  1. OK WAIT SERIOUS TIME WITH STATS AND STUFF Today is- week one day 4? Yes. Good. I just got home from a twelve hour workday (NONONONONONONO) and I have a few things bouncing around in my head. One, I think I may have a right-foot heel injury - I got my heel wedged in a door a while back, and I'm wondering if there was some deeper damage than I realized, because the damn thing is starting to hurt more and more. What do you even do about that? Am I about to go on Zocdoc and find a podiatrist? Two, I really need to work on detaching from stuff that happens at work with angry or upset guests - if someone has a bad experience I'm the one who has to go in and listen and make it right, but I can't afford to take things personally. Today was a dark day, calorically speaking. After my korean bbq and fancy beverage I had curry and fried bananas with ice cream for lunch/dinner, and then when I got home I was STARVING and I had three eggs on two pieces of toast and about the top half inch of a pint of ice cream. Without worrying at this point about caloric intake, I can already see from the food tracking that I get HUNGRY and I burn a lot of fuel at my work, and the fact that I can't snack between meals (unlike my laast restaurant job) and that as a Boss Person I have a little more control over when I eat, which is good. Eating food at work definitely is danger zone - it's free, it's high-salt-high-calorie, it's basically unlimited, and it happens usually right before or in the midst of a long stretch of foodless high-stress high-activity time. I often feel I've "earned" a twelve hundred calorie plate of fried chicken with rice and sauce, and that's definitely something to address. I also do like my liquid calories at work - fresh pressed juices and fancy sodas :/ I've also been buying a lot of food this week - part of the logistics of my life these days is that I spend a significant amount of my time at the home of my Significant Other, and while we do cook together we also do sometimes indulge in fancy purchased foods delivered to the home, something I NEVER have done on my own since moving into my new apartment last year. Plus when I'm coming from his place to work in the morning or afternoon, I buy food on the way to work, and this new situation also means that I don't cook at home as much as I'm accustomed to or would prefer. I do use SOYLENT, THE MIRACLE PANCAKE BATTER FUTURE BEVERAGE as a way to eat well while spinning between work, home, and B's home, but when you are living out of a duffel bag every pound counts, and five 14-oz bottles of liquid count for a hell of a lot. At least I happen to like the flavor! Oh also - I have neglected to mention so far that I am about a third of the way through the Artist's Way as of the beginning of this challenge! Oh no I am SECRETLY OVERLOADING MYSELF WITH SECRET TASKS? Mmm, maybe. I spent the last month getting into the groove of doing the three daily pages of stream of consciousness writing that are the basis of the program, so I feel pretty secure in that. But today starts my week 5, and I'm very excited because this week is all about dreaming big, gathering up possibilities and wishes and impulses and desires and goals and fantasies and saying, oh, hey, WHAT IF I ACTUALLY MADE THAT HAPPEN? It's a scary thing to think about, but I think this is the right time for it! And finally, inspired by Tank's tastiness-themed challenge, I have volunteered to bring a vegan pumpkin curry to a friend's birthday party on Sunday. Coooking experiment results to come!
  2. I think it's super cool that you have breathing study as a part of your practice - breath is super key to just about everything! Maybe I should do a breathing focused challenge. A new breath-related discipline? OH NO HERE WE GO-
  3. @_@ going to bed at 11:30 pm? THE MIND BOGGLES. HOW EVEN DO THAT. HOW NOT DO ALL THE INTERESTING FUN THINGS INSTEAD OR MAYBE JUST FACEBOOK
  4. SECOND! TAG YOU'RE IT! Hooray for Big Show! And hooray for simple challenges - it's so easy to be lured in by the promises of SPREADSHEETS and POINTS SYSTEMS and TIERED PLANS and all that jazz, but when you get right down to it this is the heart of the practice also HELLO HELLO HELLO!
  5. DUDE THAT IS NEXT LEVEL Seriously, the power and grace to encounter a seriously upsetting situation or person and be able to handle yourself well, remove yourself, and process the experience in a healthy way is a straight up SUPERPOWER. Also I have only ever been to Dairy Queen once I had no idea it was like...a thing? I think this may be sort of regional, as I never saw one until I moved to New York.
