game/workout.
  15. You betcha! It was a challenge getting tix for the first showing on the 23rd, but my patience was rewarded. So, so excited. I too am thinking of building a Doctor-themed challenge. Perhaps something tied to the number 50….
  16. Hi, fellow assassins. Time for me to report. Long-term quest: (This is a 100% continuation from the last challenge.) Become more assassiny by knocking off about 10 lbs so that the scale flirts with 13 as the first two digits. (Right now, it occasionally flirts with 15, which is the wrong direction!) Regrettably, I’m regressing a bit on my weight loss goal. Maybe my body is just gearing up for a cold winter? Yeah, that’s probably it. Current goals to advance the quest: 1. Do bodyweight exercises three times a week. I’m not going to specify specific routines but instead strive for variety. Assassins need to be nimble. No narrow 100 push-up type goal this time. B+ I managed to do bodyweight exercise routines fairly regularly. 2. Do a sprint workout once/week. This is a repeat from the last challenge. I’ll try to do my best to post my stick artwork, which I use to keep track of reps up The Hill. B- While I did a good number of sprint workouts, I could have done more. 3. Become more zen. I need to balance my hectic life with some yogo, meditation, reading and sleep. C: I continue to fail at what ought to be the easiest thing to do! Life side quest: Continue to save $! We’ve got more tuition bills on the horizon. The creditors haven’t started to move onto us yet! I'll have to think about the next challenge. One thing I'd like to do is participate in mini-challenges.
  17. Anyone planning to run the Frozen 5K at the St. Paul Winter Carnival this year? I love this race! For some reason, fewer people partake i compared to the Turkey Day 5K in Mpls. It might have something to do that the Winter Carnival, by design, is scheduled to occur during the coldest time of the year. A few years ago it was 8 below at the start. Yes!!! Skol, Vikings!!! BTW, I am not a runner but will crank out a 5K every now and then -- and I'm building up a large mug collection from the Frozen 5Ks.
  18. Hey, assassins. I'm reporting in. Today I cleaned the basement, thus making a more roomy and attractive workout space. Then I did the Rebel Outcast workout A, including intervals on the trusty ski machine. It's a rainy day, so I didn't mind putzing about, listening to a podcast whilst in the basement for so long. As I look back at my challenge goals, it's apparent that I need to be more zen....
  19. We vote with our pocketbooks. Personally, I have no problem with a company's alternative ad campaign that seeks to differentiate its products from competitors that sacrifice standards and quality by cutting costs, increasing margins, etc. BTW, my daughter worked the past two summers at Chipotle and much of what they serve is truly real food and fresh. Chipotle may not be perfect, but it's a far cry better than other, more ubiquitous options.
  20. Can you describe how to do Around the Worlds? Is it what this guy is doing?
  21. For Nerds fond of '80s music, you may remember The Suburbs, a Twin Cities band that had the song Love is the Law. Well, after many years they have just released a new album. Yay! This song isn't the best one on this album, but it makes me chuckle because I identify with singer's perspective. http://youtu.be/iwL2ZNt0Bf8
  22. Lately I've been inspired to do more sprints up The Hill. Here is today's artwork documenting my reps. I must credit my bride, JERFGirl (I think that's her handle) for opening my eyes to the possibility of doing word art. She wrote Hi, so I had to best her by doing Hey. Ha. We need to get JERFGirl to post on Nerd Fitness. Problem is, she isn't much of a nerd.
  23. When I saw the title to your post, it brought back memories of a song that we used to play when our kids were small. (They're now 20 and 16!) Here is a clip of part of that song. Enjoy! http://www.sandraboynton.com/sboynton.com.data/Components/Music/Olonelypeas.mp3
  24. As a struggling artist, I submit for your amusement "Art #3," which tracked my 13 sprints up The Hill today. They say you should eat seasonally. Well, my art appears to be seasonal as well. Ha. Cheers, fellow assassins!
  25. The six-week challenge has begun! Just finished a body-weight workout called Primal Poker. Shuffle a deck of cards and do a varying # of reps of an exercise based on what you flip over. Go thru the whole deck. Clubs = squats; Diamonds = pullup/chinups; Hearts = pushups; Spades = planks (4 seconds for every number on the card). All face cards count as 10 and aces count as 12. This is a nice and fairly quick BW routine. But it can be a killer if you draw a lot of diamonds in a row! Onward, Assassins!
