  1. YUUT! luckily I am back working around the Marines again (I assist in training MEB/MEF staffs)! Thanks for the welcome! Since i kind of fell off the wagon during the last challenge, but knew my goals were good and obtainable (I just lost focus) I kept most of them, but slightly modified them to be more drilled down and focused. Ive always said (when i was a smoker) that i would quit when i planned to have children. I quit a few months ago, but i have a pipe that i brakout every now and then to enjoy with a nice glass of whiskey or at the end of an exercise. Gnerally what I do or plan to do is a daily/every other day update which has an overview of the day what I ate and what i did. If its a run i will typically link to my run tracker as well (zombies! run). As far as food logging it has become difficult for me because i make about 60-98% (depends on how i feel that day/week) of my food from scratch. I have used the food log along with my fitbit in the past. I dont like counting calories or ammount of carbs/protein/ect, but I do lay out what I eat and may even add pictures of what I cook as well!
  2. im in for 20! ill add my name to the sheet later my work computer doesnt like google docs... Some history. I was the tall lanky bean pole as a kid, then around the age of 11 my metabolism dropped drastically. I would still eat like i was the bean pole that could never gain weight, then about a year later i got heavy into gaming (DAMN you AoE2, SC, D2). This persisted throughout high school and despite being in JROTC and later the USMC DEP i would hover between 207-217. I graduated MC bootcamp at 160 which was the first and last time ive seen that weight since i was like 10. Got a desk job in the military and did a lot of boozing and junk food eating. Hovered right around 200Lbs for some years then dropped down to about 180 by the time i got out. I got out went to Afghanistan focused on heavy lifting put on quite a bit of muscle and stayed at around 190-200. Then i lost the motivation to workout and stopped. The next 9 months i have gradually gained more and more weight mainly due to boozing again and lots of carb heavy days. The last I checked i was at 234 which is the heaviest ive been. How will i do this. The single biggest thing is i will reduce my boozing and carb (bread and pasta) and baked goods (I love baking! now when the wife and I bake we only have a small portion of it and she takes the rest to work), Secondly I will be focusing on running and mobility (Yoga) for my workouts.
  3. This challenge is going to be focused around running so I figured I should go run with the scouts for this challenge! I am a 26 year old former Marine who has let him-self go after leaving active duty. I did a few challenges last year while I was in Afghanistan. The first one was great; I got halfway through a second one then disappeared. During the last 9 months that I was in Afghanistan I worked out probably about 8 times and that continued once I got stateside I took a month off from everything as I prepared for a new job and moving to a new location. It was also great not to have to do anything for a month after spending two years and some change overseas. The copious amounts of alcohol also didn’t help much. Main Quest: I want to improve my overall health and get back to the level and weight I was as when in the Marines. My ultimate goal to get back down to 160-180 Lbs (I’m 5' 11") and get to 15% or less BF (based on DOD measurements) and to get back to a 32in or less waist. This overall goal will take more than this challenge to complete, but this challenge and future ones will be moving me toward this initial quest of mine! Goal 1: Make healthy eating decisions +1 CONS +1 CHA - reduce my alcohol consuption to SAT and going out with the wife/friends (I.E Oktoberfest and RENFEST) - Only allow one meal which I am able to eat bread/pasta per day (I can eat bread for every meal everyday) - Increase consumption of veggies! Have at least one meal a day which has a veggie with it. A - 5/6 weeks following all 3 sub goals B - 5/6 weeks following 2 sub goals C - 3/4 weeks following all 3 sub goals D - 2-4 weeks following 2 sub goals F - 1 week or more missing 2 or more sub goals Goal 2: complete a 5k without walking. BONUS complete a 5K in under 30 mins. +1 DEX +2 STA - run/walk at least 3 miles 3-4 times a week. - I am restarting the Zombies run 5K trainer. Since I made it over halfway through last time, but most of the freeform runs especially at the end I would walk most of them I am hoping that starting back over will allow me to begin running ALL the free form portions at first and expand on that. pass/fail Goal 3: BW movements. +1 STR +1 DEX - Yoga or 30min BW workout twice a week. A - 12+ workouts B - 10+ workouts C - 8+ Workouts F - 7 or less workouts Side quest: Buy a road/cyclecross bike. I can easily see myself becoming an underpants gnome when it comes to this. I am looking at an initial budget of around 1K for everything. I am planning on getting clipless pedals, the bike, an indoor stand/trainer, and a helmet. The hard part is going to be budgeting this around the fact that we are about to get a dining room table and I’m thinking of investing in a language program for my next challenge! EDIT secondary side quest: be more active on the challenge portion of the forums! ive become quite active in the other sections and have even started down a RP thread (which ive never RP'd anything before) Motivation: in the past year I have gotten lazy and am now the heaviest I have ever been in my life. Looking back to what I was when I graduated boot camp to what I am now is a big kick in the ass. The wife also wants start trying for children and we are both working to get in shape and get a good base lifestyle down prior to having any children.
