  1. Everything's off the rails right now.

At this point I will be doing great if I can just get my eating under control by the end of this. Work has been stressful, family life has been demanding, and to top it off, we were robbed last week, so needless to say, my stress levels have been UP, and stress eating has made it back into my life. Like ALL the sweets. Like a junkie. I've managed to avoid sweets today, eating more than I'd like, but hoping to get the sweets back under control, because I can tell I've gotten past that level where they can control me, and it will take a few days to kick them again. I haven't felt this crappy in a long time *sigh*

  2. This week has been complete craziness with no spare time, and nothing foreseeable until next Monday, so I'm considering this week a "do my best" week, and nixing the basic and advanced for this month, there is one level, which is in between, to finish out the rest of the challenge.

    Eating

Sticking to a Mediterranean style of eating, sweets only on special occasions (son's b-day, and the times we go out as a family for a treat, no extraneous sweets or refined flour at other times).

Tracking: Log food into MFP minimum 5 days/week

    Exercise

Walking: 10k 3 days, 8k 6 days (this is Fitbit steps).

    Self Care

Posture stretching Foam Roller (adding the Uncaged Human squat exercises) 3x/week

Set aside “me” time 1hr min. 1x/week + 1 bonus time during the month.

    Household

Dining Room FULLY DECLUTTERED This should mostly be accomplished by this weekend, as we need that space for my son's party LOL.

And also clean and organize the kitchen. And FINALLY clean the mildew around the tub. It isn't nasty awful, but it has been neglected long enough.

Moving the Bonus quest to next month because I know it's not happening this month. Seriously. And I don't want to half ass it or over stress about it.

LOOT: A trip to David's Tea for tea and possibly paraphernalia :-)

    Looks good!  How's it going?

LOL well we start today, right? haha, this weekend was Pokémon Go community days, so I enjoyed my last days of off plan eating and also walked 12 MILES yesterday, so, I'm good.

So far today has been good, I plan to post later today to finalize/set my quests exactly how I want for this challenge. I'll have that in later today.

  4. I saw a listing for adult beginner ballet class in my city's parks & rec catalog, it lured me in with promises of "balance, flexibility, posture, and agility". I've never taken ballet before, but I thought "why not?", could be good. (not gonna lie, I do wonder if I'm going to be the least fit person in class....)

Anyone else do or have done ballet want to share your stories or encouragement? I hope I have a good experience, not sure what to expect!

  5. Just putting down my draft for more/detailed challenges.

Learning about posture and retraining the way your body sits/stands/moves was one of my favorite takeaways from Camp NerdFitness many moons ago.... if you're up for some reading I'd recommend looking up Kate Galliett and Jonathan Mead.  Posture and the way you sit and align yourself is fascinating stuff and SO worth the retraining effort it takes IMO!! :DDDD

Awesome, I looked at their pages, definitely going to check them out, thanks! (the Darebee site looks good too, thanks Stribs)

  7. I struggle with posture too, look into doing thoracic spine mobilization on a foam roller. Laying out with it along the length of your spine with your head also on the roller, arms out to your side dangling on the floor is a good one, and also rolling the across way, but take your time and let things stretch. It hurts but I think it will help with what you are doing.

The dumbbell stuff you're doing is great, I really need it too! Pulling motions especially.

Thanks for the reminder, I'm going to add posture stuff to my next challenge too!

Sorry about your back. Two books that have really helped me with my back (and other stuff) is Katy Bowman's Move Your DNA and Kelly Starrett's Deskbound. And walking is  what really helped me heal my back

Katy Bowman? I legit thought you were talking about Colony. This IS a nerd forum. LOL. :highly_amused:

Nice!  Mine are specific, but it is always SO MUCH.  Like I can't chill and hold myself to three things.

Tell you what, I'll add one, you take one away! I legit dropped mine down to 3 because I was struggling to even get close, and would give up because no way. I had a couple challenge periods where injury knocked out my plans, and having a full time job and 2 tiny kids made some of that "sweet dreams" LOL. I'm trying to get specific and focus because it helps me to have a plan I can stick to!

