  1. Between Week 0 and Week 1 you have to change, that's the hard thing. After Week 1 you just have to keep going on!
  2. I took N2 in June 2010 at the height of my Japanese skills after I spend a whole year at a uni in Tokyo (plus Japanese Studies is my second major). I don't know either N5 or N4, but I heard people, who studied Japanese for 4 semesters should pass it without problems. However that probably only applies to the language courses for majors....
  3. Good to see, that Week 2 is starting better, than Week 1 was ending (even though the whole week was a success in my eyes)!
  4. Matschke78, bluekiwi1, Sylphrena, thank you for encouragements! That sounds interesting, I'll try that out this week. Thanks for the suggestion.
  5. Go for the JLPT! It boosted my motivation enormously a couple of years ago. And N5 should be totally doable till December if you do it regularly from now on.
  6. Good thinking, adjusting your routine to your abilities. Don't worry about the advanced bodyweight workout, you will get there!
  7. Sound interesting. Something along the lines of the big-fish-little-pond-effect? And math is perfectly suited for motivation research, I think. PS: Well done on your goals for the last three days!
  8. End of the Week Report (Week 1) Goal 1: Fasted wednesday and saturday (starting the night before) for 24 h. That's an A for this week, wooohoo! Goal 2: All meals eaten this week were paleo, except one: I went to a wine festival saturday night with my friends and ate a cinnamon-sugar-butter Crêpe from a booth there. That makes 95% paleo, which again equals an A for this week, yay! Goal 3: Did my exercise 4 times this week as planned, even threw in some karate practice and stretching. So, that was a success, too, although I can't really grade it, because my grading system for this goal is only applicable after the challenge. So, I'll do pass/fail for the weekly evaluation instead: definitely Pass! Side Quest: On to the bad news! "Setzen, sechs!" Which means an F. Qualitative speaking, I did make some progress this week. But it was the found-money-on-the-street-kind of progress, not the result of hard work. Quantitatively I did barely manage to reach the amount of time I wanted to on one day, let alone one week. Granted, I had other things on my mind (finding a new job, because the old one isn't really supporting me anymore) and I had to find some place where the summer heat can't reach me, but where I still have electricity and wlan, so under the next bridge or into the water wasn't an option.... Plans for Week 2 -continue with goals 1-3 -make a detailed thesis work plan / to-do-list for this week and follow it every day
  9. I did 24 h, the first one was hard towards the end, but the second not so much. I could even go to the grocery store at the end of the fasting without any impulse buying!
  10. Well done! Don't worry about too much the other two, tackle them today!
  11. I don't think you can overeat cucumbers, or else I've been doing it for weeks now.... Salad, watercress, spinach, radishes, cauliflower etc. are good choices for stress eating as well in my opinion, since it is hard to eat too much of it, because of their volume. But most importantly, don't berate yourself too much, you had a great third day!
  12. Well done, I haven't been driving for years. I don't need to, where Iive. But everytime I'm in the countryside at my parents, I'm kind of trying to avoid driving. Why can't we just teleport...
  13. Initially I wanted to give an update once a week, but that seems so long now. Since I find everyday still too much, I'll settle for twice a week. Midweek Report (Week 1) Goal 1: Accomplished. Although it was a lot harder to fast on a day I didn't work. Not enough things to keep my mind wandering to food.... Goal 2: 100% Paleo those three days. Good start, but I've done that before, so just keep going. I was proud though, that I stayed strong for wednesday dinner. Not only was it the first meal after the 24h fast, so my craving was definitely enhanced, but I ate with friends at our bi-weekly pub quiz and even though they were eating pizza and ice cream around me I had a big salad plate with grilled feta cheese (and it was completely as delicious as the pizza would've been!). Also, I talked with my boyfriend about the challenge and he accepted to support me (as long as he doesn't have to quit pasta) although he kept asking "Do you eat this? Do you eat that?". But that'll pass, I hope. Goal 3: Worked out twice and after I had a set goal, I could actually do more than before. Already did enough push-ups and dips for a D. Pull-Ups are harder, though. Definitely room for improvement.... Side Quest: Definitely the worst of all. Only worked three hours in three days instead of the planned 12..... But I did have a few nice chats with other grad students in my department yesterday, which hopefully boost my motivation fro now on.
  14. Considering that I have a reputation to eat things for breakfast other people consider lunch or dinner, that's probably how it's gonna be. :-D It's about political attitudes in mass public, specifically all attitudes towards europe, european integration, the EU etc. I try to explain differences in those attitudes between people using a new theory about general political ideologies like pacifism, nationalism and others.
  15. It took me 9 months to get to the final version of my MA thesis proposal. Sometimes life just gets in your way, the important thing is not to give up!
  16. Keep going, and let the zombies eat that negative voice in your head while you run away!
  17. Thumbs up for Alanna the lioness! And a good role model for the challenge, too, I think!
  18. Like the "pull off a spartan" motivation.
  19. I can totally relate to your problems and goals. I've been also in a swimming club throughout my teenage years and stopped when I started college six years ago. Maybe I incorporate a swimming goal in my next challenge (look at me planing the next one, when the first one started only a couple of hours ago XD), so I'm eager to know how you did with this program!
  20. Nice missions! I'm also up for full-time paleo in this challenge, good luck to both of us.
  21. I always admire a lady who wants to be stronger and isn't afraid of heavy weights. There aren't enough of you, so don't give up!
