  1. Great topic to post! Having a torn Labrum ( its a fibrocartilagenous rim that exists to help keep the shoulder stable in the socket ) I know this feeling very well! Now being given the option to undergo a serious shoulder re-construction which would have me out of action for 6-12 months was a very depressing piece of news to take in, and it hit me alright.. My training came to a screaming halt, my diet got chucked out the window, and i got lazy, quick... Some time past like this, these were not good times. After finally accepting that i was now limited in what i could achieve rehab began for me, this is what I had to do to keep myself from getting really down in the dumps, sucessfully for me it worked! Now i havent been seriously training for a while and im just getting back into it, but taking that time to heal, FOCUS ON MY DIET, and recover was the pathway to getting back in the game. I just did my first serious workout last night and although i can feel a little bit of a niggle in that bogus shoulder, i feel great for being able to achieve it! You can recover from injuries, just make sure you give it time and respect your body along the way.
  2. That sounds like a great place to start, replacing just a few items in your pantry with something that is more of a healthy counterpart will not only make your transition begin, but also leave you feeling better about it as you improve. The 1st step is done, you joined the rebellion and it sounds like your ready to begin! Good luck!
  3. This is kind of where my head is at also, I'll get my hands on both pea and hemp and see how my body reacts and the changes that will ensue. Thanks for the input.
  4. Great job on the Aussie thread Tobias, let's get more of us on here to show themselves! I'm just fresh meat here at nerd fitness but I know I'll be sticking around for a while. I'm living up near Byron Bay in northern NSW currently and studying @ SCU full time. Have to say that I like my running also, participated in the GC 10k the weekend before last and it felt great. Setting up for the bridge to Brisbane run next which is on the 1st of September. I would like to but on a bit more size though so I have scaled back my running a touch so I'm not doing too much cardio as it seems to be counterproductive with my current goal. Also I am currently practicing in some one on one combat and weapon skills with a friend so that when the zombies attack, I'll be ready to mash some heads! Look forward to hearing from more Nerd Fitness! FOR THE REBELLION!
  5. Thanks Evli, I do not consume any dairy or eggs anymore, its only really the 1 beef steak or salmon fillet i have almost once each month that I consider myself a fleagan. Other than that I am doing it on a plant and grain based diet, potatoes are my buddies for sure.. I have looked at rice, pea and hemp proteins but cant decide which one would be the best. I am hearing so much about hemp protein being the most complete of the 3? Is there any experience out there i can draw any advice from??
  6. There is no need to rush the finish line just yet, just taking it one step at a time is the best way to lead you down that road to the Master plan! Great work on taking that first step, just keep them coming!
  7. I am just starting back into training and want to put some of my weight back on (the good muscular kind of course!). Being that i am a fleagan (flexible vegan) i have 95% based vegan diet but i dont seem to be able to put on any more weight. I have hit a plateo in my weight and am feeling a bit to under the weight i should be for my height. Im just looking for any advice on what fellow plant eaters are doing to pack on a bit more muscle without eating daily meat/fish combos?! Just plants and potatos and grains.. If you can hear me, help my Obi-wan-veganobi, your my only hope...
  8. My friends have coined the term "Fleagan" for me now as I eat a vegan diet 95% of the time. I dont beat myself up about it when i do have meat or fish products, although i used to.. I decided to switch to a prodominantly vegan diet at the begining of this year and i have to say that it has made a huge impact on my mood, motivation, feelings, skin texture and bank account. It all started when i became stranded at a friends house due to floods closing the roads and keeping me from returning home, which as bad as it sounds turned out to be a time for me to make the change! I have not looked back since and i continue to educate myself to the benifits and possibilities that living on a plant based diet can have on a person. I do supplement with vitB12 as i am not eating close to enough meat to get an adequate amount but besides that i get all of my essentials from my varied diet of plant based materials.
  9. Some fun facts about Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, even more so than flax seedChia seeds do not need to be ground to be absorbed by the body and they can be stored for long periods of time without going rancidThey help with hydration due to their ability to absorb up to 9-10 times their weight in waterChia seeds also contain fibre, protein, calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc among many other nutrients.Chia seeds like to get stuck in your teeth. You were warned.I'm a big fan of the chia fresca, but i also mix them in with green smoothies and occasionally pour them over my morning oats
  10. Salutations fellow rebels, First and formost I would like to give a big shout out to Nerd Fitness, HELL YEAH!! Having just discovered the rebellion and I would like to say that you can count on me to take the fight to the enemy when called to action, were guna beat those damn excess lipid sons of bithces down by any means, as long as its healty and Kicks Ass! My battle is similar to many other rebel fighters, its real easy to say just one more round of zombies and then I will go outside and get some fitness in, then before you know it the clock reads somthing like 2am and your time to shine has fizzled away. But not any more! I have already started to change my dietery habbits over the past few months and it is a stage by stage process, I can relate to that. My craving for junk food have subsided tremendously and instead of reaching for a candy bar now, I reach for a piece of fruit. I do go swimming a couple of times a week, but not for long enough and im wrecked after 20mins, so this is an area I need to devote more time and effort to and improve upon. As for strength training I have joined forces with some mates who are in a group called "Team Ten" (im sure this is not new by any means). Now the aim is to dish out push ups ( 10 to be exact ) to your fellow team ten members, when they least expect it. Sometimes it can be a bit embarrasing, other times its kinda funny, all in all that constitutes for alot of my chest pressing activity.. Also if i see a bar or something i can pull myself up on, more often than not I'll pull out a few chin ups. As i am currently a student completing a clinical science degree I have copious amounts of study which keeps my ass firmly planted in chairs and chair like devices the majority of the day which cant be helping the lack of fitness levels. I am see that I have enlisted into the rebellion the DAY that the 6 week challenge has ended, so the question then remains, WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE GOING TO BEGIN SPEZZY! On that note I am going to sign off, Peace out from Byron Bay...
