  1. Sorry you're having such a hard time with everything Spoonymog. Hang in there! Just wanted to do a two week check in. This week went well for me! On top of all of my regular workouts I completed a mud hero 6k race today! The hills were insane but in the end I finished in an hour and 40 minutes. Yay Hope everyone is doing well.
  2. That is great news! Diabetes can be dealt with but cancer can be a lot scarier. On the bright side, you can look at this as even more motivation for living a healthy life.
  3. I'm still hanging in too. Week 1 was a success, even with my boyfriends birthday (and all of the eating events that tend to go with birthdays). Worked out 4 times last week and my day off from my eating plan went alright. It ended up being a bit extended but I'm ok with that. Friday night was a meal out with some visiting relatives so I planned to do that meal and then breakfast the next morning. But when I got my breakfast I got full pretty quickly so rather than stuff myself I decided to have the rest for supper. I'm still going to consider it a success because before I would have finished off that whole breakfast easily! I'm glad to see everyone is doing so well!
  4. Hey Blooms, Don't beat yourself up about not going to the gym, you can still get a great workout in at home! As far as your hips and stuff if you do have access to a pool you could go do some stuff in there instead of the walking. Won't be any impact so it wouldn't bother your joints. But that's just if you want to try something other than the bike. Guys! I'm so proud of myself! Tonight I jogged for 20 minutes straight! I am so happy with the progress I've made.
  5. That's awesome! Way to go. Can't imagine how good that must feel.
  6. Agh I feel your pain spoonymog. I've had so much trouble with heel blisters, even from walking. I got a new pair of shoes a couple of years ago and a week or so later went for a long walk and I ended up with such bad blisters that my shoes had some blood on the heel cushion area. Needless to say, I was horrified. Try the moleskin! You can also try lacing your shoes like this http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm I know you said that you don't want to have to buy a new pair of shoes but if it comes down to constantly having blisters and never wanting to go out and do anything then you might want to think about it. The new shoes I bought haven't blistered my feet once. It definitely made a difference in not dreading workouts. Good luck with the other stuff first though. Maybe this was just a freak occurrence with bad sock rubbing or something.
  7. I second bringing it up with the company. Even if you don't get something free out of it, if its a product you loved I think it's worth telling them when the quality is lacking. But I will also second trying special effects! When I dyed my hair my amazing hair dresser friend made me get special effects dye. Great stuff.
  8. I'm doing the same program! Definitely a good one. Are you training outside or on a treadmill? I started on a treadmill but moved outside and the adjustment was hard but I feel like I'm making better progress now. But maybe I'm just better now in general. Update for me: my back was really sore today and it was making my head feel all woozy and today is my weights day. But instead of bailing on weights completely I just modified it and did my workout at home with some bands and a kettlebell. I'm pretty sure you still have to go to work in the seam if your back is tight! Also I signed up on the Facebook page, I'm Shawna Ohlmann.
  9. Great work everyone! We are building good momentum. Today was good for me. Went for my run. Did 4.8 km in 46 minutes which included a 15 minute jogging interval! After I got over the initial hump of feeling like jogging was the worst decision of my life and hating every minute of it I've gotten consistently better at a pace that's really surprising!
  10. That is amazing! I was always the last person to finish those school runs too, so I can imagine how incredible it must feel to turn that around.
  11. Hello fellow rebels. I signed up to be part of District 12, hope that's ok! I'm pretty new to NF and this is my first challenge. I'm pretty excited! Currently I'm training to not be so wheezy during my first run, a 6k mud hero (in 2 weeks, EEK)! 3 weeks ago I felt like I was going to die jogging for 3 minute intervals and now I've worked up to 10 minute intervals! Sucking at something is the first step to being sort of good at something. I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of my fellow District 12 people so we can keep each other inspired and motivated!
  12. Those tea houses sound super cool! I instantly thought of Spirited Away, if you've seen that movie.
  13. Main Quest Lose fat. Get phat. I have way too much body fat. It isn't good for my health and I don't look as good as I know I could. Since main quests can span a few challenges I want to feel comfortable on the beach when I go for my friend's wedding in May. Maybe even get a little crazy and wear a bikini! 3 Goals The name of this game is consistency. I really want to lay down good habits. 1. At least 4 times per week I want to engage in physical activity. This includes a combination of lifting weights to maintain strength while I lose fat and also some running or long walks. 2. Limit unhealthy foods. Two meals per week are allowable off of my regular eating. These are not free for alls. Acts as a way of knowing that if I really want something I can have it, without feeling like I've screwed everything up and I might as well now eat an entire box of oreos. 3. Do not step on a scale unless I'm meeting up with my trainer to reassess how I'm doing. I get discouraged if I step on a scale and it hasn't moved or I haven't lost as much as I thought I would have. This is also why I haven't set any number goals. I don't want to get discouraged if I don't reach some arbitrary goal that I set out for myself. Life Quest Look for a job! I recently graduated university. (Woop!) I've had a research assistant position for the summer but its time to soon find a real job. At least once a week I will look for job postings and by the end of the challenge I will have sent in at least one application. So this is it! In 6 weeks I'll be a healthier person than I am today!
  14. Don't really have anything to say except... This is amazing! Carry on brave warrior!
  15. Maybe my experience with this is a little different since I had a lot of depression/social anxiety type negative self thoughts ("omg that person is totally laughing about how stupid I just sounded" etc) but I found that meditation really helped. I found just sitting and not thinking about and just watching the thoughts that would pop into my mind was really telling. I would be all alone and I would still have weird negative self talk. So being able to recognize those thoughts and also being able to recognize that they came completely out of no where helped. I found that recognizing that I would have them even without anything going on meant that all of that was just made up in my mind and not based in reality AT ALL. And in some way I knew that before but actually watching the whole process of negative self talk from start to finish really cemented it in my mind. That then allowed me to transfer that skill of recognizing completely irrationally negative self talk to using it on the fly and just letting it go. Hope that made sense.
