  1. I tried to e cigs to quit, but to me they weren't the real thing. They ended up making me want to smoke more. Cold turkey with plenty of distractions works best for me. But I do know people who used the vapes and gradually stepped down to zero nicotine. I think you'd have to try it yourself and see if it would work for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Many days later, but I managed one circuit of the beginner body weight workout from this site. Slow and steady right now so I don't hurt myself again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks for the resources! I'm excited to start, but currently drained of all energy due to the meds I'm on. I'll check out some of these tomorrow and hopefully get something, anything, started tomorrow.
  4. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Due to my on and off back problems (mostly on right now) lifting has started to become a real struggle. I can't keep putting stress on my spine right now. I can't keep beating myself up because I'm not lifting, and I absolutely can't continue to do nothing! I think that body weight training is going to be the way to go, at least for now. I can't wait to dig into these forums and get started! My main focus is to keep my body strong, especially the back and ab muscles, to help my back issues. I doubt they'll ever go away and I'm a little sad that the lifting is aggravating it so badly, but I'm also excited to try something new! So I am joining in and I'm ready to learn how to use my own body to get stronger and healthier.
  6. Garden level complete! Back row is Brussels sprouts. Then hot pepper, 2 tomato plants (one is yellow!), then yellow bell pepper. I have seeds in for 2 cauliflower, 2 broccoli, and 2 squares full of carrots. Two are empty for the beet seeds I apparently forgot to get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  7. It is rough! I feel like I am always busy. Luckily I am a resource teacher this year, so I have less paper work responsibilities. However, I have four kids of my own. They are all in after school clubs, so by the time we get home, eat dinner, do homework, it can be a late workout. I hardly ever watch TV, it fell way to the back of the line. Do you have planning time every day? Last year I had so many meeting that there were weeks I only had planning once a week. I started getting to school early to get things done. I still do this. I try to be there by 7am and we start at 7:30. I also have a lot of time after school. Since my kids are in clubs and at the same school (2 of them) I stay there until they are done and do work. I also plan my workout week around the days I know I can get out of there the fastest, and save one for the weekend.
  8. Cleaned up a bit, added some new missions (even my super secret one I don't usually talk about), and made it look nicer (I think). I added a bonus mission category for those things that life throws my way and I say "Hell Yeah!" to, no matter how scary it seemed at first (Camp). I also made camp count as 100% of my exp because it was so amazingly far out of my comfort zone, yet it was so worth it!
  9. I did not lol. Wish I had thought of that while I was there.
  10. I came so close to squatting my body weight. The only problem was, my body weight went up!! I was 135lbs, but by the time I squatted 140, I was up to 146lbs. So close!
  11. Here's a few things my (now former) chiropractor told me yesterday. The barbell is antiquated, use machines. You can lift twice the weight with no stress on you body with machines. If I must lift, do curls, but don't lift the dumbells from the floor. Lift from a table. Deadlifts are bad for your back. Do not deadlift. At best I'll be injured, at worst rupture a disc. He truly made it seem like lifting was awful. He even at one point made a bad smoking analogy that I did not get and told me to Google injuries from lifting to see how bad I could get hurt. I am so glad I went in there already knowing better! In other news, this was my first major sciatica pain since I began lifting. I'm sure that's just a weird coincidence though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  12. I had a bag of small frozen shrimp in the freezer today and the kids were dying for a snack. A quick google got me an awesome paleo shrimp salad. It had eggs, onions, etc. I tweaked it with what I had on hand and even the pickiest one ate it up. I also made some awesome sweet potato chips. Cut real thin. Bake at 250 for an hour, flip and bake another hour. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  13. Most days I have one square of really dark chocolate. Sometimes I have a protein shake or bar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  14. I'm not sure yet because the growing season is different in Florida. But I have a book lol. I'm hoping for tomatoes, broccoli, beets, carrots, basically all my favorites.
  15. I need to edit this! Also, I decided why wait to buy a house to have a garden. We made a garden box and I'm planning to plant a few things this weekend!
  16. You all make some really good points! From a common sense point of view, it does seem weird to question it even. Thanks everyone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  17. Thanks! I'm going to let her "lift" with me tonight and see if she is ready. I'll show her form and see if she can handle the bar. I definitely don't want to discourage her or tell her she can't do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  18. How young is too young to lift? My 9 year old daughter has been begging to lift with me. She does Steve's beginner body weight workout now, and can complete 3 circuits. I worry that she is too young, though. What is a good age for lifting?
  19. I've never dragged against my shins either. I thought maybe it was because I'm so short lol. I will be looking into this now though! I learn so much here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  20. Thanks all! I really didn't want to push it and end up with bronchitis or something this year. It's really hard to find any rest the first few weeks of school (teaching and having four kids lol), so the rest was well needed. I lifted twice this week and it went pretty well. I think I'll be back on track this coming week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Excuse any short replies, please.
  21. Last week my arm was really bothering my, but I powered through a PR of 105lbs on bench press then decided to rest it for a few days. By they time it felt better, I had a good cold going. It always happens the first few weeks of school. One of the hazards of being an elementary teacher. (But I take it, because I get a lot of hugs!) So, then I felt better again, lifted for one day (missed a few reps, but not bad), then got sick again. So here I sit, trying to let my body rest. But I am so damn bored!!! "Luckily" it's a three day weekend for me to rest up and try not to get bronchitis (so far I've gotten it at the beginning of every school year). How do you cope when you have to rest!? I can see my beautiful weight set from here, and I want to weep
