  1. I have made strides today to get more analysis done for my main project this sprint. I have also decided on the specific part of the code I am wanting to look at to become a sme about. Which is nice. Day is not done yet though but strides and plans have been made.
  2. Most of today has been spent curled up in a chair at home trying not to puke, stressing out about tomorrow, doing work (which I did enough to feel good about working from home I guess), surfed the net (well mostly netflix and youtube). BUT! I did do some research on things for work that I been working on lately. and still no results but I am at a point where I need to go speak with someone else (like the people that worked on it). Dinner is heating up for tonight (leftover homemade chicken noodle soup that has been in the freezer for a little while), tomorrow and wednesday's lunch protein is currently in the oven cooking, dishes are done, and I am going to either steam some asparagus, back it, or wilt some spinach/chard/bok choy mixture for tomorrow's lunch. I have pulled out the protein for Thursday and Friday lunches (stuffed acorn squash)
  3. So! I have been thinkin' more and more about timesinks and unproductiveness in my days. And honestly, the Internet is my biggest timesink, seriously -- I spend HOURS on it and a large portion of it ISN'T useful stuff -- it's such mindless web searching. Sadly enough. So I am going to give a basic breakdown of my weekdays (M-F), maybe I can find some openings to do something good for my life! My weekdays vary most weeks due to the wife's schedule, I will out an * near those times with the changes in italics: Up by 0530 -- shower, prep for the day 0600* -- if wife has work: make sure wife and daughter are up 0630* -- Out the door, drop daughter off at daycare If wife works later this is the earliest her and my daughter gets up 0645* -- get dropped off at work If wife works later this is the latest we leave the house by 0800 -- Meeting 0830 -- Meeting 0900 -- Meeting 1130-1300 -- lunch (no I don't take the full hour and a half, it usually starts in that area.) 1400 -- Meeting (usually) 1500 -- Meeting (60% of the time) 1630-1730 -- Leave Office to pick up daughter and head home (the range in which I leave the office) 1800 -- latest I can pick up my daughter from daycare 1830-1900 -- cook dinner, do dishes, start laundry 1900-2000 -- eat dinner 2030 -- get daughter a bath and ready for bed 2100 -- daughter's bedtime 2100-2200* -- my wife and me time. Varies on my wife's work schedule 2200-0530* -- sleep (usually in bed and asleep between 2200 and 0000) Varies on what time I go to sleep when my wife gets home/etc
  4. hii Syren! -swoops and and hugs-
  5. The timesinks I need to find out WHAT they are completely and if they really are timesinks at this point or are they useful to my job/well being. Productive Habits is a whole other beast and I have not yet determined what I am going to do beyond just pick up studying the part of the overall project I am apart of and learn it from end to end to help limit the gaps of time without use well at work and then try my hardest to use my calendar and the set timeblocks for chores.
  6. Had a few doctors appointments yesterday and today, got two more next week and one more the week after. Was supposed to go in post-appointment to work, but just not feeling good. dizzy, lightheaded... Blegh. Working from home isn't easy though lol.
  7. ell... My last three challenge attempts just... Flopped. Lets try again! Lol I have been looking more and more into time management and productivity. I have noticed a lull in productivity in my daily job and overall life. It has resulted in me feeling I dont accomplish things, have no direction, etc. It sucks. Over the years I have tried a number of common things, that normally do work... But lately they haven't been... To do lists, time blocking, appt scheduling, kanban, etc. Well I KNOW the ideas work. AND some of those habits still exist in my life. I literally use Google Calendar to block time. My work schedule, wife's work schedule, Izzy's daily schedule as best as I can... Appointments, important meetings, etc. I even go as far as common daily tasks like cooking dinner, commuting to/from places, bedtimes (i will go in detail on this later if people want me to), bills... It... Kinda works still. There are parts in my calendar I think I can remove but I still want to account for those blocks of time. Like a deadspace of availability. To-do lists help to some extent but not all that well anymore, most times I am without tasks and can't find a task to fill those deadspots of My workday for instance... I work 8-9 hours a day - of those hours maybe 2 hours max a day are meetings, a max of an hour lunch, and if I am lucky I have a singular task to work on for a couple of days... And then nothing. Work wants me to apply myself to become a smee (expert) on something in the larger project but I can't align myself on a specific part --- Which would then fill those massive deadspace of potential useful blocks of time. On top of that, outside of work I spend most of my time lately surfing the web trying to find ways to improve my productivity which leads to being unproductive and the feeling of useless continues... What time I do see available in my calendar is minimal during the weekdays and super abundant during the weekends... Which in itself doesn't sound bad...BUT I cannot figure out how to be... Productive during that timeframe. I am big on technology, it is what I did as a passion growing up, what I got my degrees from college, and ultimately what I am doing for a living. It also has carved out a huge passion and a HUGE goal I would love to accomplish. I have huge goals that tend to make me forget how to break them down into smaller pieces to handle and therefore be productive. I want to be a good father, husband, employee, software developer. A good me. But I also want to have a sense of accomplishment and productivity in my daily life as well. I know my goals aren't scouty but I have always been a scout when I came and found a guild to be apart of and felt good with. 1. Pick a part of the big project at work and learn it. Like fully. One Hour a day. Five days a week. 2. Plan my schedules better. I am gonna go off my wife's work schedules as that is easiest. 3. Start limiting my timesinks and maximizing productive habits. 4. Smile.

