  1. Ostrich?? My goodness. I can't say I have ever tried that before! Perhaps I will consider buying a dehydrator in the future when I am not on a student budget, however, in the meantime I think I'll just buy biltong in bulk
  2. Oh gosh. So i'm not looking forward to recapping the week just been. Long story short.. I exerted minimal effort and achieved minimal goals Week 4- Yoga- uhh... I'm at home and couldn't go to my usual yoga place. HOWEVER, i know that is not an excuse because there are numerous yoga videos on the net. I guess I was watching too much Veronica Mars... I am going to flip that around and do 20 minutes of yoga stretches (anythings really) BEFORE EACH episode that I watch of Veronica Mars. Fasting- Yes! Did this Saturday morning until dinner (skipped breakfast and lunch) Talking to people- Every day except Monday and Tuesday... (where I didn't leave the house). This week I talked to a fellow gym-goer, a few new people at work, and a lady Sprints- Procrastinated this until the last minute (ie the weekend) and ended up being distracted with other things and never did it! Oh gosh, I am frustrated with myself. I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself to do the sprints as they're super intense.. any suggestions?
  3. Holiday goal: read Lord of the Rings.

  4. PS. biltong is so much better than jerky. By far. Love the stuff.
  5. How do you make your own biltong? I'm interested! What cut do you usually use etc? The yoga helped a lot, even around exam time. It was really great to just have an hour where I wasn't focussed on my study Thanks! They are small conversations, but thats a bit step for me!! Week 3 Yoga- did a morning class on Tuesday and a lunchtime class (which was packed!! not going to that time slot again!) on Thursday Conversations- I don't remember all my conversations throughout the week, but I did manage to spark up at least a hello or a comment on the weather, hahaha. Thought I might not be able to talk to anyone on Friday as I just had a PJ day at home, but I met a new girl at youth group that night and was chatting away. Sprints- Managed to fit a sprint in between work finishing on Saturday afternoon and going out for a friend's party that night! Woop! Fasting- Did a 2 meal fast on the Tuesday after yoga and was out and about which made it a whole lot easier as I wasn't focussing on food. Just had a normal dinner when I got home that night.
  6. Yeah, how's it going HayleyMay? Lets hear an honest update!
  7. Thanks! Haven't been to a meetup as of yet because I've had a hectic week of exams I am planning, however, to do more meets with my spare time now that exams are over It's going good! Not starving.. did a fast yesterday for two meals and I had dinner as well as biltong (55g protein, woop!) and a pear afterwards at a movie with a friend My fast yesterday was kind of unplanned.. I did a yoga class in the morning and I find that if I eat straight after, then I'm hungry an hour later, so I waited did other things including having a cup of tea, and I founf I actually wasn't hungry so I kept it going through lunch until dinner. Mission accomplished! I really didn't feel hungry as I thought I would, I think that constantly having cups of herbal tea helped also Week 2: Yoga- consistantly done 2 classes a week in the mornings Sprints- eek, didn't do my sprints this week. I could insert an excuse here about how horrible the weather has been (winter here), but for the time required for a sprints, it really shouldn't be an excuse. Fasting- I actually can't remember what day I fasted, but I did! I also realised that fasting is actually helping me save money on my student budget. Hmm.. Conversations- To be honest, I didn't manage to greet someone new on Monday or Sunday due to my studying (not leaving the house..), but I gave myself a little prep talk on Tuesday that I HAD to talk to someone! The expectation of the talk was holding me back and I needed to remind myself that there actually WAS NO EXPECTATION because people don't normally reach out often. SO THEN there was this guy who was in my apartment building who I managed to have a conversation with (albiet, the weather) but it was actually really great! It made me feel proud of myself! Days since then have followed with little conversations in the lift of my apartment, greeting people on the streets randomly, and striking up conversation at university over the little things. I am not the most extroverted person, so really reaching out to any one consistantly is a challenge for me and not shying away. Although I have been a bit patchy, I'm proud of what I have achieved so far
  8. Week 1: Yoga- unfortunately this week wasn't a standard week and I was away from the yoga place, I managed to do at least one class on Thursday and missed my alarm Friday morning to go again Fasting- Skipped lunch on Wednesday at work Sprint-I did 4x sprints down at the local park Conversations- I managed to talk to someone every day that I hadn't met! Granted they weren't full-on conversations, but they still count!
  9. Excited for this 6 week challenge! But also nervous.. But more excited than nervous.

      Don't worry. It's in the bag :)

  10. Could you think about going to the gym early in the morning so you don't have the excuse of being tired after work? Or, perhaps you could recruit a friend so that you are both accountable for each other going to the gym? I also found that just going to the gym without thinking it through, usually resulted in a workout, ie don't even think about going to the gym- just do it. So for paleo eating, are you going to prep/ plan your meals for the week? Do you have a specific day that you could schedule a time to prep and plan each week (preferably the same each week)? Other than that, it sounds great! It's encouraging to see you save $1000 Every little bit adds up, perhaps I should do that next challenge...
  11. That's such a great idea about the meetups- I'm part of the website meetup.com but haven't actually had the guts to go through with any meetups. Here's my chance! I only just started the yoga- and didn't realise it was so different from hatha. By the end of the first day that I did it, i was aching all over and that continued for 3 days, hahaha. It's getting better though Oh, with the fasting I want to teach myself diligence and patience when it comes to food as well as gratitude because not everyone is privileged enough to have three meals a day. There are days where I don't finish university until 7pm and I haven't taken any dinner with me because I didn't want to carry food around all day and I want to be content with that hunger, rather than it consuming my thoughts (as it does currently). Thank you! It's encouraging to hear that you fast daily, wow. I have heard about that- but it got a bit messy with my schedules currently.. so perhaps the next challenge I could aim for a shorter eating window . Hmm
  12. Yay for Kiwis! I'm Auckland-based
  13. My friend at university is now pregnant and does this thing where she links her fingers together and rests them on her growing belly- and I find I am starting to do this without thinking!! Oh gosh.. I'm so glad you confessed what you expected/ what really happened- it's refreshing to see and how you're learning from it as a result. Your goals look really good
  14. Hey awesome- you'll be coming to New Zealand (that's where I live!). Your goals sound epic- have you got plans as to how you will put them in to practice practically? Like, perhaps you could do 3 press-ups for the first week, 4 the next week...
  15. So here I am, 81 kilos (178 pounds) and being 180 cm tall (5 foot 9). I am tired of stating my goal weight and rather focussing on the amount of weight I have to lose, I will not touch the scale for 6 weeks!! I want to focus more on what I can do, rather than just weight loss for at least 6 weeks- liberating! My goals are as follows: - Complete two astanga yoga classes a week for 6 weeks - Intermittently fast for 24 hours by the end of 6 weeks - Sprint 4 shuttles of 100m once a week, for 6 weeks - Initiate contact with one person that I do not know each day for 6 weeks How I plan to achieve these goals: - I have already bought yoga concession cards for a place not far from my home, so there will be minimal room for excuses not to go - I will skip one meal one day during the week for the first and second week, two meals for the third and fourth week, three meals for the fifth and sixth week - I will walk to the park which is 5 minutes from my house and perform sprints in the morning while it's cold enough not to overheat - I will either talk to greet people when walking past, strike up conversations while waiting for public transport, chat away to supermarket cashiers, talk to people in the elevator of the building I live in, and chatting to people in lecture theatres at university, among other things. So that's me
