  1. Hey all, I'm a 22 year-old male, and this is my first official 6-week challenge. I've been focusing on eating a pretty decent paleo diet as of late, but I did regress a bit this past week, and with this new challenge I hope to develop more disciplined eating and fitness habits. So, at the end of these 6-weeks, I will be able to look at myself in the mirror and say "Self---" -"You went to the gym to weightlift or run/bike at least 3 days a week." -"You followed the paleo diet to near perfection and only allowed a 'cheat' meal 2 times a week." -"You kicked the energy drink habit!" Ultimately, my goal is to lose 10-15 lbs, but more importantly, I just want to be healthier. I think that accomplishing these goals will help me achieve my Main Quest: Looking at myself in the mirror (I guess I do that a lot?) and say "DAMN dude! You look good!" Best of luck to everyone else during their 6-week challenge. I can't wait to see the progress I've made at the end of this. -G
  2. Thanks for all of the great advice guys! I have already cut out the fruit, except for when I'm having sugar cravings (I had an apple at work because all of my coworkers were eating donuts...jerks.) I have started a strength training regimen, going to the gym 3 or 4 days a week. I am planning on doing some cardio on my off days as well. That being said, I'm finding it difficult to up my calories without increasing my carbs as well. I've started eating more beef and poultry, as well as several eggs throughout the day and maybe a protein shake somewhere in there if I haven't hit my protein number. I haven't gotten it quite right just yet, but I've been mixing things up and I'm sure I'll find a happy medium soon!
  3. Hello all, I've decided to take the plunge and start a paleo diet to lose weight. After doing quite a bit of research, it simply makes sense. However, I've come to realize that it's not quite as simple as "eat this, but not this." I wanted to get an idea of what kind of numbers I should be striving for. I'm 5ft 9in and roughly 180 lbs. Today was officially my first day, and I think I did a pretty good job of sticking to paleo friendly foods: Breakfast: 2 EB Eggs, scrambled 1/2 cup of mushrooms, diced 1 large banana Lunch: 1 (1.5?) Cups of asparagus, steamed 1 6oz. round steak 1 apple Dinner: 5oz can of tuna in water 1/2 avocado Snacks (throughout the day) 1 cup of trail mix 1 cup of baby carrots A few pieces of beef jerky I started tracking my food as well. Here are the rough estimates of nutrition for the day, depending on how accurate the app is: Calories:1930 Protein: 144g (I know I can increase this a bit, I'm just worried about...) CARBS: 176g Fat: 75g What I would like some help on is the number of carbs. If I'm trying to lose weight, I feel like I should try to keep my carbs around 100g a day, but I'm having a hard time with it and would like to know what kinds of foods are useful for supplying high amounts of protein and good fats, but low carbs. Also, are these numbers within the range you would expect for someone on a paleo diet? Are they weight loss friendly? I hope this post doesn't come off as too noobish (hell, who am I kidding, I am a noob at this). Any advice is welcome! Much love, SH
  4. Hey all, After spending the last few months thinking to myself, "Hey self, you're looking pretty terrible, why don't you start working out?," followed by a half bag of pizza rolls, I've decided that enough is enough. I'm currently 5ft 9in and around 185 pounds, meaning I would like to lose 20. I'm looking forward to the work ahead of me and becoming more comfortable with myself, the gym, and leading a healthier lifestyle. OH, and of course, making new friends along the way! Stefan H.
