  1. Hey guys! A couple of guys from my unit (I'm in the TN ANG) and I are trying to get together a work out in Centennial Park on August 10, 2013 at 10 am. We're planning on doing circuit training. The Plan looks a little something like this: Two minutes at each station 15 minute group warm-up Station 1: Push Ups/ Squat Thrusts/Planks-to-side-plank Sprint to Station 2 (approximately .25 miles from Station 1) Station 2: Cross Knee Crunches/ Superman crunches (10 crunches with feet at varying heights)/boat-to-bow Sprint to Station 3 (approximately .25 miles from Station 2) Station 3: Lunges/ Squats/Skater-Squats Sprint to back to 1 (approximately .25 miles from Station 3) 1 mile jog Cool down There are ways to modify each work out to your level, so there's something for everyone. We're hoping to have breakfast ready for us afterwards (eggs, bacon, ham, OJ). If you're interested, let me know! Hope to see you there!
  2. HOO RAH! Get it, man! When you get there, upload your videos! I wanna see that craziness from a rebel!
  3. I'm in Nashville about ten minutes or so from the airport
  4. My understanding of ketosis is that it can be quite dangerous long term, most often leading to kidney failure. The kidneys fail because they aren't able to dilute the excess protein quickly enough. Now, I'm not saying that kidney failure happens immediately- it tends to happen after repeated states of ketosis. But it is something to consider. I think I read an article about a guy who was doing P90X (which is heavy heavy on protein and super light on carbs) who was sent to the hospital with kidney failure/ketosis. I got my info on ketosis from webmd.com
  5. I'm starting with the Zombie Run in Nashville in September and getting a team together at work. I'm so psyched for it! After that it's the Secret City Half Marathon...which, to be honest, I'm kind of reconsidering. I'm wondering if doing a couple 5ks FIRST would be better than going from a 5K to a Half. :/ I don't know yet! LOL There is an obstacle course race here, called the ROC (Ridiculous Obstacle Course) which looks insanely fun, but I'm so not ready for that yet.
  6. I totally want to do a Spartan Race too, but I was thinking about starting with the Warrior Dash first. Kudos for wanting to keep up with him and thanks to him for serving!
  7. Allo! So, I've been following NF articles since November '12, but didn't really have the guts to approach the boards because when it comes to "nerdy" topics, I'm basically at your general total n00b level. My boyfriend is a total gamer/nerd and he has gotten me into Games of Thrones, had me play League of Legends, WoW, and the Walking Dead. I dig 'em, but my fave game so far is Assassin's Creed. I'm a history dork. I'm also a diet dork. I've studied most of the fad diets on my own, just for general knowledge about them. When I say "diet" I don't mean, "Oh I'll do this for six weeks and everything will be perfect," I'm talking life-long, life-altering habits like vegetarianism, veganism, and Paleo. I admit Paleo is still new to me and I haven't thrown myself into it yet (because I like beans...like, a lot) but I dig the veg thing. I know, I know, but what about protein?! Trust me, it's something I considered daily. I'm not saying I am completely veg right now, I just know quite a bit about it. I've done it, it worked for about two years and then I went off to Basic Military Training and I knew my body needed the extra calories and protein from meat. So having said that, I will say that I didn't try vegetarianism based on ethics. Kudos to those that do, but I did it solely because I wanted to see how my body responded to that kind of a diet. It responded well but it's been awhile since I've been full on veg. At the moment, I focus on three squares and I'm getting back into running and body weight stuff. I'm still military, but with the job that I do, it's kinda easy to become a bit squishy. SO, my goals are as follows! 1.5 miles in 12:30 30 push ups in 60 seconds 50 sit ups in 60 seconds Give away 15 pounds (not lose, because I don't want to find them again;)) Haha, total PT test standards because I have one coming up in October/November. I would be super happy if that run was a minute less and I added 30 push ups to that goal, but slow and steady wins the race. I'm not interested in killing myself. Happy to meet everyone!