  6. yes hi I am verreh sneaky sneaking into your FANCY RANGER PARTY
  7. Oh my god this is taking me right back to my days of sitting on the couch with my brother watching wrestling! Bravo! Domestic rangering always staggers me in how quickly your quality of life improves when, for example, you wake up and there are no dirty dishes in the sink. Nice going, D_R!
  8. OH HAAAAAIIII THERE MR. SHOW! *happy dance happy dance happy dance!*
  9. Haha, I will do extra special deadlifts just for you this week Tank later today I'm gonna post food and spending for the week so far, but as of this moment I am sitting smack dab in the middle of the DANGER ZONE, aka the special food event next to my work. It is a hyper magical food court with booze. And Raclette, and korean bbq, and wood oven pizza and poké and arepas and paella and giant ice cream sandwiches and fancy slushies and SUSHI-RITTOS and lobster and like ten kinds of dumplings and aaaah it is here every day and I always resist, but today? Spicy korean pork bowl and a raspberry rose lemonade. SO. GOOD. It feels weird to not have specific restrictions on my diet, just logging everything, but here we are!
  10. Yes yes! Incremental work is the work that sticks! And good on you for doing it even through the black fog of NOT WANTING TO
  11. Nice! Driving without a license is not the best- I'm glad you got the card sorted out!
  12. Oh man just seeing this now- saving a copy on my phone to try cooking for my Significant Other later this week. Do you think this woud hold up with Broccoli?
  13. Hi Rurik! Also, I too have experienced this nauseous tea nonsense, and so has my mom- maybe it's a tannin thing?
  14. Why thank you! I think I have- it kind of snuck up on me, but last I remember I was striving to get below 150, and here I am hovering around 145? Oh I sm sooo excited for it. Plus, once its funded I can start pouring all that money into BIG SAVINGS! Why thank you! I tried to post a less sweaty picture but it did not work I suppose I am on a break, though hopefully not for long! I actually hae no idea how long it will take me to shave a minute and a half off my mile, and with the pushups- hmm i dont know, I do tend to gain strength very slowly...
  15. NYMERIA! HELLO! so, to answer the big questio, no I have not been doing parkour lately- for the past year my variable schedule has made it rather difficult to commit to a regular class, or any kind of habit or schedule for that matter, and so I have fallen, gracelessly, off the parkour wagon. But, I really want to find a way to get back, especially since I have a wonderful nerdy parkour community in Gotham that I miss very much. So what HAVE I been doing? Well, being extremely active in normal life, for one. Nothing like forty five to fifty hours a week being on your feet and going up and down stairs at work, plus another four hour's walking every week as part of your commute, to really put an edge on your metabolism. I've also had an on and off workout schedule, mainly bodyweight and yoga up until the beginning of this summer when I...to my deep emotional conflict...joined a commercial gym. Since then I've been struggling to go twice a week, and do my workout partially designed off of stronglifts 5X5. Here's what I did yesterday: Mobility warmup: joint roll out, leg swings, spine bends and twists, focus on ankles and wrists bodyweight warmup: 3X20 squats, 3X20 lunges squats: bar 1X5, 20lb 5X5 dumbbell row: 20lb, 5X5 each side pushups: hands on weight bench. 3X7, stopping only due to flare up of work-related wrist injury dips: ON THE STUPID MACHINE. Setting 10,3X5 pullups: using the smith machine as an adjustable bar for pullup training. Fifth notch, feet four paces out from the bar, 2X5, 1X4, 2X3 Mile run: 10:31 aaaand that's part one! Part two is the same but with deadlifts and overhead presses instead of rows and bench (which i did not do this week due to my wrist). I like the gym because I can fit it in whenever I need to, and it's right across the street from my work, and they have tools and weights and showers and stuff, but part of me flinches at the idea of being dependent on equipment that I can't carry in a backpack. I intend to continue on this route until my contract is up, sometime next spring, so until then...eh? Pushups I want to focus on for next challenge as a daily thing- like I said I have a repetitive stress injury in my left wrist from carrying trays at work, but in two weeks or so it should be rested up enough to take my weight i can probably do one, maybe two strict form pushups, so that's something to start from! A FINAL NOTE ON FOOD: I eat for free at my restaurant. This means that for 5 or 6 meals out of the week I am having a high-calorie plate of curry or noodles or ramen, and often a side dish as well, gyoza or calamari or pork buns. I would eventually like to change my eating habits at work, since I think that is one of my biggest caloric expenses. And so salty
