  1. My progress report: My Goals: 1. Stick with my Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Relay training plan. I'm doing the Virginia Beach Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Relay with a friend who is new to running. I've done 6 half marathons and LOVE the R'n'R, but the last couple of years have been soooo hot it has hurt my race time. The relay is shorter (7.9 miles for me, 5.2 miles for her), so I'm hoping I can run it real fast before the heat gets to me. My training plan each week is: 2 easy runs, one speed/tempo run, and one long run. I've just begun training, but was slacking on running before that and I don't want to be a slacker for this. This week didn't go very well. The only run I did was a 2-miler on Saturday. 2. Lose 6 pounds. I think I can lose more than that during this 6 week challenge, but I've said that before and it hasn't happened yet. My current weight is 170. My ultimate goal weight is 130. I'm getting married in October and ordered a dress that's just slightly too small, so I have to lose no less than 10 pounds, but preferably more than that. I'm mostly a vegetarian, but technically a pescatarian, and would like to move to 80% vegan to help me lose weight since cheese is my weakness. I'm also on MyFitnessPal (Erica262) to track calories and need to stick with that. I do well during the week, but cave on the weekends in social situations. (Beer is my other weakness.) On the Monday the challenge began, I weighed 170.4. Today I weigh 169.4. So far so good! I didn't even know I was succeeding at this, so that's nice. 3. Get into a strength training groove. I have an excellent arm workout that I'd like to do every other morning, but sleep tends to win over getting up early for a workout. Even though it only takes 20 minutes. I'd also like to do a weight circuit at the gym twice a week. By the end of the six weeks, I want to be able to do more than one non-girly push up. This week didn't go well. I did zero strength workouts. 4. Relax!!! I tend to let life get overwhelming and I just keep going and going and going until finally I get sick and am forced to stop. I've been sick more this year than in the last 2-3 years combined and I know it's because I'm overdoing it and I'm super stressed out. I want to carve out 15 minutes each day to just relax - do yoga, meditate, or just cuddle on the couch with the dog. Whatever I have to do (work two jobs, chores, running, etc) can wait 15 minutes while I get my S#*& together. This week didn't go well. I was completely overwhelmed with job #1, job #2, wedding planning, apartment cleaning, and my mom visiting. I had a lot of fun with my mom in town, but it was still busy and very little relaxing was done. Going forward: So far this week is going pretty well. I ran this morning knowing I'd be working both jobs today and wouldn't have time otherwise. I'm going out of town this weekend and will be gone for 4 days. I'll keep up with my running, but the other goals may be more challenging.
  2. Thanks for checking in! It's going. I'm sort of doing the bare minimum training right now. It's been a busy week with both jobs and wedding planning, and will be a busy weekend of wedding planning, though I'll still get all my runs done. Next week will be better on the fitness-front.. More confidence, more determination, more time haha. Right now I'm just trying to keep my head above water.
  3. I like that idea! My suggestion is to use things that are currently in season. For example, my CSA has been getting lots of strawberries, asparagus and kale lately. Today I hear we're getting beets... And probably more asparagus and strawberries.
  4. Thanks Anwyl! I think I'll stick with human since I'm totally new to all of this and don't really understand it all yet I'm excited though! So far this is really fun and the Nerd community is great! Hey, shaffnut! That's awesome! I work at ODU Do you ever do any of the local races? I've done several of the J&A races and I've done the R'n'R a few times Hi ProPlayer_Lux! Yay graphic design! I think it might be stress from the profession too. So many deadlines! So many edits! I love what I do, but I need a break sometimes Whew, you all are making me feel so much better about this! I thought I signed up before realizing what I was getting myself into
  5. Thanks, Hammlin! After browsing around, I think I'll stick with the Scouts I do have a couple questions since I'm totally new here. What's with the "race" thing? Elves and whatnot? Can I just be human or is that lame? And how do I change my picture and signature? My picture just sort of appeared and I'm not sure why... Weird.
  6. Oh I found the Attributes info! So this is what I think I am: Strength (STR) - 1 Dexterity (DEX) - 2 Stamina (STA) - 4 Constitution (CON) - 2 Wisdom (WIS) - 5 Charisma (CHA) - 2 And to earn more points... Goal 1 will earn 3 STA points and 2 DEX points Goal 2 will earn 5 STR points Goal 3 will earn 2 CON points and 1 CHA point Goal 4 will earn 1 WIS point and 1 CON point Does this sound good so far? And I'll go with the grading scale: A - 100% B - 75% C - 50% D - 25% F - 0% I'll have to remember to go back to: http://nerdfitnessrebellion.com/index.php?/page/articles.html/_/rebel-updates/real-life-roleplaying-attribute-points-and-th-r14
  7. Hello! I'm totally new to the Nerd Fitness community and joined to do the 6-week challenge. I'd love to join this group! Signing up now
  8. Thanks, Grizzy! It's good to hear I'm not too out-of-place since I don't do D&D type things. Running is my favorite, so I think I'll stick with the Scouts for now, but I might browse the other forums just to see what everyone else is up to Thanks again! And good luck to you too!
  9. I'm mostly a Scout, but a little bit of a Druid. I guess I'd ultimately like to be a Ranger? Okay I'm new to these challenges and completely new to the Nerd Fitness community. I feel totally out of place, but I don't want to. I don't like being the new girl, but am definitely out of my element here. What are these attribute things? Is this like roll playing game lingo? I've never done any of that. I don't even play video games. I've been reading Nerd Fitness for a couple of years, but now I think maybe I'm not nerdy enough? Anyway, I'm up for a new challenge and hoping I can get into this and feel less out-of-place eventually. Here are my SMART goals: 1. Stick with my Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Relay training plan. I'm doing the Virginia Beach Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Relay with a friend who is new to running. I want to carve out 15 minutes each day to just relax - do yoga, meditate, or just cuddle on the couch with the dog. Whatever I have to do (work two jobs, chores, running, etc) can wait 15 minutes while I get my S#*& together. Oh I should introduce myself. My name is Erica. I live in Norfolk, Virginia with my fiance (an English professor) and my lab/pit mix, Raven. I'll turn 29 during this challenge. I'm a graphic designer/photographer and I work in marketing for a university. I sometimes do a little freelancing. I picked up a second job at a wine/beer store to make extra money for the wedding. I'm getting married in October and what little free time I have tends to go into planning that. I was pretty much completely sedentary for most of my life because I don't like competitive sports. A year after college, I discovered I was 193 pounds. I didn't care for that, so I became a vegetarian, cleaned up my diet, joined a gym, and did the Couch to 5k. I lost a little more than 50 pounds. I maintained that loss for a little more than a year. I've done 6 half marathons, 1 full marathon, and a dozen other races. When my fiance and I started dating (long distance), taking care of myself became less of a priority because we were trying to move. I changed jobs and moved across the state and it was all very stressful. And now I'm working two jobs, which stressful. So over the last couple of years, I regained about 30 pounds. And now I'm here. Is this good? Off to a good start? Can someone teach me how to be a better nerd? I want to win this challenge thingy.
