  1. Still going strong. Missed a couple walks butane up for it with some pickup basketball. I know it's no substitute for consistency, but it was fun. :-)
  2. Two weeks in a row and I'm on point. I feel great. I never realized how inflexible I was, or maybe just stiff. But I realized a few days while I was tying my shoes how easy it was. It dawned on me that I was a lot more limber than I was used to. I feel good, this week was easier than last week. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's now a habit. But I feel like I'm in a groove. Onward and upward!
  3. Thanks LynnyLee! This week was pretty good. I don't know if my little goals are enough to set lifelong habits. But I like knowing that I'm doing something good for my body. I managed to do all my exercise, eat pretty well (only one takeout meal!). Feeling good!
  4. Finally home for a few days. That's about the only good news. I've hit a wall and I hate it. So yesterday I went to the dog park with my son. We played with our dog for over an hour. It was SOOO nice to break a sweat and shake some of the rust off. I'm gonna keep this up. Somehow.
  5. Hi everyone. I'm out of town on business. Unfortunately I have t gotten enough exercise this week. And I've definitely been eating out a lot. To be honest, I miss cooking. I'm trying to make good choices. But I wish I was still able to keep up with all my goals. Thanks for all the great responses and encouragement! Onward & upward!
  6. Hi everyone. I didn't forget to update last night, but I didn't get home from a graduation party until late. Forgive me. Week one was good. Tough, but good. I did eat out more than twice, but I made sure to keep things light and avoid a glut of carbs or fried foods. Actually, it was a Chipotle salad bowl for dinner one night and a grilled chicken sandwich another night. We're house-hunting, so when we go on a viewing it makes dinners hard to come by. Lunches were great, though! I walked four times this last week and spent hours at the park yesterday with my son. So that was mission accomplished! Also, no liquid calories other than a nightly glass of 2% milk. This wasn't such a big deal since I don't drink much sugar water anyway. tl;dr: week one was good, not great. Looking forward to week 2. Great to see how well everyone else is doing!
  7. I had the same thought, sicil! Great minds think alike :-) I planned out my dinners for the week. Making sure they would be enough for lunch the next day. It's only Monday night but so far so good.
  8. I have not used a slow cooker before. But I definitely want one. Great idea! Thanks.
  9. Hi everyone, I recently discovered NerdFitness and it's inspired to improve my health and my life. I'm 35, married with a great 2 year old son. I'm about 70 lbs overweight and I hate it. I've struggled with it my entire adult life. I'm generally healthy, relatively speaking. I eat a pretty balanced diet but sometimes overeat or boredom eat. I've also become very sedentary over the past few years which has seen me get pudgier and pudgier. I'd try to do better. But it always resulted in failure. I realize now it was because I tried to do too much; changing my entire life and routine overnight. It just didn't work. I'm hoping structured, achievable goals compounded will be the key to finally losing weight, getting my energy back and looking better. This is my first challenge. I'm excited and a little nervous. I want this to succeed. My goals are too easy not to. 1. Walk for at least 30 minutes four times a week. That's it. Just get up, grab the dog's leash and walk for half an hour four times. 2. Only eat out twice a week. Over the past two months I've been bringing my lunch to work each day and it's been working out great. It's just a habit now. Dinner is another story. My wife and I tend to eat out about 3 times a week. So I want to only eat out twice, lunch or dinner. Weekends included. 3. No liquid calories, except for a glass of milk each night. Otherwise it's water or iced tea (unsweetened, of course). The milk is something I've always done and I just don't want to give it up. I'm not a big soda or juice drinker but I do have them occasionally. I'm lucky that I'm not hooked on the sweet stuff. But I want to make sure it's out of my system completely over the next six weeks. 4. I want to keep you guys updated every week. I'm going to come into this thread and update it every Sunday night. I need and want accountability. I promise to be honest and if I mess up I will post it right away. Otherwise, you'll get a weekly update from me. Thanks for your time and support. It's a really cool community and I'm looking forward to becoming a part of it. I hope you're working towards your goals and achieving them. If anyone needs someone to talk to, vent to, etc. I'm here for you guys. Thanks for being there for me.
