  1. In an effort to help those that are logging in on the weekends -- I decided to pop in this weekend. I will report on the remainder of my third week on my thread on Monday, but I did want to ask you ladies, seeing as how you have so much more experience than I, how I can continue getting some sort of exercise in without using my foot? My toe seems to have gotten worse -- to the point that I was limping all yesterday. I haven't been able to exercise for two days now, barely able to walk. I feel MUCH better this morning and I soaked my feet in hot water with salt and baking powder (in two 15 minute increments to refill with hot water) and that seemed to help. I am no longer limping as much and can put a bit of pressure on my toe, but the top of my toe is still sensitive to the touch. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
  2. Thanks Chris-Tien Jinn! I hadn't even realized I didn't report on week two and week three is almost over! I have seriously been busy!! So back-tracking, I wasn't able to sign up for cross-fit the first week I went. The owner was out of town and I needed to get permission to sign up for two months instead of their usual 3 months -- which paying for three months in advance is not an option for me. So HUGE damper on my goals. I had planned to go at the end of week two to talk to the owner that would be back from vacation, but life got crazy. I did however stay active. I got sick on Thursday, not sure what it was, but I was not feeling well at all, without energy, achy all over, a bit warm, etc, but I went home (instead of going to sign up for cross-fit) and slept. By Friday morning I was well again and went to the gym in the AM. I had two dance classes (salsa and bachata) last week. I have to admit, even though I have danced both before, I was super nervous to go into the class. Thankfully I have a good friend that joined me, so I forced myself to go in to wait for her before I could turn around and run. It was fun – I’m glad I stayed!! Let's see, what else...I only got one hike in last week. I had planned to go hiking Saturday morning but ended up doing other things that I have always wanted to do instead. So overall, three times in the gym, one awesome hike and two dance classes, along with some dancing on Friday and Saturday night, I think my moving goal went well, even though I was bummed that I didn’t get to go to cross-fit and purposely missed my hiking on Saturday in exchange for live vicariously through myself. My recording my thoughts went well again - and as I mentioned before, it has seriously helped my days to be actively looking for all the abundant blessings I have! The end of week two and three was particularly rough, so recording has been sooo helpful. My eating was decent, but not spot on. I had a lot of social things go on this weekend, but I made a conscious effort to eat better, if not best. I suppose it couldn’t be all bad since I have gone from 212.7 to 208.3 as of the end of week two. Week Three is almost half way over. I didn’t go to the gym on Monday morning, I had planned on going hiking at night, but life got in the way again. This is why I need to go in the morning. Tuesday morning I did a workout with weights—love the sore feeling in my arms today. I also squeezed in one salsa dance class yesterday before rushing off to accompany on the piano a few friends that were going to sing. I didn’t go to the gym this morning – I think I’m still trying to catch up on sleep from falling asleep at 3 am for both Friday and Saturday! I had planned to do my usual hiking today with my friend, but she was sick today. I called on the generosity of another friend for a girls’ night out at the mountain. And since my week was flying by, I thought I would invite her and fit in a dance class before going hiking. I loved the rumba!! The teacher invited us to stay for the country two-step so we did. Also lots of fun…but I now have my first official war wound! And here I thought it was gonna be from cross-fit! Between me learning the steps and the guy learning to lead, my toes kept getting stepped on! I had noticed my toes were hurting, but what I hadn’t noticed was that one of my toes was bleeding. I would have continued dancing, but one of the other couples dancing noticed my bloody trail! Hahaha! Oh well! By the time the class ended (I had to stop and put up my foot to stop the bleeding); I asked my friend if she wanted to go hiking (with the sun almost setting) or stay for merengue. We stayed and danced some more…even with the same guy that had stepped on me. My toe is throbbing right now as I type, so I may not be able to work out tomorrow morning because I can’t quite bend my toe to walk properly! Maybe just some weight lifting tomorrow with a few jumping jacks for my cardio warm-up if the throbbing goes down! Food is better now. I did have part of my unclean foods yesterday, but even then, I was proud of my control – plus, the food didn’t have the same appeal as before! I have lots of other woots that I had wanted to share about this weekend, but I’m exhausted and need to rest. This living life vicariously through me is exhausting!! Thanks for all your support!
  3. You ladies are motivating!! Sorry I've been MIA about cheering you on, but please know that I have been reading all of the enteries through my email and rooting your victories! Katinka, I may not log on the weekends, but I read the email updates and root for ya! I may log on this weekend, just to root along side ya! Chickie, I'm with you -- can't wait till it's Friday! I feel like I didn't have a weekend last week! But, on the plus side, I definitely feel like I am living life to the max! Jenni, thanks for the tip you gave Lt_Laurel. I had never really thought about not progressing with my knee push-ups, but it's so true!! I think I'm gonna try the negative push up! Here's to finishing week three off strong and starting the down hill of the challenge!