  4. Thank you! I heard about this series from my old Gunny a few years ago and was intrigued. Since then I have forgotten about this series and was trying to remember it a few weeks ago!

  6. The dreaded double post strikes again!
  7. As the group is traveling towards the clearing Rowan thought to himself; I wasnt planning on trying to slay this beast, but this is an odd group we have here and could prove to be quite entertaining. As Bronan walks off Rowan smiles and chuckles to himslef. Rowan remarks to Gorth "Might not want to piss him looks like he ripped the leg off of the last guy who did and is now using it as a weapon. Ha!" Rowan pulls his great sword out of its sheath just enough to make sure it is loose and will unsheath when needed.
  8. or if it starts to expand have perma-death if/when you die someone else comes in.
  9. I almost ate some Balut when i was in the PI, but saw a buddy of mine take one bite and throw up and said nope. There is always Afghan food which the first time i ate it made me sick, i was a fan of the "foot bread" (Afghan naan) and there was this bread thing stuffed with all manner of strangeness and meat which was great. I never was around when they had camel though i was willing to try it. When i was in Korea im pretty sure i ate some sort of cat curry which was pretty good. this one isnt really weird, but since i HATE seafood i count it. I tried all maner of sushi while in Japan to include one with little orange fish eggs which further proved my distaste for seafood. I was on the hunt for Fugu, but didnt find out about the place on Okinawa until after i left and was quite pissed. then all manner of street food in Thailand, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines which i will never know what was in it and never asked because it was good and i didnt want to know.
  10. Welp here is my first go. (completly out of comfort zone now woot) From the woods emerges a human male of average height. As he clears the last set of trees you notice he is of above average build, but neigh near the hulking mass that is the other human. You can tell that his face is one that is quite average and could easily blend into a crowd with the exception of his thick brown hair which hangs to his shoulders and the thick beard which is common in the northern lands. He is clad in chainmail and has a great sword sheathed to his back with a wooden shield as well. A thick leather belt holds hand axe on his left and several throwing axes to balance the heft of the axe on the right. “Hail fellow travelers. What’s this I hear about the dismemberment of evil things? Rowan Gunnarsen, Nordic fighter and wander here. I have wandered to long by-myself and since we all appear to be going to the same place I offer my sword and axes to the cause if you will be having me.â€
  11. still figuring out how i want to go about the introduction.... starting info: Human Fighter STR: 19 DEX: 15 CON: 15 INT: 11 WIS: 13 CHA: 8 im stil trying to figure out the feats and skills...
  12. I got it played it for about a month, but found i dont have the time to sink into such a MMORPG and have a bad history with them specifically WoW so i dropped it. I loved the game it felt like an elder scrolls game and i thought it was nicely done, but i just dont have the time to sink into it when i have to pay month to month.
  13. I need to take a look at the patherfinder site at home, because everything ive seen thus far is books you have to pay for.
  14. im interested, but dont have access to the sheet right now damn government computers! As the closet thing to any of these I have ever played is Magic the Gathering and a couple of MMORPGs (never on an RP server) I am a complete Newb. I did almost start a D&D game got as far as looking up character classes and races, but then no one had time and everyone moved away like 2 weeks later...
  15. Mine is Einherjer. not bad for only getting 3 of the players i wanted and was not expecting that performance from M. Ryan!
  16. So I'm not going to say this challenge was a complete wash, but it wasn't very good. My goals were good and achievable, but my focus wasnt completely there. I've also been getting settled into the new job. I've made some progress with my running and food choices, but it is still to inconsistent. For my next challenge I'm going to keep a lot of the same goals some may be modified and changed or revamped all together. I will be reseting my 5k plan on Monday.
  17. O performing what? Let me know what day/days and we'll head out. I'm thinking of getting the season thing for the va one since it's so close.
  18. im not a roleplayer, but have always been intrigued by D&D and have been willing to give it a shot, but most people I know and are friends with are not the typical types to be interested in anything "nerdy" or "odd/strange" so my only real option for playing would be in an online community.
  19. since the majority of people are spread out so far this could be an option to get something rolling in the NF community. http://roll20.net/
  20. sweet! since the VA one is within 15 miles of where i live im MUCH more flexible on the dates for the VA renfest!
  21. they dont allow swords though..... anyone interested in the VA one come MAY ish its down in Spotsy (Fredericksburg area)
  22. i would love to break out my gear again since i have about 3 grand worth of gear (paid less than 2k for it all since our team in Okinawa was sponsored)! it is also great exercise.
  23. hell ya NERF war FTW! I Played a TON of paintball while in Japan, but havent really picked it up again since i came back stateside. the worst are the neck and head shots.
