  1. I feel pretty good. Losing about 1k a week: I've tried to avoid running: it takes too long and it's a bit boring. And i chafes. Oh how it chafes. Weights, swimming, jump rope and walking.
  2. Tom Baker is a god to me. I did a voiceover with him once, and asked him to sign my copy of his book "The Boy Who Kicked Pigs" for my son Max (who was only a toddler at the time). He wrote "to Max, best wishes from the grave, Tom Baker'. genius
  3. What kind of workout do you do? I'm still pretty newbie-ish with the bodyweight stuff, would like to get into weights at some point in the future (hard style kettlebells? olympic weightlifting?) but at the moment my own puny weight is plenty more than I can successfully manage, thank you very much... *sigh* There's lots of room for improvement here before I take on even bigger challenges! I'm doing the rookie nerd fitness workout, which is pretty good. Worth the punt for the downloads: its nice to have a routine to follow. Ive got a set of dumbells, but i'm on like 5kg, because my arms are so weedy. by christmas I WILL have done a pull-up i looked at a local gym membership, and worked out I could basically buy all the kit for the cost of two months membership. SO I got a second-hand bench and the dumbells and a resistance band and that's all i need. And a jump rope. I totally get you on the weights. I used to do a lot of running when i was younger, so the cardio is o, but i've never really done any weights. the youtube channel really helps with the "how do you do it" part.
  4. I so badly want him to be a sweary Malcolm Tucker Doctor.
  5. I spent most of last week in pain too. still, what is it they say, pain is just weakness leaving the body? Don't know who they are, but they're clearly assholes I bought a knee brace, as I've got a dodgy knee too, but rather than running last week, I went swimming on my first off-day, which was great, exercise, but no pressure on my aching muscles: still did the stretches too, they really help: skip them at thy peril. And surprisingly? The jump-rope is great for my knees as I just do wee jumps. In a eek I've gone from being able to do 2 in a row effort tripping, to 56 (my new record). Also jump rope is cheap, you can do it barefoot: so no motivation-sapping "you mean i have to tie BOTH shoelaces AFTER puttin the shoes on?" and you don't even have to leave the house...
  6. Oh and sonilyj, added you as a friend: I'll read your posts for sure. Get by with a little help form our friends, as the Fab Four would have it
  7. Hey Swampling, Sonliyj, when I say Excercise every day, I meant according to the Reble Fitness guide nOOb workout So I'm doing excercises a and b three times a week turn about, 30 mins cardio (either swimming, running or jump rope) every day inbetween, taking one day off at the weekend and doing "fun excercise" on the other (walked he dog oner the island where i live, which was great as it was lovely weather) Actually, Saturday without exercise was pretty hard, felt relly antsy, but it rained all day, so even taking the dog out for a walk was difficult. As for cheering up, well, i'm a creative by trade so prone to introspection. And having put on weight over the past 10-15 years (i used to be pretty skinny) it gets me down on occasion. I vowed this year I would take responsibility for my own life and career. Ive found the excercise both cheers me up and gives me a bit of headspace not to think I've suffered from depression in the past, I'm finding that the excercise is helping keep me on an even keel Been dieting too, trying to keep under my 1600or so calories a day. Not going full paleo (like my porage to much, and my western european fermented-grain driking heritage) and love a bit of dairy (but not too much). regulating my drinking is probably the easiest thing, which is a surprise! No booze during the week, and try and avoid beer. I had one yesterday after walking the dog in the boiling heat: it was about the closest thing to heaven ever, but just one Ive not had a hangover in 3 weeks which is a pretty amazing feeling. Doing pretty well after a week! Still working on my life quest. Thinking Learn to Surf would be a good one
  8. Hah, you sound pretty much exactly like me: what is the DEAL with all the food in offices? I hobbled into to the office today, and there was cake at 10:30. Bastards. I was exceedingly wobbly after my work out this morning, but felt surprisingly good (despite the pain). Just as well i've got a rooftop as I was NOT a pretty sight. Good to know i'm not the only one
  9. I'm overweight and pretty unfit. I have a bad back from time to time, that has come from 15 years spent sitting down in front of a mac, and generally being a beer-drinking lardass. My dad died of a heart attack last month, which is one hell of a wake up call to get healthy. Time for a change: I've been on a diet for 5 weeks and lost a kilo a week (two lbs to you colonials . But as the new six week challenge was starting the week after I got my Nerd Fitness pack, I though I might as well sign the hell up. 1) Do the rookie nerd workout as it is in the book. Have done it twice, seems good: this week i'm doing it properly, and for the next 6 weeks. Excercise EVERY DAY, no excuses. 2) Stick mostly to my 1600 calorie limit. Eat as healthy as I can, drink only at the weekends, and inside my diet limit (mostly, or if i do go over, work it off) 3) Cheer the fuck up: my dad's passing has put a lot into perspective. I'm prone to depression, but life's not so bad if you're still alive. Think less, worry less, DO more. Keep at the excercise, lose weight. Get into a habit. Stop being so miserable. That is all.
