  1. Hi Sunmage! Thank you for the encouragement I can't walk much because my hip hurts too much but biking is much better. I'll try to do more of that this week. M-C
  2. Steve's post today was so inspiring. I plan to read it over and over! Not so bad in my challenge so far. I did ok last week but noticed I was skipping on the yoga so on Sunday I read a bunch of books on yoga from the library and stumbled on Yin Yoga. It might be just what I need for now. Pilates in the am for core stabilizing and Yin Yoga to stretch and meditate. I really need to get that hip flexion back. So I've tried it on Sunday and today and so far so good. My routine goes a little like this (pose names may not all be true Yin Yoga - I'm just starting. - Child pose - Melting Heart - Pigeon - Butterfly - Dead bug - Happy Baby - reclining twist - corpse (even corpse is hard on my hip flexor) Trying up hold 1-4 min on those. Anyone here doing Yin and/or restorative yoga? M-C
  3. Still doing the challenge but I am hitting a plateau here, very frustrating. Still not losing weight, even gaining a little if I stray for one meal. And I'm still limping a lot.... Sigh This week so far: Pilates 4 times Yoga 2 times Supported walk (10 min) 6 times Food diary - recorded everything but I'm slipping - going for sugary and fatty things at times. No biking at all I feel I need to really focus on 1 hr of exercise a day even if its just stretching and bike a little more. I'm on summer break- I do have the time, I'm just lazy. And I need to prep healthy meals ahead of time. Writing is going well though - 4000 words so far. M-C
  4. I think I'm seeing connection lol - it's just such a weird issue - so many things going on. Hard to tell.
  5. Thank you livingroovy slow progress but there's hope!
  6. Today is a day off but I can post a run down of week 3:' (And lost 2 pounds so far - that's 6 pounds since I started my food diary two months ago) So here is is 1) Pilates - 6 mornings at the gym for 20 min 2) yoga - 4 days mini sessions during the day (still have to work on that goal) 3) food diary - yep got that one down 4) writing - added 3000 words to the current project Also added - 6 sessions of 10 min of supported walking on the treadmill (if I want to walk again, I better practice) - 3 x 20 min sessions of bike rides outside (this one was a big leap for me, started once a week about 6 weeks ago - jumped on my son's bike to see if I could do. Walking is hard but I can built up to biking. At least I'll stay mobile. Seems to still need the cane for long distance walking but ok in the house.
  7. Day 6 of week 3: 1- Pilates everyday so far. 2- yoga 3 days in mini sessions during the day 3- food diary everyday 4- writing daily - 2000 words added to the novel and edited for 2 hrs for 3 days. I also went out for 2 20min bike rides this week and started to walk on the treadmill supporting my weight everyday for 10 min. It's all working. I'm getting stronger around the hip and managing to walk fairly straight around the house without help. This is my summer break so more time to focus on writing and rehab.
  8. Quick update so far on day 3 of week 3: Pilates 3 days Yoga 1 day Food diary - 3 days Writing 3 sessions brainstorm and 600 words I also added biking outside to my schedule and went for 20 min. Hip update - I can't say I got instant relief from the cortisone shot but I'm feeling stronger. I am starting to understand the possible biomechanics of my problem - super tight and frozen hip flexor with extremely weak glutes putting my whole pelvis out it alignment. I am starting to feel my glutes mind-body connection again and walking straighter. No cane in the house anymore!!! Yeah! I have up stop here and there to remember to realign my posture and I do have some pain but I see that it's worth keep doing the yoga and Pilates! M-C
  9. Thanks Evenewbie. That's such a great mindset. I struggle because I'm not progressing (healing) fast enough. I forget that it's like any other program - I need to give it time!
  10. This week's report: Not too too bad- could have written more 1- Pilates - 6 times 2- yoga 3 times (not quite 6 yet!) 3- food diary - every day 4 - writing 3 times (not quite 7 yet!) Starting to feel stronger
  11. Week 3 so far as of Thursday Pilates - 4 times Yoga - twice Food diary - daily Writing - daily I just started a yoga/Pilates journal yesterday. I always had a log book for weight lifting and really didn't know how to track my progress with yoga. Hear of journals and thought I'd give it a try. Anyone here keeping a yoga practice journal? Any advice you wish to share? Getting my hip cortisone shot tomorrow. Will report back! M-C
  12. Thank you Never heard of that book before - love the title though! I co-own a blog called Musetracks - similar thinking!

  14. Hi Jo! Thanks for your good wishes. I posted the pitch for my story a few posts above.
  15. Thank you! I added a little more this week-end but yeah pretty good for a first week.
  16. Yes it is I am coining the term as mine! Lol Here's the elevator pitch: "In an alternative Victorian world, ravaged by extreme climate, a proud mystic witch must team with a crafty airship privateer to prevent a coldblooded sorcerer from enslaving their world." M-C
  17. Ok so far this week I got some hits and some misses - Pilates: 5 days (As planned) - Yoga: 2 days (short 4 sessions) - Food diary - everyday as planned. - Writing - 4 days (short 3) Had an MRI this week, my spine is fine. My doctor told me to ditch the cane as much as possible because my muscles might weaken (it was the physio who told me to use it) I didn't use it around the house all week-end. So knowing my spine is fine, I'm less scared of exercising now. I'm staring to feel stronger from the Pilates. Getting a cortisone injection in my hip this coming Friday. Dr thought it was a good thing to try.
  18. Quick post to say that so far I've done Pilates - 4 days Yoga - 1 day (end of school year - crazy nights) Food diary - 4 days Writing - 3 days Having a hard time sticking with it this week - too many external commitment...

  20. Thanks for the good wishes! I teach science to 7th graders. This was my first year (change of career thing). Student teaching is soooo much work but fun and it's nice to get a job at the end. Good luck with that! Are you starting in the summer of fall?
  21. Oh she is so lucky!! Also I bet she's a super good writer if you are enjoying her work. What genre does she write?
  22. Hi White Rock, Yeah the idea of narrowing it down came after reading a recent blog post from Steve. It suddenly made a lot of sense to me. I have only one book published and it's gothic paranormal romance but right now I'm veering more towards fantasy and I'm working on a series of what I'd call a sword and sorcery steampunk Good fun all around.
  23. Thank Emanluke That's very cool that your fiancée is a novelist. Does she make you read her work? It's sometimes hard to get people to read our chapters!
  24. Thank you Random Forum Guy!
  25. Hi everyone I am totally new to the forum and challenge. I am really hoping yoga will help my mobility Looking forward to learn from you all!
