  1. Week 1 Update! Q1: did IF twice, mealprep only once though Q2: I did a little work for this on tuesday at uni. Plus I had some WODs with wall ball/thrusters and pull-ups this week Q3: two practice sessions here Q4: everything documented for future knowledge and motivation!
  2. It has been about a year, since I last did a challenge. Lots of things have happened since then. But I thought I'd try this again. It's neither pretty nor shiny (maybe the next one will have a theme again), but it is a start. Quest 1 - Fuel the body you want (intermittent fasting, lunch prep) 1-3 IF days per week, ideally 2 lunch prep the evening before Quest 2 - Work on your weaknesses (Shoulder Press, Squats/Wall Balls/Thrusters, Pull-Ups/Rows) additional work on free days (not rest days!) Quest 3 - Heritage of an Assassin (Handstand practice) 4 times a week for at least 15 minutes Quest 4 - Document all WODs and other training sessions
  3. Well, this challenge didn't go as planned...... On the positive side (ignoring the fact that I totally abandoned the forums) I did very well with three goals (#3-5 to be exact) and life in general went good for the most parts these last weeks, too. Ah, get'em next time, tiger, right?

  5. I fixed it myself. Danke! A movie, or even better, a series would've been great. But highly unlikely with the storyline from Episode VII.... I refer you to my finished intro post! I copied it into the spoilers, for convenience, though: Exciting content, although some of the basics can be a bit.....hm, uninteresting is the wrong word. But like you know there is more interesting stuff coming soon. A lot of new people, obviously. Lots of them women. We've got our own campus, so no other subjects are taught here. I had a rocky start because I couldn't find an appartment (I actually moved in on the first day of classes), and because you were supposed to register for classes a week earlier, I wasn't registered for anything. Now, I spent the first two weeks pestering the professors to manually register me, which was not a problem for the lecture-style classes with a hundred-or-so people, but for the smaller seminars it took some persuasion (but now I'm all set...... I hope).

  9. November 2016 Challenge Hello Druids, for those of you who don't know. I'm Waldgeist, a 29 year old German guy. I've been mostly rolling with the Assassins but I feel that for my current situation this is the better place for me. Whats going on right now (the prologue, if you will): I moved to another state/city and enrolled in a university course to pursue a 3-year degree in 'Physical Activity & Health', because I was not happy with were my work life was headed. I had realized that I can't sustainably work an 9 to 5 office job, but I love working with people and teaching them/helping them to get better. Therefore, I decided to not just complain but make an actual change. The journey so far wasn't easy, there were times I thought I wouldn't make it, but I did and my new life officially started last week. Also I am living completely alone again for the first time in three years, which I don't mind but that gives me more options to live healthier. There is a lot to do, like get a part-time job, make new friends, finish moving (most of my stuff is still in my hometown), explore the city/college, not to mention the obvious, study, work out, eat healthy and don't let life get to stressful at the same time. Theme: This will be the Jedi Academy books including I Jedi (though they are no longer canon, they still have a special place in my heart). Main goal: Establish routines in a new environment Quest 1 "Study the the Force by its elements" GMB Elements I've done this programme before and it is a perfect base to establish an active practice routine. Goal is to do at least 3 sessions per week, bonus points if i do the recovering days in between sessions, too. Quest 2 "A Jedi must control his body as well as his mind" Flexibility This kind of overlaps with the first quest, since there is flexibility work in there, too. But I don't want to limit myself to those stretches. Goal is to do at least 4 sessions per week. Quest 3 "Working out with Keiran Halcyon" KB/bodyweight Workout Don't have my equipment right now, so this might be limited to push-ups and squats only for a while. Anyway, twice a week is the Goal here. Quest 4 "To be One with the Force" Relax As I mentioned above there is a lot going on right now, which means I need to remind myself to relax, be thankful, not to worry too much etc. Daily would be perfect, but I know myself so every second day shall be the Goal. Quest 5 "Jedi do not desire a luxurious life" Do IF & Eat clean My budget isn't that large anyway at the moment, so this shouldn't be too hard. After all, healthy cooking is way cheaper than eating unhealty pre-made stuff and not eating for a day (aka IF) is even cheaper, even if you eat a slightly bigger meal at the end of the fast. Goal is daily healthy eating with one or two IF days a week, but a small treat a week or two won't be counted as unhealty.

  13. Life happened, but I'm still alive. Just a bit unstructured. My grandparents old (at least 150 years) farm house will be leveled in the near future, so I was there a couple of times helping to get stuff out (either to be saved or trashed). Since its gonna be destroyed anyway we had some fun playing destruction ourselves, too. Also the course catalogue for the fall semester went online yesterday, so I also spent some time figuring out when I'll be doing what next semester. I'll put it in spoilers for those, who are interested: Anyway the timetable has a very good structure to work a part-time job on the side, since I've got two afternoons and one whole day free (plus saturday) to work and enough study time between classes.

  15. Week 1 Monday Quest 1 - Bodyweight Unexpected rest day. Quest 2 - Endurance Evening biking trip. Quest 3 - Eating - Quest 4 - Life Found some appartments and one job online, now I just have to get'em. Quest 5 - Prestudy Today: the cardiovascular system!