  9. I... Keep slacking. HELP! SAVE ME! Anyone here that wants to help a nerd back to the ways of the Rebels?
  10. I am... Back? ... Yeah! I am back. =D Gods i have been bad. Last challenge I attempted was July? Things got... hectic. Death int he family, life blew up. Things getting crazy... So starting over.. again, 1 goal at a time. Well, Let's rename that to habit. 1 Habit at a time. I am gonna start with food. I am bad with food. Need to get better with food. SO! With that said, my habit to build: I will eat only 7 pieces of hardcandy a day. I purchased two bags of caramels to stash in my drawer at work for those I want to suck on something for the sake of it. And I would eat a ton of them in a short period of time... Daily. Well, three or four within an hour every three hours or so. Most days. So my goal now. I work 8AM to 5PM with an hour lunch. So that leaves me with 8 hours around lunch, of those 8 hours I am never hungry before 9AM, just don't ever want to eat... I drink coffee, that's it usually. So from 9 to 5 I am going to allow one piece of candy an hour. If I eat more than that one piece of candy an hour I cannot go over my 7 pieces a day.
  11. Thanks pineapple. Today: Slept 5h Food tracking going good Steps last I checked 6k... Ish >>Need to recharge band tonight<< Schedule stuff going... Ok it isnt really happening
  12. Slept in today. 8.5 hrs. Still walking around. Tracking food. Yesterday I slept 6.5hrs, walked 4.5I steps. Tracked food
  13. I average about 5.5 to 6.5 hours during the week. Weekend's I somehow get 8+ consistently So honestly I don't feel like I am getting enough
  14. Scouts had minis at one point but not a lot participated
  15. Here's a recap of the last week, just so I don't forget it: Since I posted this thread I have done the following consistently: 1. Tracked 2/3rds or more of all my food and beverage intakes. 2. Walked at least the 6k goal placed on my Jawbone UP, I hit 6.5k daily, average about 7.1k steps a day. I upped my goal last night to 7k a few hours before bed... Still killed it. So here's to seeing if I can do 7k a day. 3. Sleep is being tracked, still averaging around 6hrs a night. 4. Schedule... I may have to figure this one out more... Here is a bit of my current situation: I am a software developer for Walmart, I started here recently and I have a 8-5 job Monday through Friday that allows for a mixture of moving around and sitting but mostly sitting. The company seems to approve of physical activity and I say that because they are involved with a ZP challenge and have a three floor massive gym for employees at a reasonable price. They are big on biking as they have bike racks all over their campus (which stretches pretty much across the city of Bentonville). Outside of work though I am a father, we try to have a set schedule for things which involves: Wife's job, Daughter's Daycare, Dinner, Bathtime for Izzy, Bedtimes for all three of us. We have a roommate who lives with us and he is reasonable and kind enough to bring me home and pick up Izzy from daycare if wifey doesn't get out of work before 1800, which happens quite a bit actually. So far my weekdays look something like this, it isn't entirely accurate though: Up by 0600 - get dressed and around 0630 to 0700- take Izzy to daycare (we try for earlier, usually never happens 0705 to 0715 - drive home/work depending on wife's schedule 0715 to 0730 - if not home still driving to drop me off to work, traffic sucks. If going home, quick nap/get ready for the day. 0730 to 0800 - drop me off to work if we went home 0800 to 1700 - work for me, varies meetings, lunch at 1200 1700 to 1800- if wife is out before work, she comes and picks me up and we get Izzy. Otherwise I wait for roommate/coworker and he takes me to pick up my daughter from daycare and we go home. 1830 to 1900 - get Izzy fed and make dinner/lunches for tomorrow 1900 to 1930 - eat dinner 1930 to 2000 - watch some tv 2000 to 2030 - bathtime and bedtime prep for izzy 2030 to 2100 - take izzy for walk 2010 to 2130 - lay izzy down for bed, get ready for bed. Izzy usually falls asleep closer to 2130 2130 to varies all the way to 0000 - watch tv spend time with wife. whenever we fall asleep to 0600 - sleep. get up periodically for izzy if she needs a drink or she has a nightmare, etc. It looks like a pretty packed day, but really that 0800 to 1700 is pretty empty, I can't leave work but I need to start utilizing my time better for both me and work. So far it is just sitting there banging head on table while I try to debug something (or in this case... Do nothing cause things aren't working for me) My weekends: Up by 0900 2000 to 2030 - bathtime and bedtime prep for izzy 2030 to 2100 - take izzy for walk 2010 to 2130 - lay izzy down for bed, get ready for bed. Izzy usually falls asleep closer to 2130 2130 to varies all the way to 0000 - watch tv spend time with wife. whenever we fall asleep to 0600 - sleep. get up periodically for izzy if she needs a drink or she has a nightmare, etc. I always feel like I am missing stuff there. Wife works periodically on weekends too. I will look into your guys suggestions and see what I can come up with. =D Thanks for the advice
  16. What I found that worked in the past for me are to do lists and calendar reminders... Problem is I goto figure out how to organize it all into my calendar to fit my life. To do lists just don't work anymore. So I need to do a deadline/eta setup now. Something that better fits my current lifestyle.