  4. Holy! Let me start by apologizing! I kept looking in my content and reply to everyone, but I just realized I never wrote anything on your thread!! How did that happen?! I kept looking at my list and remember reading other topics, but I wasn't seeing them...now I know why! I was missing your thread! *Sigh* First off, I love your goals! I especially want to borrow the nothing but rain goal. I like being able to work toward something with an end - that usually motivates me to push myself harder to reach it. Let's see, what else? Great job in the chin ups with the lessening of the bands!! Great job on the BBQ...and the scarfs looks so pretty. It kinds makes me want to knit a scarf...well, learn to knit first! Perhaps when it's not in the 100's I will have a greater desire to knit! Right now, having extra anything on me doesn't sound pleasant! Okay, so clean slate from here. There's lots of other stuff that I have rooted for you in your past enteries, but that's in the past now! Keep up the great work!
  5. From your workout, I would imagine that you are feeling better! Great job on the dead-lifts! I want to get numbers up like that! I had been following along by email, so glad I looked back at the actual enteries -- I would have totally missed out on the cool pic! I'm glad you are doing so well. The IF sounds like a good fit for you. I think from reading your enteries I wanna try it too! Keep up the great work on week three!
  6. First off, I know it's been said, but impressing a marine -- wow! I'm sorry that you're feeling off, but I'm amazed that you pushed through your workout -- even with annoying children! Rock on! I hope that your week picks up and as idealistinfire mentioned, looking at your why list might give ya the fuel to keep on trudging along! I kept seeing the phrase this week, "Lean forward" so I give it to you!
  7. Great work! Seriously, you're my hero! Week three is shaping out very nicely! Those kale chips sound amazing! I have found that I really love kale! I have it in my morning smoothie with blueberries, banana, egg whites and coconut milk...then again for dinner sometimes, sauted with some bacon, onions and a bit of vinegar (balsamic, red or white wine vinegar)...but this chip sounds like a new favorite! Although, Mac may have a point...I may have to eat them all to avoid them going "bad"! Nice job with the 10 minute mobility and good luck with the knots! I hope your week three continue well and that you settle in to your school/ life schedule!
  8. Hi there! Thanks for the tips! How did camp go? I had a summer camp during the last week of my first challenge and found it quite a challenge to keep from eating sweets and carbs. I hope you did well! I can't wait to hear how week three went!
  9. Sweet job on the mug KingLeroy! I saw your pic on MissJo's and almost missed it was you! I totally lusted after the mug and then to my great suprise I saw in your update that YOU made it! That's awesome! I'm glad to hear you are doing so well!! Keep up with the Whole30. From what I remember on the chart they have on their site, the low stamina (also combined with "the special lady time") can be a killer but you should feel energized in these coming days. Hang in there! Suerte (good luck in Spanish) with the rest of week three!!
  10. Hey Jo! How's it going? I know you are probably reading the messages but haven't had a chance to comment. I just wanted to let you know that I'm still rooting for you! Don't worry about what you've missed or what didn't happen last week. Just remember what your goals are and start again! Love ya!
  11. I'm almost a week late, but happy belated-birthday!! That hash sounds a-maz-ing! Congrat on the long stretch of tracking! I think this is the thing that has saved me in this challenge. I have a little white-board calendar where I keep track of my daily accomplishments. I don't like seeing empty/ low entry spots! Also, I can't wait to see some pictures of your costume! I've never been to a ___-con before, but all of you make it sounds amazingly fun! I think that will be next on my list of things to do for my living vicariously! Good luck on the rest of week three!
  12. Holy mackerel! Can I be you when I grow up?? It took me a bit to find your goal thread, but so glad I did! I’m gonna love following along in your progress – being inspired by your cleaning eating and strong lifts! Good luck on your second week!
  13. I always feel like I'm late to reply, but just wanted to let you know that I'm cheering for you! Good luck on the second week!
  14. Whoo-hoo!! You're my hero! And please, let's call it motivation instead of shame! We will definitely have to plan a hike at the end or middle of the next challenge!...when it's a little less buring-flames hot outside. My favorite trail is North Mountain because it's a paved path and has some good incline too. Oh, and that brownie! Ugh, looks delicious! I've tried a sweet potato brownie that wasn't too bad...that icing sounds like it would work well with it. I found mine on PaleOMG website -- I used dates in mine (instead of honey) as the receipe call for. Keep the recipes and yummy pics comin'!