But did some BONUS KB swings (one-hand 16kg, two-hand 24kg, 50 reps each in sets of 10) Quest 2 - Endurance Also rest day Quest 3 - Eating Breakfast check! Rest of the day, not so good. Quest 4 - Life Not much happening on weekends. Quest 5 - Prestudy Read in Anatomy/Physiology, which on one hand is the most interesting of my textbooks, but on the other hand it is the one I'm learning the least from, because I already know much stuff.

  18. Summer of Change - Back to the Academy Backstory: I've had a calling all my life, and at last with the help of Kyle Katarn I figured out what it was. The Force is strong (enough) in me, so I shall attend the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV. This isn't my first academy experience, I've been trained as a New Republic spy at the Dantoine Academy. While the content will be pretty different now, at least I how know the wind blows in those kind of institutions. But others bring even better advantages with them (already having their own lightsabers, for example), which means I need to prepare my arrival, to be the best possible Jedi student I can be. GOAL: Be ready for the start of the semester! In exactly 8 weeks my first semester as a undergrad student in Physical Activity & Health is going to start. It is my second time as a university student, but in a completely different field this time. I am 29 years old, while most of my co-students will certainly be under 20. And since this is a sports/exercise science programm (albeit one with a heavy focus on science and medicine and little on performing sports ourselves) it probably attracts a lot of really fit people. Therefore my goal for this and the following challenge is to be ready in body and mind to have a great start. Quest 1: Bodyweight workouts every second day I'm using the 7 weeks to getting ripped template for this quest, because it has a good mixture of different bodyweight stuff. I started the 3 week prep part two weeks ago, which means I'll finish in 8 weeks. BONUS QUEST: Get some kettlebell work done in between If I have the time and energy, I'll do some kettlebell work, but it is not the main focus right now. Quest 2: Endurance workouts (almost) every day Not important what I do, just keep moving for 20 minutes or so. I've biked mostly the last two weeks, but hiking, skating, running or anything else is fine, too. Quest 3: Eat consciously That mostly means discerning real hunger and lust and then eat accordingly: not in between meals and not too much during meals. Also, I've started the habbit to eat at least one protein-rich meal (usually breakfast), which I want to keep up. Quest 4: Hunt down an appartment and a job If I don't get those two, I'm gonna live under a bridge come october. This should be motivation enough... Quest 5: Prestudy I've got two online precourses to work through, math and chemistry. The latter is very unorganised, so I got a textbook in the public library for that and while I was there I picked up som others, too: -Precourse Chemistry for Dummies -Mathematics for Science for Dummies -Physics for Dummies -Anatomy & Physiology for Dummies The goal here is to study something each day (textbook or online course), so I have at least in these core subjects a comparable amount of knowledge as the other students, who just finished school.
  19. I've got news from the insurance company. They reduced the monthly dues to the minimum from January onwards (only about 170 instead of 750 €), I payed it using some savings and everything is alright now, I guess. If you don't consider the fact, that I wanted to use that money for moving and the security deposit for my new appartment (which I still need to find). Nah, it'll work somehow, it always does!
  20. Did a quick bodyweight session today and biked around for about 45 minutes. My meals were also pretty good, minus a cookie or two after dinner.
  21. So true. I'll be sure to give regular updates about what I study, to make you jealous. And I'll try that technique the next time I get anxious, thanks. I just spent an awesome weekend with my best friend. I stayed at his and his girlfriends place and we were playing board or computer games most of the time, watching movies (looking fo easter eggs) or just talked. That is also a good relaxation technique! But now it is time to get back to reality. After the enrollment stuff is taken care of, priority number one is the job/appartment search. Priority number two is an online pre-course my university advises future students of my programme to study before the semester starts. It is about chemistry and math, which I haven't really studied since 2007 (math) and 2005 (chemistry), so a brush-up would actually be nice. But I can only start that after I got my matriculation number, which will hopefully be sometime this week. I just got it! I'm officially a student again starting in October. Priority number three is to be fit when classes start (exactly ten weeks from today). Since it is basically a sports studies/exercise science programme it probably attracts a lot of people who were very athletic throughout their (young) life, and I didn't discover the joys of exercise until my twenties and the most popular sports still elude me. Plus the average age will likely be 8-10 years below mine. So, in order to not look like afool amidst the 18 to 20 year old jocks I need to keep working out regularly and have a good nutrition! Priority number four is to downsize, I got a (surprising) amount of stuff, which needs to be categorized into stuff I take with me and stuff I need to get rid of and then I have to get rifd of it. I already started this a couple of weeks ago, but it is far from over, and depending on the size of the appartment I'll get I may even have to increase the downsizing, even though I may be able to put some stuff in storage. Well, those are the goals not only for now, but at least the next two challenges, too (10 weeks to be exact, like I wrote earlier). This challenge didn't really work out, the application/enrollment stuff dominated everything and everything else pretty much fell off the table. But those new four goals need to happen till October and they will!
  22. Letters get printed and sent automatically, but for a call, an actual person has to do work. Which costs money. That is the only logic, I can see here. And I'm not happy about it, even from an objectice point of view.
  23. Life is a rollercoaster right now. My stress levels are bouncing up and down, like they're all over the place. Luckily in the second year of the programme there is actually a class about relaxation techniques and stuff, I actually could've used that now.
