  1. Looks like you were having fun.
  2. Interesting data, certainly. Pretty much everything is more complicated than we think it is.
  3. Did a bit better with the exercise today. Still have work to do on the diet. 5 sets: 20 jumping jacks 6-7 partial chin-ups - Not sure why the sudden boost here, but it's nice 20 squats 10 push-ups, most going down far enough to touch my nose to the ground 20 sit-ups 3 partial chin-ups Still working on remembering to do random full chin-ups during the day.
  4. Mine's on the door of my bedroom. Walk by it 10 times a day. I just keep forgetting it's not part of the background.
  5. Exercised last night. 5 sets: 20 x jumping jacks 5 x partial chin-ups. Two full chin-ups were there, but mostly it was partials. I was not able to do two full ones in a row. 20 x squats 10 x push-ups 20 x sit-ups 2.5-3 x partial pull-ups That's pretty much where I was last fall. I think I'll stay at this level for a bit until I can do it solidly, then try to push farther in a couple weeks. I am going to try to do occasional full chin-ups during the day, but I have to find a way to remember it.
  6. Yup. I can easily walk under it as is. I don't bother moving it around any more.
  7. Yeah, I can do that. I used to do it periodically last fall.
  8. More exercise today. 5 sets: 20 jumping jacks 5 partial chin-ups (the first one of the first set was a full one, but that was the only one) 20 squats 9 push-ups 15 sit-ups 3 partial pull-ups Incremental improvements. The single full chin-up went pretty well, I just couldn't pull off any on the other sets. Will keep working on it. I also managed to eat less sugar today, which is an improvement. I'll keep working on that, too.
  9. If we can get together sometime, I have some ideas for helping with that, though getting time to hang out is a problem at the moment.
  10. That sounds pretty cool.
  11. Yeah, diet is the hardest thing for me to stick to right now.
  12. Better. Almost back to what I was doing last fall. Maybe by the next one I'll be able to actually push ahead.
  13. Hm, when I start, my upper arms are at a 45 degree angle upwards, and my lower arms are straight up to the bar. The bar is in a doorway and I'm standing just outside it. After the first one, I stay up in the air, usually moving down until my upper and lower arms are at a right angle, then back up again. Admittedly I often don't notice that, as I'm just trying to get moving back upward, but the few times I had the presence of mind to look, that's what was going on. I think the total fall/rise while hanging is about 8 inches, maybe. I think I'm back to the point where I can do single full chin-ups, then a set of 3-4 partials. I'll try that Tuesday. Saturday exercise: 5 sets: 20 jumping jacks 5 partial chin-ups 20 squats 8 push-ups 17 sit-ups 3 partial pull-ups Seems to be going okay so far. I'll try to keep up with posts here, but I can't promise anything.
  14. It's just age settling in, you old coot. It only gets worse. Other things get better, though.
  15. Exercised Tuesday and Thursday. Each day was roughly the same: 5 sets, each one containing, on average: 20 jumping jacks = 100 total, first set of 20 used as a warm-up 4 partial chin-ups (I'll be trying to add in full ones once I can regularly do 5 partials per set) = 20 total 20 squats = 100 total 6 push-ups = 30 total 15 sit-ups = 75 total 3 partial pull-ups = 15 total Still not back to where I was in the fall, but getting close. I'm aiming to start doing full chin-ups and pull-ups, and getting back up to 10 or so push-ups per set. Also did a bit more walking today, thanks to having to head to the hospital for a routine blood test, after which I got to eat for the first time since 6 the previous evening. Anyway, that's it for me so far. Will try to update again Sunday, my next scheduled workout night.
  16. Outdoors? The real outdoors, away from the city, airconditioning, water, and bathrooms? I don't think so.
  17. I think trying to dance in front of others might trigger that whole embarrassment thing. Curling with strangers in front of a crowd could do that, too, but might be okay. I'm less self-conscious about curling than dancing.
  18. 5 boxes of books is impressive.
  19. Swimming lessons are pretty cheap, I imagine. At least, compared to martial arts lessons. Shouldn't be too hard to find, come summer. If I ever have the money I will buy you a tiny pole for your tiny apartment. For me, I did like skating as a kid, though that was 30 years ago. I was a lot closer to the ground back then, so it hurt less when I fell. I would like to dance. No, I won't actually do it, but there is a part of me that would like to. It gets outvoted by the parts of me that hate to be embarrassed by my complete lack of coordination. Bowling and curling were both fun. They count as sports, right? No time for that for a couple years, though.
  20. Having a plan/schedule helps me a lot. Admittedly it can be a real problem for me if plans change without warning, but I'm trying to not get stressed when it happens.
  21. Swimming's okay. If I had a pool here I'd do that. I don't think they'd let me put one in the apartment, though. As for the other, I hear it's fun, but I'd honestly rather play a good tabletop game.
