  1. I know it might be a little lame, but when I'm in a social drinking situation that goes on for a while, sometimes I alternate drinking beer and drinking water. (So for every beer I drink, I drink a glass of water, and then I go back to a beer and so on...) You could also drink seltzer instead (since it looks like it could be a vodka tonic or something similar) if you're self-conscious about what other people think. If you've never tried that before, consider giving it a try next time you're in a social drinking setting. Cuts those empty calories in half!
  2. Ehh, not the best. I've been feeling a little depressed for the past few days and that has seriously messed with my motivation. I know I will feel better if I get out there and run, but since Sunday, all I want to do when I get home is lay in bed and watch tv. I'm still trying to get back on track, but I tend to be way too hard on myself, so I'm trying to stay balanced between not rationalizing my way out of exercise and not making myself feel terrible for missing some days. I have dinner plans tonight with a friend I haven't seen in a while, so hopefully that will lift my spirits enough to get back on track! Thanks so much for checking in. It means a lot! How have you been doing?
  3. Hi Lovesquared! I saw your name on the accountibilibuddies list and I was wondering if you'd like to be buddies? I'm also running a 5k in October (my first one) and I'm currently training for it. My quest post is here if you're interested in reading about my goals and stuff. Let me know what you think
  4. Thanks for the support, Phatkid! I have really loved paleo, as weird as that might sound to someone who hasn't tried it. I highly recommend Steve Kamb's ebook about paleo which you can get here for free. I have actually turned a few people onto paleo by sharing it.
  5. Good luck in your quest! I love that you have a specific grading system for how often you go to the gym. Also, I'm on myftinesspal (my username is nataliemarta) if you're looking for friends there.
  6. I started the last 6-week challenge, but fizzled off pretty quickly. I'm feeling more optimistic this time because I signed up for an accountibilibuddy. I'm hoping that some extra accountability will help me! Main Quest: To run a 5k Specific Goals: 1) Train for a 5k (using Zombies 5k) at least three times a week 2) Sign up for a 5k to run in the next 6 weeks 9/18: Pulled the trigger and signed up for a 5k on October 27th!!! 3) Walk to work and back at least twice a week Remaining Zombies Workouts: Week 3, Workout 3 Completed 9/18, 5.29 km, average pace 9:11 min/km Week 4, Workout 1 Completed 9/20, 5.66 km, average pace 9:02 min/km Week 4, Workout 2 Week 4, Workout 3 Week 5, Workout 1 Week 5, Workout 2 Week 5, Workout 3 Week 6, Workout 1 Week 6, Workout 2 Week 6, Workout 3 Week 7, Workout 1 Week 7, Workout 2 Week 7, Workout 3 Week 8, Workout 1 Week 8, Workout 2 Week 8, Workout 3 Life Side Quest: To get a second part time job to supplement my pitiful non-profit salary Motivation: I've been eating paleo since mid-June and it really changed my life. I did 30 days strict paleo to start and since then I've been a little less rigorous. Once I started eating paleo, I've had so much more energy and a newfound desire to move more. I've always wanted to be a runner but I feel very out of shape, so I thought 5k training would be a good way for me to ease into it. I've done 3 weeks work of training over the past 2 months, but now I want to get into a solid routine with no excuses. My biggest motivation for wanting to run is to be active. I want to be more fit and toned. Also, I want to get into healthy routines and habits now before I start a family in a few years. It's important to me to be a good role model once I have kids. Quest Log: 9/18 - Just finished a great run. I'm feeling pretty proud of myself because I ran the entire first "free-form run" in today's workout. That plus the 1 minute run interval that came right after means I ran for 6 minutes straight. That probably doesn't sound like much to a lot of people, but when I first started C25K there were times when I was totally winded at the end of a 1 minute interval, so this is great progress for me! I'm a little worried that I won't be able to run the whole 5k without stopping by my Oct 27th race, but I guess I have to have more faith in the process. Now I need to eat some dinner! 9/21 - I took a look at my stats from my past run and despite feeling a little crappy while I was running, my average pace was a little better, so I'm excited! Tomorrow I will have to work out in the morning before work, so I would appreciate a lot of motivational vibes sent my way since I don't think I have ever successfully got up early and worked out before going to work. But I can't break my chain now, so I'm going to have to suck it up and do it!
  7. Riskva, where is the battle log forum you mention? My search skills seem to be failing me today.
  8. Hi, Fincayra, thanks for asking! The OPIc is a language proficiency test. So to be OPIc certified means I would complete training to review tests and assign ratings. It's a goal of mine because it would be a way for me to earn some extra income.

  10. Hi Everyone! I just joined Full Metal Penguins and I'm thrilled to be part of the team!! Here's a little about myself. I'll try not to ramble on too much... I'm 25 and I work for a non-profit organization in the world of language education. Unfortunately, it's a sit at a desk all day kind of job, so I'm making more efforts lately to be active outside of work. I live a mile and a half from my office, so when I'm feeling ambitious, I walk to work and back. Right now, my main goal is to become a runner, so I've started Couch25k and I'm determined to get through the whole program so I can run a whole 5k without walking at all. I've never been a very athletic person growing up, but I really want to change this about myself! I've been eating Paleo for about 5 weeks and I absolutely love it. Reading the NerdFitness Guide to Paleo has pretty much changed my life! In those 5 weeks, I've lost almost 15 pounds, just by changing my eating habits. Now I want to focus on adding in the fitness portion since that has always been more of a challenge for me in the past. I would really love some accountability when it comes to getting out to run or getting to the gym, so I wholeheartedly welcome my teammates to check up on me periodically! I see in the OP, a "daily battle log" is mentioned. Is there a template of some sort for this, or are team members making their own? Thanks!
  11. Thanks so much, ezekaiya! I'm excited because I've tried the Couch25k program twice in the past, but never got past the second week (mostly due to a lack of motivation). But now I'm in a good place and I'm feeling like this is my time!
  12. Main QuestTo run a 5K 3 Specific Missions1) I will do Couch25k 3 times a week.2) I will attend 2 classes at the gym/week.3) I will walk for at least half an hour if it’s not a gym/Couch25k day. Unfortunately, I could not get myself to get up and I ended up sleeping through my workout time AND sleeping through physical therapy. I have no idea what happened because I was really excited and motivated to get going with this challenge! I'm feeling pretty bummed out today because it's going to be impossible for me to get all three of my couch25k workouts in this week now that I missed this morning. Grr! I'm frustrated with myself. I wish I could magically turn myself into a morning person!
  13. Hello from another Newbie! I can definitely relate to having larger breasts and back problems. So many people say they wish they had my boobs, but they have no idea how much pain they cause! My only advice is make sure you have a really supportive sports bra. I actually wear two sports bras and in addition, a sports tank top that has a built in bra. That helps really compress them and keep them from bouncing around. I'm sorry to hear about your mother and mother in law. My uncle is currently fighting Leukemia and it seriously sucks. I'm sorry that you're going through that.
  14. Hey Metalhead, congratulations on your baby girl! I'm new here, too --just joined the forums a few minutes ago-- so I thought I'd say hello from another newbie!
