  1. Mmm....sweet potato!

  2. You, ma'am, are a rock star. I am in awe. I'm so excited for you!
  3. That teeny tiny little foot pop turned out to be a bigger deal than I thought. I'm not allowed to run for at least a week, and then I go in for a follow up. Blargh. On the bright side, I didn't break anything, and let's face it: 3/4 goals is still pretty awesome. Still candy free, and still doing my body weight workouts. A couple modifications, yes, but I'm saying they still count. I have been writing some, and now that I'm off my feet for a few days, I can hopefully crank through revisions and get something up.
  4. Week One Report: - No candy all week! - All body weight and barre workouts complete! - Writing is off to a slow start... Lots of attempts and lots of frustrated whacks for my poor delete key. - Ran all the miles I meant to (and a few bonus ones) but might have had a set-back. I was running up a hill and stepped in a hole. There was a pop noise somewhere near my heel and now my foot isn't too happy with me. I'm going to stay off it as much as possible for the next few days, so hopefully it'll be ready to go pretty soon. I'm wicked excited to see the progress every one is making! The Scouts are pretty amazing.
  5. Thanks for the welcome guys! I tried to respond during my lunch break last night, but my Kindle and I were not seeing eye to eye. No candy all shift, and I spent a half hour this morning channeling my inner Runner 5. Turns out I live too far away from anything for my phone to find a GPS, so I'll go out again with something else to check my distance. I'm a bit of a diehard pedestrian, I'm used to lots of waddling. I'll probably go every other day, or, when the miles requirements ramps up, a short run one day followed by a longer one the next. I'll pick up some hummus next time I'm at the store, that sounds delicious! Yay for new friends and new writing buddies! Yay for fellow lurkers! I'm hoping that the barre workouts will help with the creakiness. I took a class in college and it was glorious, but lost the habit when the semester ended. Thanks! If you can find it, I'd appreciate the podcast. I won't make any promises on posting all of the pages. I'll have to see how much rust shows. Thanks! It's not so bad, just kind of lonely. But at least when I get off, it's a good time to go running. Not too hot and very little traffic. I bounce around quite a bit. I fell in love with Ray Carver a few years ago and write a lot of short fiction. I took as many poetry classes as I could, and all but one of the nonfiction workshops too. I read a bit of everything too. What can I say, I love words. If you'd like, I'd be happy to take a look at anything you have. We'll have a Scout Writer's Group before we know it! If my body is even half as bad at math as my brain, I'll have the miles added in before it figures out what's going on! Thanks for the concern, I'll be careful.
  6. Hello! I've been lurking for awhile and decided it was time to take the plunge. This will be my first challenge. I've been writing and scribbling for a few days and I think I'm finally happy with my goals! Fitness Goals 1. Run twenty miles weekly by week 6 (+4 STA) I think weekly mile targets work better for me than single run targets, just because they help me to be more consistent. Week 1: 5 miles Week 2: 10 miles Week 3: 10 miles Week 4: 15 miles Week 5: 15 miles Week 6: 20 miles 2. Complete three body weight or barre workouts weekly (+4 STR, +2 DEX) I'm not exactly the most graceful thing on two legs and have the scars and crunchy-sounding joints to prove it. I'm hoping this combination will allow me to rebuild my flexibility and muscle tone. 3. Cut candy out of my night shift (+1 CHA) I moved to a night shift a few months ago and picked up a terrible candy habit. I usually break into a bag right around 2:30 and have gotten to where I rely on the sugar rush to make it until the end of my day. I plan on replacing candy with fruits and veggies. Life Goal Start writing again. (+4 WIS) I have a BA in Creative Writing that's doing little more than collecting dust. After graduation I was hired on at a medical practice and they don't ask for too much poetry. In order to complete this goal, I need to produce 25 pages of new material by the end of the challenge. I might get a Jawbone Up or something like it to help me monitor my progress through out. I'm admittedly guilty of thinking I burn more calories/run more miles/take more steps than I actually do, and I want to hold myself accountable. I'm really excited to get started and make some new friends.
