  1. Yeah starbon, i think there's still time if you change ur mind. Just writing to report that i finished the taubes book! I got into it toward the end, so it wasnt that hard. And now, bedtime.
  2. @ $tarbon- yo! Hey there! Good idea with the heartbeat focus. I've been thinking about incorporating mindfulness into the runs, but havent actually tried anything yet. Something seems to switch on automatically after mile 4, where my thoughts slow down and i become focused. Ive been thinking about getting there before mile 4, but it doesnt seem easy! Btw, where's your thread this challenge? @cb3 - its probably a good idea to wait until jumping into a new guild, but i got impatient! Yeah, running with dogs is great. Thanks for stopping by! @ l'irlandaise, cake, and sicil... thanks for reminding me that a 9 minute mile is relatively respectable, lol. Thanks for the pick me up.
  3. Hi CB3! I love your goals this time, particularly the one that involves workshopping your greater goals or interests. Also, you weight goals are hardcore! Your strength is impressive. And finally, it's exiting that you're making baby steps toward a regular running practice. I hope it works out, and serves you well!
  4. I saw a recipe recently and thought of you. It's a recipe for water You take a pitcher of water and add: a few slices of cucumber, fresh mint, and a few slices of lime. From a book called The Naked Kitchen. I haven't tried yet, but it looks pretty good...
  5. Across internet land, my heart aches for your broken coffee pot. Yeah, that part really got me. Not a great way to start the day. Congrats on the cool postal service job offer, it sounds like it could be fun. I don't know what your situation is, but I'm all for refusing a job if it isn't the right job. You wouldn't want to be a warrior if your true profession is scout, right? (Aside: Knowing your history on NF, that might actually appeal to you, but anyway...) On the other hand, money is MONEY. I'm sure you'll pick the right thing to do for you and your family. If that means sacrificing a race, there will be other races in your future. It sucks, but in the scheme of things, it's not a big deal and you could do it that way if you have to. As I was writing that, I remembered a mail carrier who used to actually RUN between houses. He was incredibly buff looking compared with the average mail carrier. There's a lot of potential there...
  6. ^^ Thanks, L'irlandaise! Happy to have your support. I usually don't time myself, and I usually don't run on a track, but I did both today. I was running on this cool inner-city unpaved trail that is exactly 1 k, so I was able to to get a time for my 5 k---- 28 minutes! I feel pretty good about that. It means I'm running about a 9 minute mile, which is cool. But immediately as I was doing the calculation, my husband walked up and said, "I remember in track and field in high school, everyone was aiming for a 5 minute mile!" So I felt really good, and then I felt a little bit bad. Whatevs.
  7. Oh, cool, a full marathon~! That's so exciting. It's one of my long term goals
  8. How do you feel after your 1 mile run? Kind of soar, or good? If you feel soar, seems like you should wait before increasing... but if you feel ready to go, then do it!
  9. I'm feeling somewhat unmotivated to run, but really, how can I say no to this face? I've been carrying around bags for him, tucked into my running outfit, but I realized the other day that he can carry his own bags!
  10. I've had fun reading through your thread. Sounds like you chose some good goals! If your feeling soar and sluggish, maybe take a couple days to recover so you can start again, feeling strong? Re: fattening your partner: I laughed out loud when I read this, because I do the same thing. I am the main cook of the house. When I was cooking non-paleo foods, both my husband and I gained a lot of weight! Then I went on a diet, and even though he did not formally go on any diet, he became visibly leaner as a result of my diet change. Just goes to show...
  11. A perfectly reasonable and motivating sentiment. I can relate to that one
  12. PS, I checked out the precise nutrition page, and I approve... especially after reading this article http://www.precisionnutrition.com/best-diet It's hard to find people talking about diets without all of the religiosity. I love hearing the message, "different things work for different people," because that is the truth. Hope it works out for you! Keep us posted
  13. Glad to hear your goals are going swimmingly I love homemade yogurt, it's pretty cool that you do that...
  14. I'm glad you guys like the foam roller idea. I think I bought mine for $10, it was a good purchase... I'm giving myself a MINI CHALLENGE. I've been trying to finish Gary Taube's Why We Get Fat for a little over a month now, and I'm struggling to get through it. It's causing a traffic jam in my reading, with multi-book pile ups, etc. I'm about half way through it, and I just have to finish reading it. The goal: to finish it by Saturday at 5 pm. I'll award myself +0.25 WIS if I get it done. Otherwise, I'm just going to put it down and move on.
  15. It's not the most comfortable thing, but it probably isn't anything compared with the physio you were up to last challenge... I'd give it 2/10 pain. And you can of course adjust by how much you hold back/give into it @ L'irlandaise, yay for making positive changes! I have upper back stuff going on, too. for me, the biggest hurting happens when I roll my IT band.
  16. You wore a groove in the path! That's pretty hardcore, tankgirl
  17. That salad is so pretty! I wish I had seen that post a few days ago. I was trying to figure out what to do with 5 lbs of beets. I'll have to remember it for next time
  18. Wow! How long is the race? You can doooo ittt!
  19. Oh, yum, thanks for sharing! The recipe looks easy, maybe I'll give it a try. I like ferments that do not require a whey starter... cause I tend not to have dairy around my house:)
  20. Oh sicil, I am so sorry to hear about your ulcer! Glad the meds are working, hope it heals quickly for ya. Your goals look really good. I like your "life goal" of strengthening your social circle. Sounds fun!
  21. @ Shukar: I like that, "the asylum." I'll check out that book, it sounds right up my alley. @ L'irlandaise: Thanks for finding me! I missed your comments and fun banter during the interim time Challenge Day 1 Update I am so excited that the new challenge has finally started! It's like the first day of school, or something I updated the "starting stats" in my first post, because I've lost a little weight and bf% in the two weeks since I wrote out my goals. Wooot! I ran 4 miles this morning, and it was great. The schedule this week tells me to run 3 x 4 miles, so I think it's supposed to be a recovery week. However, I'm thinking about rebelling and increasing my mileage to 8 miles on the long run day. What do you think? Any harm there? I've taken up a couple of myofascial release exercises with the foam roller, and I think I've seen a difference. It seems like I'm always at war with these angry little clumps of fascia, so I'll try anything that helps. Also, it's nice NOT to be in pain.
  22. Ohhhh, yum. Tell me about the fermented cabbage... is it a sort of kraut? What's different about it? And, do you make it yourself, or buy it at the store?
  23. Nice name, I love grit. I'm doing a half on Sept 21s, so I'm about 8 weeks away. What distance are your long runs these days? How's the training going?
