  1. http://greatist.com/happiness/best-fitness-health-happiness-bloggers Deservedly part of this "Who's Who" in wellness bloggers list. (Nov 2013)
  2. boil a dozen eggs and let them cool and throw them back in the egg container, eat a couple for breakfast straight out of the fridge. I like to sprinkle on a little tobasco. Cook bacon in advance and nuke a couple slices to warm them up. Another idea is if you have a blender - get one of those single serve bullets - throw in a banana or an apple, and a little powdered cinnamon and almond milk and some ice - you have an instant fruit smoothy to drink on the go and it's filling.
  3. Yep Rebecca is right - I haven't stopped drinking - I do go out 2 or 3 times per week still but I try to limit it to a couple of good microbrews (as opposed to a truckload of anything and everything like I used to). I've found that I actually enjoy the beer better now that I'm actually taking the time to taste and savor it. That's definitely my main Paleo "cheat", if you will. I also don't sweat the small stuff. If I"m in a restaurant I don't freak out over what's in a sauce or if I forget to say "no cheese" on a salad. I'll even eat a slice of real pizza or have a real hamburger bun once per week or so. I'm definitely on the 80/20 Paleo level but I've found that it works very well for me. As far as exercise, I haven't weight trained at all. I do get out and run 2 or 3 times per week though (I plan to run a 5K every weekend this winter to keep my stamina up) - but I'm also about to start a weight training program. Nothing too major or inconvenient, I'll probably do the Rebel Fitness Guide chain of workouts, just to keep on a schedule, plus I can do that stuff at home with my home workout equipment I have.
  4. I like a good treat once in awhile, and I will bread meats with some concoction of paleo approved flour, but not very often. Some of these "Paleo" websites are shoving these cakes/cookies/donuts down your throat as if they are good for you. You might as well eat a couple of Big Macs as compared to the calorie content of some of that stuff.
  5. I thought I'd give you all an update. I'm a good 11 weeks in, and 38 pounds down! Absolutely loving this lifestyle. I also trained for and ran a 5K in that timeframe, it feels great to be able to knock out a few miles any time I want now. Living and feeling healthy rules!
  6. Ok so here's the deal. About 5 weeks ago I started eating Paleo and it has basically changed my life. I feel a gazillion times better and have dropped about 23 lbs in those 5 weeks. A few weeks into this new way of life I realized there was a 5K run here over Halloween weekend (a costume run, it's quite awesome - so really how much more Nerd Fitness can that be??). I did this run many years ago when I was in shape. So I decided to start a 5K training program. This was 3 weeks ago. Since I now have 6 weeks to go until the 5K, I figure this 6-week challenge is perfect timing, and very motivating for me to continue full force for the next 6 weeks. So game on! Main Quest: Run a 5K 3 goals to help achieve Main Quest: 1) Continued paleo diet 2) continue C25K running program 3) continue misc exercises (weights/biking) Life Side Quest: Get back on track with my guitar lessons. Make a schedule and stick to it for the next 6 weeks.
  7. I love munching on carrots at work. I tend to eat them slow... (very small bites at a time) - which keeps my mind occupied into thinking I"m actually eating... and at the same time after 20 mins of munching on carrots I'm feeling pretty satisfied without even realizing it.
  8. Hi Rebecca! And Jess. Yeah I don't plan on being hard-core forever but for now I'm really enjoying the benefit of feeling good all the damn time. It's quite an amazing feeling. The weight loss is nice but I'm looking at that as a by-product. I can't believe how much energy I have each day and how I'm not "dying to eat" all the time. You never really understand what "you won't have the cravings" for crap food anymore means until you really don't have them. It's a whole new world out there I'm finding out!
  9. Hello all! About a month ago my life changed for a dramatic good. I can't believe the transformation of my mind and body by switching to this Paleo way of eating. I've lost about 23 lbs in the past month, and have more energy than ever and feel so much better every day. I don't crave processed foods anymore, I even have to remind myself to actually eat sometimes. I do eat my 3 meals per day with snacks though. Gone are the days of counting calories (I still keep a food diary on MyFitnessPal - friend me I'm "naptownblue", however trying to stay under my calorie goal (of losing 2 lbs per week) is no challenge at all anymore, in fact I usually have to eat an extra healthy snack or two to replace my workout calories, and I"m still easily at my goal daily intake). I've started a blog to document my journey in the past month - it's a mix of simple meals I've thrown together, as well as just general blog posts about things I've learned. I'd love to get more involved in the Paleo community, meet new people with similar experiences for sharing ideas and such. I live in Indianapolis, if any of you live here we should become friends.
