So this is my very first challenge, and even post on this site. I frequently start to diet/exercise but after a week or two lose interest and become my normal and complacent self, and honestly I'm sick of it. I looked at a few other first timer posts and just decided to write it out like this. I'm 21, Male, 5'6" and 134 pounds. I walk 8 hours a day at the hospital for my job moving patients, and I've been vegan for two years now. And I absolutely hate running more than anything else. I have no cardio whatsoever. I'm very complacent, non-confrontational, and submissive. I would like to change all of that. SO! My goals for my first challenge are these. 1. Do my morning run without stopping. I don't know exactly how long it is, although i'm sure I could googlemaps it and find out, but basically there is this long stretch of road in the wildlife park behind my house that goes a ways up, does a loop, and comes back down. It's uphill there, downhill back, and I want to guess a mile or two total but like I said I'm not sure. I've always hated running, but my mom is 43 and runs marathons every few weeks and I feel lame letting her beat me! So this one is my attempt to get my cardio up and get in better shape in that aspect. As part of this goal, I will be running every other day for the entirety of this challenge. 2. Register for some form of self defense class, and attend. I never really get in situations where I would need to defend myself, but I've been jumped before in the past and it ended poorly. As I said, I'm non-confrontational but I would still like to be able to defend myself should something happen again. At the risk of sounding like one of "those guys", I've heard that krav maga was purely about defense and getting out of situations as quickly as possible. I was thinking of going this route, but if anyone has suggestions for something else then I'm willing to listen to suggestions. 2. Due to financial reasons, it seems goal number 2 will be out of my price range. BAH! Way more money than I can afford right now. I really hadn't foreseen that. :/ Since it's so soon to the beginning, I would like to change that goal to incorporate improving my core strength through yoga and core exercises. My upper and lower is okay, but my core is just pathetic so I think this is a good alternative goal. I hope that's not against the rules :/ 3. Start eating healthy (again). As I mentioned, I've been vegan for a little over two years now. However, this doesn't mean I'm super healthy. I eat a lot of sweets still (yes, there are delicious vegan sweets) and drink... more than I should. Primarily, I would like to drop the sweets and cut back my alcohol consumption. But I would also like to start eating less. I'm a boredom eater, and I've been abhorrently bored as of late. To solve this, I've already started going out more and doing things, but I'd like to get out of my house even more to keep myself occupied and busy. 4. My final non-fitness goal is to finish my car. I have a '99 miata (not the manliest car, I know) that I have another engine, transmission, and a supercharger for. I've been slowly rebuilding them, but I've been putting it off because I procrastinate so badly. I've already measured everything out, lightened the crank for quicker spool, and really all I need to do is get a good torque wrench, new bearings and piston rings, hone the cylinders and put it all back together. Tranny has been rebuilt and the block and oil pan has been hot-dipped. So I would like to step up and finish this in the next six weeks. Anyways, those are my goals. If you have questions, comments, advice, or anything please post it This is my attempt at motivating myself to improve my quality of life and get back in shape. I hope to hear from all of you, and best of luck in your goals.
