  1. I posted in the wrong thread last night... so here is my two day update: 4/14- Goal 1) Epic fail Goal 2) Wrote this weeks script. Goal 3) Not a big adventure, but celebrating my brothers 30th with a whole big fam. So that counts. 4/15- Goal 1) Tracking success... I was way over budget. With this in mind going to make a couple adjustments to tomorrows meal plan. Goal 2) Going to film pieces of the episode as soon as I sign off. Goal 3) Same as above.
  2. Oops posted in the wrong thread. I was so tired last night. Sorry.
  3. I'm back after a respawn. I tried doing a speed run and died right out the gate. Man was I unprepared during my last outing here @ NF. My main storyline for this episode! (In no particular order). 1.) To be well on my way (or at) my healthy weight of 170 lbs. (Currently 214)... it's a little bit heavy for my BMI, but its where I have always felt the most energetic and alive (I truly do have dense bones and put on muscle way too easily... I also put on fat easy too). 2.) To increase my skills at science communication/outreach and to have this hobby support itself financially. 3.) To enjoy time with family and have awesome adventures and stuff. 6 Week Challenge: For the Checkpoint (taking it slow this time). 1.) Track my calories during the weekdays to get a baseline for future planning... if time include the weekends. 2.) To produce 1 youtube science video per week, and to start writing content for my website. 3.) To have one weekly "adventure" with the wife and/or kids - Zoo, Museum, Murder Mystery, novelty restaurant... etc. Let's do this.
  4. Fellow cycler. It sounds like you are the all or nothing mentality as well. I eat clean and exercise regularly for a few weeks, then something stressful happens and bam.... back to square one... and I stay at square one for a couple of weeks. Then back to clean eating and exercise. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I too joine Nerd Fitness back in 2012 and posted a flurry of posts about how awesome I was doing. Then the holidays hit and my wife got pregnant again, and well here I am nearly three years later. I think we need to make sure we ease into the process. Take care of our social situations. I don't know what your social life is like, but you need the support of those around you. You need to also let go of any mental baggage. Then we need to be prepared to take baby steps, not go whole hog. Some people can do the all or nothing way, but for most all or nothing means all or nothing for everything. So as soon as you fail even a little bit (it's impossible not to) we go right back to the nothing. That's just my two cents. But I know we can do it. I wish you the best.
  5. Rocking the workout stuff. Getting beat up on the diet stuff. Blasting the other stuff out of the water.
  6. I've got the warrior dash in IL coming up in two weeks, then the spartan run in July. It will be my third WD. Last year I skipped it. The year before I walked it with my wife, and the year before I ran it. This year I want to run the whole thing again. Next year I want to be prepared to get a competitive time.
  7. Take a rest, and get well. The important thing is not to feel guilty. Sometimes you're just tired and powering through it won't hurt you. But sometimes you are fighting injury or illness and your body is telling you to back off or your in trouble. You should be able to take a week or two off and not lose any gains (assuming you aren't going to overcompensate by overeating). Rest for a couple of days until the symptoms subside. Drink lots of fluids. Ease back into it when you are ready. Practice good hygeine and listen to your body.
  8. Update 2: I did my body weight workout today. It sucked. Check out my blog for more info: catchityourself.blogspot.com
  9. Hey Ben. Thanks for the tip! Sparkling water will help a lot. I know I'm not really addicted to the taste, but rather the carbonation. For a while I was trying to focus on drinking carbonated water from my soda stream, but my cartrige is empty. Sigh. I'll get a little bit better.
  10. Update Numero Uno: Ran last night. Going to do a bodyweight workout tonite. Decreased my soda consumption, but not to my goal yet. No junk food last night. Oopsed this morning. The baby got up early and my wife was up late editing videos so I was on daddy duty and didn't have time to make a quick breakfast (excuses) Been bloggin nightly. Still working on the website, but I have the site mapped out. The design planned and some first draft posts ready to rock.
  11. Just bought the new Dan Brown book. I know he's just pulp, but I can't wait to start. Only 5 more days until summer break and I get to catch up on my movies and books!
  12. Man tomorrow is going to be tough. The soda thing is going to be very hard. The rest, I know I can do.
  13. St. Jude has a special place in my heart. My little cousin went through her treatment there. She ended up surviving a 6 months-to-live diagnosis at the age of 9, and is now almost 20 years cancer free.
  14. Lot's of luck! Making it a couples thing will totally make it easier and more fun.
