  1. Nooooo! Oh crap. Jeez... You're talking about the neck sprain, right? Do you know exactly how you did it, or did it just happen? I agree with you about the cooking/excuse thing. Also, you are completely right about the eating out/no food in refrigerator cycle. I eat out, because there's nothing in the fridge, then I have to keep eating out because there's nothing in the fridge. It's a poor excuse. In general, I need to become better at planning meals in advance. I'll try adding the pushups to my lifting days. Thanks for the suggestion. It makes more sense, now that I think about it. 60, that is amazing! 30 is also amazing. Heck, I think 1 is amazing. Yeah, the 100 pushup wagon is among the funnest wagons, IMO. I'll see if I can walk the walk (or push the pushup) starting tomorrow
  2. ^^ Mouth dropping open. 1500 kilos, wow! That sounds like hard work. The food sounds great, even tho not paleo. If you're going to not eat paleo, it ought to be something really delicious Nice work on your B+ !!!
  3. I love your food lists so far. It seems like you have a really well rounded paleo diet, with A LOT of delicious vegetables! The soup pictured above looks fantastic. What is in it? When you're hungry in between meals, do you snack? I allow myself snacks, but I find the longer I do paleo the less snacky I am. It seems like your food goal is going great. How are your other goals going?
  4. Wow, this is really good advice. I might need to quote you on this in the future.
  5. Look at you and your pushups! That's superb. I know from personal experience that it's pretty difficult to go from knee pushups to real ones. Anyway, really good job sticking to your workout plan
  6. Hahaha, thanks. We'll see. It's kind of a crazy thing to attempt, but it's worth trying. I think that working out by doing pushups is a great idea. You can do it anywhere, it works millions of muscles all over your body, and you look cool doing it. I also like the idea of training to do many. If I only go around doing 10 at a time, that isn't much of a workout... is it?!
  7. In a new twist, I've decided to add some pushups to my running days. 100 pushups, that is. MWA HA HA!!! http://www.hundredpushups.com/week1.html#sthash.GZX4AzR2.dpbs At this moment, I can do 10 pushups in a go. I foresee this conflicting with the other strength training I'm doing, but... maybe not too bad! I'll have to see how it goes, and if I'm suffering too much I'll add it to the next 6 week challenge. Honestly, I don't see how some extra pushups could hurt. They're just pushups! Right? ...Right??
  8. I'm going to do it! Will add to my running days. This is so exciting!!!!!
  9. From one amazon to another, hello! Your eating yesterday looks great. I like the idea of cabbage "spagetti," will have to try that one.
  10. Great blog. Yeah, I used to do that more. Now that I limit myself to ONLY paleo foods, it's easier. If it's not paleo, I don't even think about eating it... cause that's the rule I've trained myself to follow. Brownie case? Ignored. Haha.
  11. Excellent job on #4! Your park chin-up sounds really impressive. I hope you have fun running the 4 k!
  12. Ohhhhh that makes more sense. I'm a bit of a workout copycat and I tried to match your speed the other day on the treadmill, and only got up to 7.5 mph. You are very fast! Oh my goodness, you sprained a joint in your neck! I'm so sorry that happened! Yeah, I hope you are able to take it easy, that is no fun. You can always go back to the gym when you feel more ready.
  13. Wow, that's great! Glad you've already made some progress.
  14. Amazing work! A really huge congratulations to you. What a big accomplishment. !!!
  15. Any kind of deadlifting is really impressive. It looks like you have a great gym sequence, and that you're getting stronger!
  16. Ohhhh, well if it's a TOM thing there isn't too much anyone can do about that, is there? Haha. There might be ways to direct your cake events more toward paleo or low carb, but it's up to you. Sometimes, the real thing is the only thing that will do Don't know if you've read much of Mark Sisson's work, but basically his version of paleo (called primal) allows for 20% of food to be off diet. I think that's a pretty reasonable, sane way to think about eating paleo. It means you can have cake if you want it, as long as it isn't. You know. Every day. Some people even allow themselves an entire cheat day each week. Anyway, I know you're doing 90% paleo, which is similar. The paleo diet can feel extremely restrictive, and it's important to give yourself allowances to make it work for you. It seems like you have loads of stick-to-it-iveness and are doing a really good job juggling your NF goals with a busy schedule. Keep up the good work!
