  1. This week went fantastic other than not updating all that much. Next week is finals and I've been slammed. I did my second set of 2x tabatas yesterday with a friend and it kicked both of our asses pretty good. Yoga was super intense this week, I'm really thinking about continuing on with it after the challenge is up. Overall this has been a great intro to the 6 week challenge thing. I love the short term goal orientation and I'm really excited about getting into the next challenge over the summer, will definitely have to increase the intensity of my goals. So far I'm holding a 100%!
  2. Yeah we used it as some together time, she's in the challenge as well although she's a ranger
  3. Nice leisurely walk early this morning along the centennial trail to cap of this week of the challenge. Lo and behold, waking up early on a saturday to get outside for a while has made the rest of my day much more productive.
  4. Any tips on handstand pushups/pushups in general? I can get to 20 pull ups faster than I can get to 100 straight pushups or even into the handstand push up area.
  5. Wrapping up a great first week. Quick recap on my goals: 1) Yoga - Signed up and got to do my first yoga class ever. Had a great time, was just as hard as I expected, I'm super excited to get back to it next week. 2) 3x Core workouts - I started off a little too easy and ended up doing more than I prescribed for this week. I think the double + sets next week and following will be more of a challenge. 3) Lunch eating - I've managed to get in 3 meals every day, lunch is still hard to remember/hard to squeeze in, but I'm making it a force of habit. Hopefully I can get a little creative and figure out more ways to tackle this issue. 4) Get outdoors - planned for this weekend with the wife.
  6. I'm sold on yoga. Had a fantastic time this evening and left feeling totally relaxed and clear headed. I knew I wasn't all that flexible, but I don't think I was prepared for how flexible I am not in some areas. Definitely stretched some things tonight that have probably never been intentionally stretched in my entire lift. Next up for the week, get my outdoorsy time in. For some reason this one keeps eluding me.
  7. A lot of my training is crossfit in nature I guess but I'm not apart of the CF hivemind. I normally do a mixture of powerlifting, HIIT, and running/rowing. I made the tabatas up just using the normal 20/10 formula making sure that I hit all of the abdominal areas. Always down to discuss new workout ideas.
  8. In an hour I'll be heading off to my first yoga class ever. When I get back from this I think I'll really be a lv 1 druid
  9. If you just want to get dancing in any way possible you can check out local colleges/community colleges. A lot of them offer (very) large group sessions for cheap and usually free social dancing opportunities. The quality will be lacking some, but it is better than nothing.
  10. Day 1 and I'm off to a good start. Nice long warm up session at the gym, followed by a 500m row, embraced the challenge and knocked out the first tabata set with a vengeance. Then, to really get into the spirit, I did a relaxing 5 minute meditation session in the sauna room. Lunch is packed for a mid class meal today. Lets do this!
  11. Give us some more details so we can root for you man. "More", "nearly", "any type", and "less", is a bit vague for good goal setting. How to Not Suck at Goal Setting
  12. Starting Strength by Riptoe is a must read if you ever desire to pick up a barbell. It is long and highly detailed, but for good reason. It'll make you think twice every time you see someone deadlifting, squatting, benching, or doing cleans.
  13. Wife and I ballroom and swing. Got started at an Arthur Murray and branched off to various independent studios. Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba East/West Coast Swing, etc... I'm really getting into Samba though, love that pulsation. Advice? Find somewhere close by to get started with. The chain/franchise whatever doesn't matter when you're first starting out. Don't limit yourself to one particular dance. They all have common elements that will carry over. Swing and Latin have similar movements, Smooth dancing (waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, tango) are all very similar when you are a beginner. If you can afford to do both private lessons and group lessons do it. Group lessons will help you and your partner get used to dancing with other people and will help you develop real lead/follow technique. Private lessons will help you refine what you learn in group lessons.
  14. Alright, I've got my core workouts figured out I think. Any input will of course be appreciated. Lets get this started!
  15. I'm new to the forum, but I've been a life long ranger. Time to mix it up. Flexibility and core strength have always taken a back seat to strength training and interval training; no longer. Starting Stats: [sTR: 2] [DEX:4] [sTA:2] [CON:1] [WIS:4] [CHA:2] Let's get down to business... Goal 1: Sign up for and complete 6 weeks of yoga classes. I've never done any yoga, but this is the core of my challenge, and, why I decided to join the ranks of the Druids. I'll be completing this by 1. Signing up [Done], 2. Showing up, and 3. Getting my ass kicked. +3 Dex, +2 Con Goal 2: Dedicated core workouts 3 days a week. Decided to change this one a bit. I'll be going with the tabata style workouts. Week one I'll do one set per day (mon. set one, wed. set two, fri. set 3.) Week two I'll be doing two sets per day with a 4 minute rest between sets. Week three I'll be doing three sets per day in the same format, etc... +2 Str, +3 Dex Goal 3: Eat three solid meals a day 5 days a week. This one is going to be the hardest one for me unfortunately. Like most Elves I maintain a tall skinny figure with little to no effort and sustain myself on small intermittent meals. As my long term goal is to put some real mass on this Elvish frame, I need to make eating three solid meals a part of my life. The biggest hurdle will be lunch, I never eat lunch. I'll need to take the extra time in my evenings to prepare lunches for myself in order to succeed at this goal. +1 Con, +1 Wis Goal 4: Get woodsy. Druids right? I'm in full on end of the school year mode. I don't go outside unless I'm walking to and from my car or from class to class. Once a week I vow to spend an hour in nature getting my inner Druid on. +1 Wis, +2 Cha
