  1. Thanks! I'm really pumped about the progress so far =) I am going to China for work. I am an IT project manager and we are implementing a new version of an application to all our units worldwide. I just got back from Germany and I'm going to China and Brazil by the end of the summer!
  2. I'm about 2.5 weeks into this personal trainer-heavy lifting phase and it is already getting a little better. At least I'm not completely debilitated, but I still have a good amount of that "oh holy crap apparently I did something!" type soreness =) I did try a cold/ice bath after my last legs day and that seemed to help. I've done those after half marathons before... guess they work for lifting too!
  3. So far the transition is going great! I can't even believe I haven't had candy or grains in 2 weeks but it's been much easier than I thought it would be. I guess that's because I'm so hell bent on getting results =) It seems to be working so far though. According to weight (down 4.2 lbs) and measurements (lost 1" on hips and 1.5" on waist) taken this past weekend and using the Naval Body Fat Calculator, I'm down 3% body fat so far. That blows my mind. Now I'm just waiting for the time when I can really see the results in the mirror. Two weeks isn't long enough for that!
  4. I was traveling last week and my hotel luckily had free weights (only up to 20 lbs though) so I used those and did body weight exercises primarily. I'm guessing when I go to China in early July my hotel won't have anything so I'd love to hear what you do while traveling!
  5. I haven't been messaging here every time I post but it's been more than once a week since the challenge started. Check it out! http://www.athleteatheart.com
  6. Hey all! Sorry I wasn't able to post for the first week... I've been in Germany for work and totally out of the loop! Here are my stats from this past weekend with original stat in parentheses. Original Stats MeasurementsWeight: 265.8 (270)Height: 5' 6"Waist(at narrowest for female, at navel for male): 45 (46.5)Hip(at widest): 54 (55)Wrist: 6.5 (6.5)Forearm(at widest): 12 (12.5)Neck(at narrowest): 15 (15)StatsBMI Body Fat: 28.4 (28.47%)Navy Body Fat: 59% (62%)Fat Mass: 156 lbs (167)Lean Mass: 109 lbs (103) That's an loss of 3% body fat already!!! Just a note: I have drastically changed my diet from really really bad (typical American diet + binges on junk food when I was feeling down) to vegetable heavy, soda-free, 95% paleo. Apparently it does in fact work!
  7. Vintage - I'm so glad to hear it gets better as I continue to do this. We'll see what happens! =) I really appreciate everyone's comments!
  8. I'm slightly confused about the "penalty" for not posting or whatever, but I love the idea of sharing post topics (all writing about the same thing) and supporting each other's blogs!
  9. Hey all! I'm new to the rebellion but have been blogging for a couple of years. Can't wait to go through this post in more detail and follow some awesome blogs! Here's my info: 1. Athlete at Heart - http://www.athleteatheart.com 2. I blog about my life including weight loss, training for everything from triathlons to half marathons, dealing with depression, etc. 3. Safe for work, totally Stop by the blog and say hi!
  10. When I'm working out I repeat: "Better, faster, stronger" Just for fun quote: "Life is like a mustache. It can be wonderful or terrible, but it always tickles." Lately I've been totally obsessed with the YouTube video "Why We Fall". It's like all the motivational movie moments (Ali, Every Given Sunday, Rocky, Pursuit of Happyness, etc) rolled into one super motivating video. Link is below, but my favorite quote from it is this. "You make a choice, Right? You just DECIDE. What it's going to be. Who you're going to be. How you're going to do it." It's so true, isn't it? It's all a decision. One healthy choice after another. You just have to decide to do it and follow through. Link to You Tube video:
  11. Hey all! Total Newb here, and excited to get in on this challenge. MeasurementsWeight: 270Height: 5' 6"Waist(at narrowest for female, at navel for male): 46.5Hip(at widest): 55Wrist: 6.5Forearm(at widest): 12.5Neck(at narrowest): 15StatsBMI Body Fat: 28.47%Navy Body Fat: 62%Fat Mass: 167 lbsLean Mass: 103 lbs Why is my BMI body fat and Navy body fat so different?? Is it like that for everyone? Also, really? Pictures??? I have them but I'm embarrassed to post them. BUT, of course I will if its necessary and you all promise not to make fun.
  12. Had a good talk with my trainer today (upper body day!) and we talked about foam rolling and working through the soreness. Since it'll help me reach my goals I'm willing to suffer right now. Hopefully I'll get stronger QUICKLY! I've done ice baths after half marathons and it really helps with the soreness but I never thought to do it after lifting. I might have to try that.
  13. I'm a little nervous about the 11% as well. The calculation we are using considers a combination of body weight and waist and hip measurements so maybe the combination of the weight + measurements lost will get me there, but we will see what happens. I have a lot to lose (current stats: 270 lbs, 61% body fat) so I suppose it is possible. I think the change in my diet from eat-whatever-I-want to paleo will cause more than the normal 2lbs/week to come off at the very beginning and then I'll settle into that 0-2 lb range. Thanks for the support! I'll definitely look into the Warrior Invitational thread
  14. Hey all! This is my first 6 week challenge so I'd love some support I've just signed up with a personal trainer who believes in lifting heavy and eating paleo-like to lose fat so that plays in to the goals I'm setting for myself right now. Okay, here are my goals: 1. Lift 2x/week Most weeks this will be with my trainer but I'll be travel for 2.5 of the next 6 weeks so I'm going to lift even while I'm traveling so I am sure to keep on track! 2. Track food every single day. Nuff said. 3. Lose 11% body fat (eek!) This goal is hella-scary but it is what my trainer thinks is possible for me in the next 6 weeks. It'll require major focus on my diet. I'm using the US Navy method of calculating body fat percentage based on weight and body measurements. 4. Life Goal: Pay off my American Express! I have some credit card debt right now and need to nip it in the bud. Doing this in 6 weeks is a little fast but I might be able to make it! Time to start kicking ass and taking names!
  15. I'm in Eastern Iowa! Brand new here too. I'm totally doing RAGBRAI this year =)
