So I missed my class last night because I left work too late...did some hill sprints instead. I decided to catch the same class this AM instead...I got up at 5:30 in the Awful Morning. Gross. Ha

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking in My first week went pretty well! I was a little short on my goals, but I took it easy as I was still pretty sore from the Half-Marathon. I did some body-weight stuff on Tuesday, push-ups, dips, and started working on negative pull-ups because that's something I'd like to achieve. On Thursday I took a "bootcamp" class at my Rec center; it was a mix of free-weight lifts and high-intensity intervals. It was awesome! Just what I was looking for. I think I could have added some more weight to the lifting part, but I was being conservative and will definitely up things this week. But man, was I sore! I actually put off lifting again until tonight (another class), because my muscles were just on fire. I did some sprints on Saturday though, and that actually seemed to loosen things up a bit. Anyone have any recommendations about soreness? Ha. As far as meditating goes, it's been challenging to center myself in the right mindset. I did find these two articles, which have given me great things to think about. Excited for my class tonight! Hopefully it doesn't murder me as much this time :3

Pics or links? How does it compare with a Gerber, if you're familiar with those?

Fest was great! TokiMonster really rocked my world, and another female DJ from Germany...Ellen something? Squarepusher was also deliciously weird as usual. I also am finding the new DaftPunk album to be excellent for workouts

Not really. Right now I'm coming off of a half-marathon, so I think I'm going to keep the running up, just incorporate sprints and shorter running time. One of my favorite things to do is find a song I like with a good chorus and sprint the choruses Some of the gym classes (bootcamp, bodypump, etc.) I intend to catch after work also incorporate intervals. The nice thing about them is that they're pretty easy to include into whatever you want...just bust your ass for a few and then take a break! Why, the other awesome Steve on this site has a pretty good guide I'm going to work with

Living and Eating on a Tight Budget

Get produce when it's on sale and freeze it! Get healthy whole-grain bread when it's on sale and freeze it! Dry beans and bulk foods are way cheaper....you can cook them ahead of time and freeze them or can them for easy meals later. If you're not shy, ask around at grocery stores or your local farmer's market if they sell damaged but edible produce at discounted rates. Then freeze it. I'm a huge fan of make-ahead. Take a few hours out of one day and just cook up a bunch of stuff and freeze it for later (Waffles and/or pancakes are great for this). Slow cooker and/or crock-pot meals are also great for busy people. Here are some insanely easy, mostly vegetarian friendly meal ideas: http://eatmorebroccoli.tumblr.com/post/39502438645/52-healthy-meals-in-12-minutes-or-less-greatist -

Make sure you're getting the most out of your cardio. There are many many studies that say that HIIT (high intensity intervals) are WAY more effective at burning fat than longer duration, lower intensity sessions. (You want more studies? I got more. You can show them to your trainer! )