  15. Ah, so happy to hear you are doing well!! The Whole30 is totally worth it if you can get past the first two weeks! I did something similar the last challenge - but I wasn't strickly Whole. I knew there would be times where I couldn't eat well, so I did have the occassions when I would eat unclean, but that was limited. I can probably count on my two hands the times I didn't. My body loved it...and now craves coconut milk and coconut butter! (which I hear is also yum in coffee)
  16. Hey Miss Jo! Nice job on reading Primal! I'm sorry to hear your arm is not well and that you are not yet 100%. Just keep moving foward...and don't forget to listen to your body and what it needs!
  17. Week One Report: I’ve decided I need more structure. I like to be able to see on a calendar first thing in the morning my reporting of my physical activity. The end of the day report is not working out as well for me. So I’ve decided that starting tomorrow I will add cardio in the morning. This may be a bit much and can cause me to burn out quickly, but morning exercise is best for me. Until I’m able to transition my cross-fit workouts to the morning, I need the routine of the morning workouts to continue. The plan will continue as outlined – fitting time in for hiking, dancing and cross-fit classes. I also decided I need to report my eating, if only out of shame or accomplishment. This weekend was horrible! Friday morning started off well, but that’s where it ended. We had an impromptu office meeting at work were Italian food was brought in. Normally that’s okay, I just eat what I bring in for lunch – only I didn’t bring anything in because I was going to go out (with a Paleo friendly meal already in mind). Dinner was equally as bad as I had to eat what I was given at a family dinner. I at least danced and sweat a lot later that night, but then we ended up going out to a taco stand and ate at 1 am. Let’s just say I had a hang-over the next morning…and I don’t drink alcohol! I didn’t get to the Zumba class in the morning as I didn’t wake up until about half way through the class. Bleh! I can only console myself with the three hours of dancing on Friday night. Sunday’s food was sparse as I usually fast on each first Sunday of the month. Once I broke my fast it was bad food once again at another family dinner! I think the only Paleo things I ate were perhaps the meat in the enchiladas and carrots and celery – everything else was processed carbs galore. So with that terrible weekend, I decided to grade my food again starting this week. My record keeping goal has saved me a few times this week. It hasn’t been my best week, speaking emotionally, but concentrating on the blessings I have has really kept things in perspective and allowed me to have happiness despite everything that has been going on.
  18. Keep up the great work! Your dedication to logging your daily battle is impressive!
  19. I did a search on cross-fit (I just started) and your daily battle log came up. Hope yesterday went well!
  20. Congrats on the chin-ups! I totally want to be you by my fourth challenge!!
  21. Thanks! I've been super envious of others cross-fit classes, so I decided I NEEDED to make it fit. I actually hadn't planned to work it into (time, budget and strength) until the fall, but Steve's article "8 Lessons Learned from a Failed Mountain Climb" lead me to an old post called, "How to live Vicariously through Yourself" and that's all I needed to push me over! It's a variety of dancing. I'm enrolling in an unlimited group dance class. They have about three different dance classes per night Monday thru Friday so it just all depends on what day and time I show up. As I get better with cross-fit, I hope to join the morning class (that isn't a scaled one) and that way I have more time at night to join a few different classes as well as a few different mountains for my hiking. I can only fit a few things after work! I reported on my thread -- but wanted to share the news here too! I had my first cross-fit class!! Can't wait to go back!
  22. I'm a wimp about summers too and that's that I'm a native -- but I've decided that I NEED to hike, doesn't matter if it's 110 or 80. To report, I went to my first cross-fit class yesterday. It was good. I was super nervous about it, so much so that I could feel my lunch coming up as I stood there and watched the 5 pm class finish up the WOD. I kept thinking , "What did I get myself into!?!" It wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be! I was a bit sore this morning, but well enough to get some cardio on the stairmaster and elliptical machine without a problem. I wasn't able to sign-up for my group dance classes as planned, but hope to today. Some family things came up for tonight, so to replace my dance lesson, I'm going latin dancing tonight and plan to join the Zumba class at my gym tomorrow. That should make up for not getting a lesson in, right?? My food was clean. I had promised a co-worker that I would cheat yesterday because of the grand opening to a new Chick-fil-a store near by my work. Luckily for me, it was crazy busy so I had spaghetti (juliennied zucchini) and spicy turkey meatballs for lunch. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't I would not have felt as good by the time I got to my 1st class. I did my usual recording of thoughts. I'm glad I did. My night almost ended with argument, but I still needed to record my thoughts. Once I did, the bad feelings subsided and I was filled with love again. I love that feeling!
  23. I won’t start by commenting from the beginning, but I echo everyone else’s encouraging words! I’m in serious awe! Your determination to find a pool reminded me of one of my favorite inspiration quotes: "There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results." -Unknown You, my new friend, are committed!
  24. I have serious admiration for you and your dedication. We do have similar goals. I'm excited that we're on the same accountibilibuddies group!
