  1. Refining my goals: 1. Keeping the nutrition goal the same: eliminating grains and processed foods from my diet. 2. Body Weight Circuit: 3x a week, increasing reps +1 each time or as often as possible 3. Yoga 2x/week - there is a guided class 4. bed at 11 ± 15 mins, wake up 5:45 ± 15 mins (and actually get out of the bed) I am not jumping in super intense right away. For example, I have an egg intolerance, so I am still struggling with finding paleo breakfast foods that work for me. In the meantime I'm still eating granola and yogurt for breakfast. The bedtime is flexible as deadlines come and go and I haven't figured out how to get my work done in the mornings. It's a process! But I will absolutely get there!
  2. Excellent. Cool! And Thanks! None of my goals directly relate to backpacking or hiking right now, but it is something that I want to do still very much. I might get to do fieldwork later this summer, and you really have to get in shape for that! Those rock samples don't carry themselves! One of the cooler things where I am right now is Veduawoo (Vee-da-voo) A really cool collection of chunky Shermann granite. Bouldering is very popular here! That is something I really admire. The desire and ability to just crawl up a boulder?! Holy $#%!
  3. Yesterday was kiiiind of a bust. I woke up at 4:30 am (1.5 hrs before target).. I think I might have eaten some not fully cooked chicken the night before. Bad morning!! I ate paleo w/ veggies and shrimp all day, but did have some ice cream at night. Also didn't go to bed until midnight. I would give yesterday a C-! Today was a little better Woke up at 6 but went RIGHT back to sleep until 9. Veggies, fruit and cheese for lunch which was tasty.. my usual coffee for breakfast w/ H&H. But by the time I got to 3 pm I was exhausted and had a terrible headache brewing! I think I did not eat enough. I went to the local coffee shop and got a bagel which completely eliminated the headache. That was either some sort of bizarre grain-withdrawal, or my blood sugar was very very low. I am honestly concerned that it was the blood sugar. Hope that doesn't happen again.. need to explore slower burning carbs perhaps? Did the beginner body weight workout (BWW) made it through 2 sets: 1. 20 squats, 7 pushups, 12 lunges, 10 dumbbell rows/side, 15 second plancks (live on 4th fl. of apt bldg, not doing jumping jacks!) after this my quads were twitching! 2. 20 squats, 5 pushups then collapsed, 4 lunges then fell over, 10 dumbbell rows/side points for effort? had anyone been watching they would have laughed. BUT nobody was so that's fine! Working hard to maintain sleep/wake schedule tonight/tomorrow. Will try to do Yoga in the morning. Next BWW is Thurs. Have scheduled Yoga time on Thursday mornings.. next week will try to do BWW M/W/F or W/F/S Also I joined the dirt worshipping backpackers accountabilibuddies group! woo!!
  4. Woo so excited for this! I love getting outside, but it's hard to legitimize the time sometimes. Love being outdoors! That's why I went into Geology But jeez I gotta get in shape!!
  5. A writing goal is a great idea! Get the blood pumping with fitness and the creative juices flowing with writing Don't be embarrassed about what you're eating; still track it on MyPlate. Think of it like an experiment.. say you eat a ton of salty food one day, maybe the next day you'll notice that you drink tons more water or look a little different in the mirror. It's all useful data! And don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake. As Steve says:
  6. Science! and I totes shouldn't be on NF right now.. but I am. Whoops ;)

  7. Thanks for all the awesome tips, abs!! I would love to make the world my jungle gym, but first things first: learn to orient self in space! haha. I am looking forward to digging into this challenge! It's great to have found a supportive community of people who are all trying to get in shape and further their own goals.. not just going to the gym to find a guy, or b/c it's the thing to do.
  8. Haha, love the mentality! Your goals are delightfully detailed I think that will help accomplish them.
  9. That's going to be tough! You can do it!! Those hours slip away so easily, don't they? For example, I spent my entire morning on NF**! But maybe that's okay (**shhh don't tell my advisor!) Do you have any specific thoughts on Yoga? Do you have any favorite YouTube videos, or a particular type of Yoga that appeals to you?
  10. Thanks Good point about the points! How about: Nutrition Goal: +1 STA, +1 WIS Yoga Goal: +1 DEX, +1 WIS Weight Training: +1 STR, +1 STA Life Goal: +1 CON, +1 CHA So you're an Assassin at heart? That's awesome. Parkour is so baller. ______________ EDIT!! Nutrition {+1 STA, +3 WIS} Yoga {+2 DEX, +1 WIS} Weight Training {+3 STR, +2 STA} Life {+2 CON, +1 CHA}
  11. This is my first fitness challenge! I am very excited for it. I've been haunting the NF blog for about 6 months now and I think it's time to get committed. Starting Point: My base level of fitness is really low. I am overweight and under-fit. I am a graduate student in science (I'm 22), so I don't really get out much and I work a LOT. I put my race at half Ogre/half Dryad.. I am overweight and big boned like an ogre, and slightly above average in height. I love being outside and take time to commune with trees as often as possible. I must have a slim frame hidden somewhere under all this fat, and I'd like to find it! I play my french horn about 2 hours a day, and read way too much fanfiction! I just got a Wii, so I am finally experiencing 2008 gaming, lol. I allocated my points to: Strength: 1 (I am crazy weak) Dexterity: 1 (I am clumsy too!) Stamina: 1 (and I can't run or lift for very long) Constitution: 4 (but I rarely get sick and injured.. except for a weak ankle) Wisdom: 3 (I am intuitive, but bad at listening to my body) Charisma: 5 (Personality and sense of humor HELLO!) I am looking to lose about .. 85 lbs? eventually. I can't really picture what I would look like after that process; I've never been that skinny! Eventually I'd like to be in Druid class! But I don't have those skills yet at ALL. Goals: Four goals, right? Nutrition Goal I will eliminate all grains and processed foods from my diet, but continue to eat dairy to some extent. I'd like to get my consumption to around 1500 calories/ day. Yoga Goal I will do at least 10 minutes of Yoga a day, hopefully increasing to 30 minutes at the end of 6 weeks Bodyweight Circuit Goal I would like to be able to do the full Beginner Body Weight Workout to gain some basic strength 20 body weight squats (I can do 10 now)10 push ups (I can do 10 now)20 walking lunges (I can do 20, but only once not thrice)10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug) (I have no idea how many I can do)15 second plank (I can do 10 now)30 Jumping Jacks (I can probably do this) Life Goal I would like to go to bed at 10:45 PM and wake up at 6 AM (± 15 minutes) every day. I have struggled with maintaining a schedule my whole life, and this would be a MOMENTOUS achievement!! Thanks!