I am always in awe of people whose challenges are so precise and straight forward.  Maybe one day I can be you, ha.  Good luck!!

    Haha thanks!

Someone in one of the other boards kicked my butt into more specifics, and I like it. I can't just tell myself, well, close enough!

  11. Hey Rangers!

Loot: TBD, but completing the Weightlifting quest snags a bonus Tuff N Tiny "Squattle" Tank Top :)

  12. I'm happy you are finding time to swim. I used to swim regularly, and I miss it now.

Is Pokémon GO available on your phone where you live? I know it's in Europe, so I imagine you won't have trouble getting it working in France. I've picked it up after a couple years off and it's REALLY motivated me to walk. The difference is night and day! I feel so much better now than a few weeks ago when I started.

I'm limiting sugary treats as well, but I allow myself VERY DARK chocolate every day. It's only one or 2 squares, so it's not huge indulgence, but it always feels like a treat. The flavor is so intense you don't need much. I'm talking in the high 85-90+%. Supposedly dark chocolate is good for you too, so if you can replace heavier treats with this, I think it would be good.

And like Defining said, weight training is SO GOOD FOR YOU, building those muscles up so they do all the fat burning for you. I need to push myself to do more myself!

  13. I used to skate regularly at a beach path, but that was several years ago. I'd like to get into it again, but I'd have to find some proper skates for it (I have hockey skates, and cement would probably tear the wheels  up pretty good) and just MAKE TIME FOR IT. Easier said than done with the responsibilities of a family. But I'm glad I found this old thread to get me thinking about it. :)

  14. Been lying low since we had a scare with the pregnancy (so far baby's hanging on!) and priorities have changed a little. Taking it easy, but have renewed my healthy eating efforts.

Still doing pretty good with water, I haven't been measuring lately, but been drinking often. And of course, vitamins.

Did manage to get one of the quest 4 tasks done, clean the kitchen (finally!).

This all speaks to me so much!! Welcome to the Rangers first off :)

Secondly, congrats on the baby!! Woot woot! And I think it’s awesome your gonna wait till the baby is born to find out the gender. My wife and I did that for 2 our of 3 of our boys. It was really neat to have that surprise!

Thirdly, we’ll be step buddies!! I just don’t have a fit bit so I have to use my phone to track my steps. Either or, here to support and follow ;)

Eee, congratulations! First time or are you playing through on “expert mode”?

Thanks!!! hahaha expert mode for sure! Already got 2 that keep things busy. My boy is approaching 4 and my girl just turned 1 1/2. Just found out this week we're expecting, so probably late January. Gonna go "Team Green" this time and find out the sex at birth, I'm really excited about being surprised!

  17. overdid it in a heavy bag kickboxing class. Thought it was no big deal until it wasn't getting any better and I ended up diagnose with a TFCC tear. I was in the most awful splint for 6 weeks and right now, I'm babying it and going through therapy for it and it's finally improving. I'm hoping to be able to add a strength routine, but I see the doctor on Wednesday.

  18. I'm a few days late to this Challenge, so I'm going to go through June 27.

I would have been chugging along with the Monks or Warriors, but as luck would have it, I've been sidelined with a wrist injury. Can't do much punching or heavy lifting (not to mention how it gets in the way of the day to day). So what can ya do? I'm not a big walker (except funny enough I love doing 5 and 10ks!), but I gotta get off my tail and move! The Fitbit is a fun gadget and it reminds me to go hahaha!

The important task? Taking good care of myself and the new little human I'm growing! :-) (so hockey and martial arts are definitely taking a break!)

    QUESTS

    1. Processed food - out! Allow treat meals 2x a week.

    2. 1/2-1 gallon of water a day and my vitamins

    3. Exercise - Meet my goal of 8000 steps every day. Trying for 10000, but if I don't make it at least don't go to bed without 8k.

    4. Nestbuilding - 1 task per week, something that needs finishing /attention at home.

    LOOT

I've designed a sweet pair of shoes on the Vans website (I'll post the link a little later), going to order them when I finish the challenge.

I had another thing in mind too, but I can't remember at the moment.

    There. IT IS WRITTEN :-)

    Now I gotta do it!