  17. Love seeing all those A's. Great work. Yeah, I've heard smoke in the air can cause you to sleep in... Hahahaha
  18. I love this. "We are trying to build grit-" That's certainly a fun way of thinking about it. Thanks so much for the kind words. I was doing synthetic organic chemistry, then I moved on to compliance, and now I'm focusing on alternative energy. Hop, hop, hop! It's nice to meet another scientist. I know! I like how the article disputes the thermodynamic model of calories in-calories out. There are so many things about obesity we don't know. It's true, we all eat crap sometimes. It's a little funny because when I read that you drank a beer, I thought, "Oh, that's no big deal!" But if I was the one drinking the beer, I would freak out. I think this is something I need to work on- not being a perfectionist all the time. There's a fine line between being on a strict diet and dissordered eating, and I really want to be on the healthy side of the line. Thanks for the support, I think I just needed to vent a moment of frustration before moving on to the next thing. I went for a 6 mile run yesterday, surpassing my goal for the week. I've been to the gym to lift twice. I'm clearly getting stronger and faster. I kicked the rowing machine's ass today! I also cooked a giant meal yesterday with lots of healthy leftovers, so I should be good on food for a little while.
  19. Oh, and I forgot to post a link to this great article I just read: http://www.aeonmagazine.com/being-human/david-berreby-obesity-era/ All this work we're doing, it makes an important difference in each of our lives, individually. But it's interesting to think of the obesity epidemic in terms of its societal causes and implications. A long but very good article.
  20. Thanks, you're so nice. Well, I didn't get to do the bike ride. Thanks, yo. Just going around, dominating some things. Woot! Also, thanks, Sicil. I'm updating because I've become somewhat dispondent wrt my goals. What goals! Who needs goals! So I'm writing to try to get myself to stick to them. Accountability, you know. I'm eating total crap. I've been on the go and eating a lot of deli meat and disgusting hemp protein shakes instead of quality protein, along with, *gasp,* some dairy. Honestly, a little dairy isn't going to kill me, and it's nearly impossible to avoid when relying on store-bought salads. I go for the ones topped with blue cheese, because I figure that's more paleo than American cheese. Blue cheese is way more caveman. Ha, ha. Hopefully I'll get around to cooking tonight, although I'm feeling kind of uninspired. Cooking, who needs it? Worked out at the gym last night. Right now, I'm feeling kind of anxious and like I need to run... which is great, cause it's a running day. I should go running ASAP. Will I, tho? That's another story. Okay, update over. Hopefully I'll have better news in the next one.
  21. Wow, really good job! Keep up the good work!
  22. Great job working out! Looks like you are sticking to it and improving. That's admirable. Your cake thing reminds me of a pie thing I used to have. Specifically, it was blackberry pie, and specifically the cravings would take hold of me late at night. I don't have that anymore, but it was really bad for awhile. I think being on the paleo diet has helped, along with a fierce adherence to paleo substitution plan. For example, when I'm craving blackberry pie, I load up of the raw paleo equivalent, fresh blackberries. At some point, the cravings vanished without a trace. Blackberry pie still sounds delicious, but it isn't something I HAVE TO HAVE. I wonder if maybe you've already tried breaking your cake habit into its essential mechanism. What is it about the cake that you need? Are you craving the sugar, the fat, the assembly/way it looks, the texture, the CHOCOLATE, etc? Are you eating cake for its sentimental value in your life? Maybe you've already covered all of this, sorry if I missed it.
  23. Aha! Now I understand everything. I, too, was in gradschool in the sciences (organic chemistry). On the upside, better the issues come out during group meeting instead of while you're defending something. Now you can anticipate what they'll complain about when it counts.
  24. I was confused on where to pull, everyone says something different. When I row, I *want* to work my back muscles, so I will follow this advice. Have you guys checked out this website? It's pretty great. You can say, "I want to work that one little strand of muscle nestled between my quad and my femur," and it will tell you what to do. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
